Some people were asking for more info on the J2K so I wrote out more of thoughts on it here, pickleballeffect.com/pickleball-effect-gear-forum/?wtp=post%2Fhonolulu-pickleball-company-j2k-review-13378091%3Ftrail%3D20%26fbclid%3DPAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAabdUOejw81Pns9smZYgqVHJvzLZ0BuZM-1VCEQ7YRyC1cLmsAc3pHWa2lg_aem_AYvJaxIM0fcPI_NBadXSeMqCSo6JLYoAf9K7zgMJ2Ax7UZKtihpXlapVE0p31jGFM43DkHefWQiZPeq1OK68DMHh.
I enjoyed the information in the podcast. Also, Kyle’s and your reviews of the paddles that you tried out. Good luck to Kyle and you in your upcoming tournament. Hopefully, we can see some of the footage of your matches and interactions with the other content creators.
Thanks for tuning in! I’ll recap the tournament in next week’s episode and will be posting stuff on my Instagram. I’m going to try and vlog the trip too so we’ll see how it goes ha.
Love Babolat stuff. Haven’t hit their paddles but their products are high quality. Have a Babolat Strike backpack that I use for PB. It’s a tennis bag but works well for PB. Spacious and lots of different pockets. Can easily fit 6 paddles, shoes, a dozen balls, extra apparel, paddle accessories, big water bottle, and a laptop. Plan to try their shoes next.
John Kew finally put more numbers out for the hurricane pro and was so cool to hear, it’s one that’s been mentioned but not a full review on it..! Since you love the VMF2 could you tell me how the hurricane pro stacks up to it please..! 🙏
In terms of controllability and resets, does the Apollo feel more like the M2F 16mm or the 14mm? Because I could control M2F 16mm very well, but 14mm was way too poppy for me.
Do you feel like the LH pays significantly different from the SH flash? I know handle length takes away from paddle face for me overheads are always an issue with short faced paddles
The Selkirk sponsored pros may not care about the spin degradation of paint grit because they get lots of free paddles but I can´t understand why most amateur players would pay so much for paddles with it. Selkirk needs to change quickly.
Been playing with the CHUCK, it's rock hard. Hoping it plays well in summer temps. Orange Dura's play different too. Lots of sponsorship changes. The face of the Proton is a PU paint that would get "sticky" when hot. Good input on the paddle universe. Wish more companies had the return policy like Bread & Butter, Hudef, etc. 30 day "NO QUESTIONS" "FULL REFUND" I'M reaching out to Thompson. Thanks Kyle.
Hey Braydon, Looking to upgrade from a Prism Flash 16mm. Paddles in consideration: Ruby, Apollo, Mach 2 Forza and DBD. Mach 2 Forza is on sale (20% plus your 10%) for $129 what do you recommend between that and the Apollo $117?
If you're looking for a boost in power and pop over your Prism Flash then the DBD or Ruby would be the way to go but if you want similar performance just packed in a more forgiving, widebody shape then the Apollo or Mach 2 would be the way to go. The Apollo comes in very light which some people like but it was little too light for me out of the box so I preferred it with some weight while the Mach 2 16 can be used out of the box just fine and doesn't have to have weight though it doesn't hurt. If you don't mind adding some weight then go with the Apollo and save a few bucks but if you don't want to deal with adding weight then go with the Mach 2 16mm.
@@pickleballeffect for the Mach 2 Forza you would recommend the 16mm over the 14mm? Now you made my decision harder LoL… might just keep the using the Prism 16mm for now until I figure out which would favor me more.
@@juansantiago1441 you didn't specify which mach 2 forza you were interested in and since you were playing with a 16mm before I just assumed you were looking at the 16mm version ha. But yeah, if you're looking at the M2F14 then it will give you more pop than the Prism, moves faster, still forgiving, but it does have a stiffer feel and needs weight added to it. If you want to keep that softer, plush feel then the 16mm options of any of those others would be closer to that than the M2F14.
I started adding 4 inches of my 1g per inch stuff on each side and like that more than 3 inches. I put it in the exact place shown in this video, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7omZPi69xtI.htmlsi=3Muh1jQCJkgBT1pj.
All the Vollair Forza paddles are on sale until 6/1 for 20% off plus it stacks with your coupon to net out the door for $129. So not much difference in price to Apollo
I played really well with the J2K today and decided to put together a full review for it. It’s pretty good. They are sending me the rest of their line up here soon so I’ll be trying that one out too.
re: Duras, the yellows are firmer than the green but the orange are even better (firmer, more crack resistant, and less prone to going out of round) than the yellows. unfortunately many people cringe at the orange because it's not in the yellow/green spectrum.
Can you do us a favor Braydon and ask John Kew and Chris & Will review the Maverix Havik 15 Pro. It plays pretty good. I was thinking if they can review pizza pan paddles, the Hexagon shaped paddle by Maverix is better looking that those pizza servers 😅
Hey guys, love the content. I was wondering if either of you have any experience with the katana by komodo pickleball? It's a kevlar paddle and the company is associated with Andre Agassi
I actually tried reaching out to them as one of our local pros told me to check them out. I’ll make sure to follow up. They seem to be targeting senior pros for their lineup which I think is pretty cool.
Interesting, I’ve heard the J2K more commonly compared as a better and cheaper Ruby, being softer and more control oriented than the Azul which lends itself to more power and pop.
Honolulu says their paddles have a swingweight range of 113-115 and mine was 115 so it's possible that my experience with a little heavier one compared to ones others could have gave me the perspective I have too. Either way, I liked the J2K vs the Ruby. The J2K feels really stable and strong which is what draws me to it vs the Ruby.
@@pickleballeffect awesome, sounds like a nice middle ground then. appreciate the feedback! looking forward to trying the J2K out soon when mine arrives, Ruby didn't quite do it for me, always preferred my DBD over it and been trying to find a proper successor haha
Jared makes the most ridiculous posts on facebook. "My mind was literally blown." No, it literally wasn't or you wouldn't be able to post. Then his take on Daescu and how he didn't actually play with the paddle. Dumb. Every point is the greatest point ever.
Selkirk cash grab tactics ain’t marketing. Good marketing builds brand equity to protect a business. Product, Placement, Promotion, and Price. If you look closely at each of those key metrics how is Selkirk really performing? Marketing is a science. If a business is scoring Ernes in each that converts to Profit. IMO just the $180 price point is an indicator of the current Selkirk market position.
Look at Placement…right now Selkirk paddles are hanging by a peg on the second floor of your local Dick’s Sporting Goods…next stop Walmart sporting goods and seasonal aisles.
Business is also about market segment size. I think that was touched on in this pod. Selkirk lowered the price and are making a paddle that will appeal to a larger market...and could increase brand loyalty based on accessorizing. I think pros will be able to compete with any paddle that's within a range of 'good'.
