Just a suggestion: Try jacking the front wheel up just enough that the wheel is still on the ground; the jack is taking the majority of the weight making it easier to break the bolts loose. I noticed that the male connector is a little wide on my car (2006 Elise) for some H1 bulbs; I just cut the OEM connector off, put a smaller one on; wrapped it in electrical tape-light is going on 6 years and zero issues. Oil from one's fingers can weaken the bulb, so your gloves should be fine; but yeah it's always a good practice to never touch LED (especially HIDs) bulbs with one's hand...
