Legendary underrated car/concept. The fact that it was an Opel and not a VW or a Ford, made the whole car media press back those days to fight against it cause it didnt had any antagonists. We know that Top Gear for example burrys whatever has the Vauxhall badge on it, for years now. GM is a dinosaur but everybody forget that those americans saved Lotus. Especially the British car "specialists"/presenters/etc. Formidable still.
@@scottysvensson Nah its basically Opel , engine is by Opel tuned by Lotus , chassis by Opel Suspassions tuned by Lotus , in your Logic Lotus Elise is Toyota because Elise has 1.8 liter Toyota engine ?
I owned nr 227. Sold it because no parts available. Had to change clutch, almost impossible to find! Then I broke the 2 turbo,s because to much boost. (Sticking wastegate)That was no problem to rebuild or find . Also had to change the bearings from crankshaft. Had to send the crankshaft to the UK. To much pain, so I sold it, but regret it now....... great car to drive on long distance, very comfortable. It had on the dyno 422hp and 625nm of torque after the turbo rebuild. No tuning at all. So better than Lotus claimed..
There is a couple of companies who restore them in the UK but they have been on the map for only the past 5 or 6 years as a business available to the public. As they are now in the classic car category 25 years + they are well sought after and need to be preserved.
@@gustavojack3012 it does not have the same engine. Brazil's Omega had a 4.1 six cylinder engine while the Carlton had an 3.6 biturbo six cylinder engine
It's a temperature meter for the cooling liquid NOT water... and the boiling point of this liquid is above 135 degrees celcius (wiki info). Begining of the meter is blue (cold) and the first point is at 90 degrees.. BUT as we all (should) know is that when this temp is showing between 90 and 100 it doesn't mean the engine oil is at operating temp.. That's why high performance cars also have an OIL-temp gauge next to the cooling liquid gauge. SO be careful not to floor it before oil is warm
@@eustahijelifetips LSD would of made a big difference but 6 speed box would of messed with the gearing of the car and altered the way it delivered its power, only thing a 6spd is good for is keeping the revs down on the motorway and making an engine with a very narrow powerband perform a bit better
@@johnsmith-nl3js this engine has a pretty good powerband, paired with an lsd with a different final drive would make it not achieve its top speed, thats why i think a 6 speed with a bit shorter gearing would help it hit that 300 mark
@@eustahijelifetips Lack of lsd? It has a differential from Holden's Commodore with a 45% LSD... Like the Omega 3000, it also has 45% LSD, though not from Holden. An expert - whose name unfortunately I can't remember - revealed a year ago that the top speed is 305... but that it is secret for political reasons, they didn't dare to reveal how fast it was and therefore it takes a secret trick to pass 285... The car can do 285-6 in 5th gear, when it reaches the red mark you must shift to 6th gear and continue... THEN it goes on to 305 - otherwise it stops at 285... You do know that it has 6 gears From the Corvette ZR-1?
Also, if you notice, the next number in the meter is 100°C, which is the water's boiling temperature at normal 1 atm pressure (pressurized in a system this temperature is higher), hence not that cold. He's hitting like 85-90°C in the video: it would cause a serious burn!
@jefray15 Like in every opel the water temp looks low if you are crusin on highway...it does not mean that the engine or the water is cold...i know cause i have a calibra turbo which can show the same water temp level like here in the video even i am driving on the road around 80-120km/h for 1hour...and if you open up the bonnet it is extremly hot...
@SynthieAl Yes...only if u stop at the traffic lights or if u rolling below 30-40hm/h...even this shows that the water temp is cold the computer knows the exact temperature of the water.and whoever owns a classing lotus omega would never do this on cold engine...hopefully :D
You just cut the drive and let it run neutral at 270km/h 😳😳 The car becomes a loose projectile when you put it in neutral. One small wrong steering movement and you will easy lose control of the car. Be carefull with that. The gearratio is insane in this car. 1st gear goes to 90km/h or close to!
Auto favolosa ma con una strumentazione a di poco pietosa!!! Persino l Opel Frontera aveva più manometri!!! Qui dove sono mettere almeno altri due, Press turbo e Press olio!!!
If you look at the end of the film then you see that this is fake. look out over the dashboard and then you see that things don't go that fast past the car.
It's the temperature of the water only, not the engine or oil... Being "low" (it's actually above the blue, cold part) at these speeds (in mine even stopped) only means that these cars have great cooling systems.
