Fiddly! But why didn't you paint the rusty bottom rail (where the window drive pulley is located)? Quite innovative, cutting a hole in the door - I don't think I'd have the courage..!
Well……..I do genuinely admire your persistence. I do hate these kind of jobs and sometimes had to walk away and await a better mood/phase of the moon to finish them off. At some point you may want to rethink the microfibre padding, which is going to retain moisture fairly quickly. Plastic wrapped foam perhaps? I guess you will be developing your fibreglassing /painting skills fairly soon…. There can’t be much of the car you haven’t disassembled and rebuilt by now.
Did you chop the inner skin away to access the door lock linkages? The biggest risk is tightening the bolts onto the glass that trap the wires. I obtained some bolts that are drilled and tapped to take a grub screw which tightens onto the wires so you don't risk breaking the glass.
No, I didn’t touch the inner skin. I can’t quite remember the bolts that went onto the glass. I only had trouble with the captive nuts holding the frame to the door
Very similar lock arrangement to my Gibern Invader. Also classic Mini internal door handles! Doors are probably the most complex bit of a car other than the running gear: A right fiddle. At least they appear to be a pretty good design though. Probably a bit late to mention this but you could have replaced the fibreglass sections that you cut out, using GRP matting on the inside and with a bit of finessing of the outside no-one would know....
I'm all caught up with the video's, really enjoyed them although some parts made my butt clench a little bit!! 🤣 But thats old cars for you. I'm looking for a plus2 at the moment which arn't too different. Keep it up Oliver and never stop swearing 😁
How many of us have wanted to say, f**k it, and just cut a hole in the body work to make access. Did a double take with the tap sticking it of the door. Haha. Tidy.
