14:53 Charlie is a good example of what not to do to help an abuse victim. When handling abusers, you have to be tactful and treat the situation like glass. This lesson unfortunately came to Charlie at the price of Angel getting hurt. Charlie didn’t fully understand just how deep the abuse ran, but now has a better gage on where to push and where to leave it be. The episode is hard to watch, especially if one gets triggered by abuse scenes. But, Hazbin actually did it really well. They didn’t romanticize it like a lot of shows do, it’s raw and heartbreaking, it’s not meant to be seen as something attractive.

Charlie and Angel's dynamic is probably my favourite of the show. She's the first person to actually see the good in him and he knows that and loves her for it. Angel is definitely the most human character of this show and his motivations are so relatable.

"Loser, Baby" is a great example of how, quite often, we don't need someone to solve our problems. We just need to know there's someone there to watch the world burn with us, and that's okay.

I love this episode so much, the way they made Poison such a fucking jam and then put it over some of the hardest to watch visuals combined with Blake Roman putting in fucking *work* with the acting/singing-this is a masterclass on how to portray abuse without tipping over the edge into either gratuitous or glamorising territory. Also LOVED your reaction to Loser, Baby 😂 I had the same moment of HUH??? and then like, it dawns on you what Husk is doing and it just immediately hits right in the heart. Someone in Angel’s position doesn’t need smoke up their ass about how it’s all okay, because it isn’t, but knowing he isn’t *alone*? He’s not isolated like he thinks he is, which is the only true power Val had over him. Val had to make Angel a victim to keep hold over him, and Husk gave Angel the hand he needed to start standing on his own again. I love this stupid show.

I love that it was Angel Dust who left thr hotel that night, and Anthony who returned with Husk 🥰✨️

On second viewing I finally picked up that Val tries drugging Charlie when they meet. Val’s saliva and pheromones are used for Velvettes “Love Potion”, the same one the shark puts in Angels drink. And when they meet, Val pushes Charlie’s sleeve up and licks all up her arm. But luckily it seems she’s far too powerful to be affected.

This episode was hard to watch, but it was really good too. I’m glad they didn’t sugarcoat it and showed what Angel was going through. He quickly became my favorite character (dethroned only recently by another character that shows up later) because we got to see how deep he is and I wanted to protect him 😭 Also the HuskerDust!!!! Ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

What I love about Charlie and Angel is that both are willing to allow themselves to be harmed to protect the people they care about, but they do it in their own way and that language needs a translator. I love them both soooooo much can’t wait for season 2

Just fun fact, angel belongs to a mob family when he was alive which explains the drugs and guns he pulls out when fighting.

When you are going through a rough time everyone will tell you "it gets better ✨EVENTUALLY ✨" but it can be a day, a year or even more, having someone say "hey I get you, your life sucks right now" it might come up as harsh but it helps to have someone that gets it, yeah it might get better later but sometimes you need someone to go through NOW to get to later. About the Charlie thing, sometimes we think we can help but been in a situation like angel can fell 10 times more difficult than it really is, is like the people that see others in an abusive relationship and say "just get out and its all good" its a good advice but is not easy when you are in that situation, maybe for monetary reasons, maybe you don't have a support system(or you don't KNOW you have one) or maybe you have been convince that you deserve it.

I wouldn’t really describe the endings as sudden tbh, esp not this one 😭 seemed like a pretty good and expected place to finish, with angel and husk going off to have a drink and bond more. the episode conflict started with angel and husk arguing as well, so it makes sense to end it there

People who are extremely selfish end up miserable, but not as miserable as people who are extremely selfless. If you don't take care of yourself first, there's not enough of you there to help others afterwards. It's a balance: Don't be a selfish asshole, but don't be so selfless that there's less of your self to go around.

Hey man, love your reactions, I like that you dont cut the songs. Yeah Poison is such a hard song to watch, that last line with the voice break hits me so hard every time. I think the message here is brilliant, that pushing help onto a victim can make it worse, and as a victim of abuse, you should know your not alone in being in such a tough situation and that your not trapped, it can change. Loved your initial reaction to Loser Baby lol, its such a quirky way to lift the mood.

Wait until you meet her dad, which should also make you look askance at what is presented in episode 6. And some choices made in 8 which kind of demonstrates Charlie's proof of concept. Which also puts into question Lucifer's banishment.

Some idiot snowflakes are trying to get this episode canceled because of the SA scene, thinking that the show is glamorizing it somehow, that they shouldn't have that kind of stuff on the air. However, those who are victims of SA have stated that, for probably the first time ever, they feel seen and represented and love how the show depicted it. Also, apparently val is a depiction of an abusive ex that viv had, so this episode is also therapeutic for her.

Let’s be honest, you’re only watching this because episode 4 isn’t available anywhere else

To me, "Loser, Baby" is a song about being able to laugh and find the humor in your own miserable circumstances and the camaraderie that can come from that with people willing to laugh at their own misery with you. It's about choosing to laugh when life hits you hard, making that hit not hurt so much. And if it doesn't hurt so much, it loses some of its power over you.

Loser is one of the most uplifting songs in the most un-ironic way imaginable. lol. It is exactly what Angel needed to hear given how he feels about himself and feels he needs to always perform.

Poison is an absolutely awesome song... until you watch it with the visuals. Then somehow it manages to be an incredible banger of a song, that makes you feel incredibly dirty and ill at the same time. They did NOT hold back on that number. And Charlie proves that good intentions aren't always good. Her heart is in the right place, but she is naive about just walking in and assuming everyone else will be good and decent. She wants to see good in everyone. But with abuse like this, any outside interference is only going to rain down on the victim 3x harder than it would have before. Until you can get the victim to safety somehow, you have to treat the abuser like delicate spun sugar. They also did not shy away from the horror Angel is dealing with. It's ripping him apart, he wants out so desperately, he can't ever get out because he chose to sign the contract. The depravity of his treatment, completely non-consensual, entirely forced because Val literally holds his soul, is vile beyond words. It's not made to look pretty, or fun, or desirable.

When I first heard poison, I didn’t know the meaning behind it. Then I saw the animation and understood almost immediately, I wasn’t in an abusive relationship with my EX GF, it was actually rather nice. But it wasn’t until a couple years into the relationship that she told me she had a r*pe kink. She asked me about it, and I strongly told her no, and that if she tried anything I would defend myself. She understood though and never did anything. I never thought about it again, and I’m in a new relationship with my BF, we watched the show together and when I saw the animation for poison I started to think about it again. And later that night when I was scrolling through my phone, poison kept popping up and made me think more about that relationship I was in, and what could’ve happened. It made me scared, and I overthink things VERY easily, making me think the worst of things. But I also felt relieved that we broke up when we did, and now I’m with someone who would kill anyone if they tried anything like that. Also I should probably talk to him about this but I don’t know how to explain it or even bring it up

Watching this episode was very difficult because I went through the same thing as Angel a few months ago.

As someone who was s/a ed THIS EPISODE FUCKING BROKE ME 😭

Personally what I think happened is Angel wound up in Hell with nothing: no home, no money, and no family. It’s been confirmed that when he was alive he was in the Italian mafia, I think he might’ve been shunned or even disowned for being gay. When he arrived in Hell he might’ve been selling himself on the street just to get his next meal. Val found him and took advantage of his situation, seeing no other way out he had no choice but to literally sell his soul

I never see anyone point out why it's such a massive deal that Angel forgave Charlie. That's what redemption is! Far as either know, forgiving Charlie has no selfish benefit, in fact he is giving up leverage on her. Angel does so because he understands and accepts her even though she didn't listen and her meddling caused him tremendous pain. If Angel can forgive, there is no reason he can't also be forgiven.

The only way to deal with someone who uses human shields the way Val does is to go right through the shield with no sympathy. You can't help them, but you can help the abuser's future victims by getting rid of them regardless of the cost to their current victims. Husk's tough love speech/song is a lot closer to the mark.

I'ts still acted well but replacing the og cast does kinda suck.
