Ich liebe ihn auch seit ich 16 Jahre alt war. Bin jetzt 65. Wir wurden in der geilsten Zeit geboren. Habe ihn zum erstenmal live in Harlem NY gesehen. Liebe auf den ersten Blick!! Wir sind Glückspilze! RIP Lou. ❤️❤️🇨🇭
I’m 71 and just discovered Lou! I’d heard “Walk On The Wild Side” from way back in the day, but never listened to anything else...This man is amazing...I’m glad to have found him.
You are like me. I’m 55 and a big music guy but never payed much attention to Lou…. but this concert woke me up and I’ve been listening to him like crazy on Spotify. He’s a genius and his Velvet Underground stuff is equally as good. Enjoy brother! ✌️
@@johnschkeeper no...hahaha...hardly!..I have listened to music since mid 1950s. But I’m still “Alive” so I plan on enjoying all different types of music... The Tibetan monastery was a nice touch...Thanks for your concern✌️
@@OutOnTheTiles thank you! Yeah, I don’t want to look back and see what I missed. I’m sure there was a lot! So I just listen in the “Present Tense” Take care✌️
@@johnschkeeper I know. Late 60s I was having my 1st son. Beatles, CCR, Stephan wolf (sp) Cream, you get the picture. But believe me that if I had known of Lou and VU I would have been buying their 4,8 tracks😜
Well, that was about time Virginia !!! You've heard since then about The Velvet? The Factory in NYC? Lower East Side? Midtown? I'm from Europe myself and not native English speaking at all, and if it's your case... I mean being a Yankee girl or from I don't know where in the UK you really have to improve your real good old culture... Mind you there's no age at all for this, but still...
In 1999 I had a band in college and we started playing sweet jane. than we started adding other Lou's songs to the set and ended up playing a whole set of his songs. I can proudly tell that I played in a Lou Reed tribute/cover band. By chance and by accident, so to speak.
RIP not only Lou Reed, but ROBERT QUINE! He was playing lead guitar for Lou Reed AND Richard Hell & The Voidoids at the same time! He began as a fan of the Velvet Underground, taping their performances in San Francisco which were later released as "The Quine Tapes." From just a face in the crowd to a rock star in his own right. Thanks Bob!
@@ga5782 They are 100%. Obviously you're musically illiterate. Every punk band was inspired by Lou Reed. He was the link between 60s scene and the beginning of punk. Everyone knows this. Him and The Stooges.

The version of Street Hassle played here is almost comical the way the tune is played and his vocal delivery. So much more upbeat than the subject matter of the song. Lou was quite the character and he definitely looks to be having a lot of fun during this show.
We do have points in common then...Alice, Bolan, Purple, Led Zep, Floyd, Yes, Genesis, Graaf, Sabbath, Santana, Tull, Heep... And a few hundred more I guess: into prog, punk, psyche, classic rock (The Who & the likes), new wave, new romantic, Cold Wave... And my two heroes: Patti & Jimi of course ...
Just when you're totally smoked by a performance you look up and see 788 people gave it the thumbs down. I'm thinking ...."Where was I in 1984? Why couldn't I have been there?" I'm sitting here filled with regret that I never saw this man live, then I notice almost a thousand people thought...."Nope, this is a thumbs down." Is there a way to just redirect these folks to an Abba video and keep them away from us???
Yeah definitely. I started seeing him live in the 80’s. Some great lyrics lots of fodder with Reagan . New York is a masterpiece. One of many for King Lou!!! An American poet….
I was born in 1944 in Passaic NJ But in 1984, I was not a Fan of Lou Reed. I saw many Concerts at the Capitol Theater while growing up in that area and throughout my life, my musical interests changed and Lou became one of my favorite musicians! Lou is a hard core Rock & Roll Animal and he is missed but His music will live on!
Listening to to his Music there is (are) so many levels to the simplicity. The lyrics are simple, lyrical, political, humorous, existential.....so not simple but to the point on so many levels....I love his rhythm playing......I miss em.
Been watching Lou, Tom Petty, Joe Strummer, Stuart Adamson, David Bowie and Prince tonight, god bless those guys, I can't believe they're no longer here.
It's so great to see and hear the legendary Robert Quine (RIP). One of most underrated rock guitarists of all time. If you're a guitarist and you're reading this, go listen to everything he ever recorded. You won't be sorry. He was the master of the Stratocaster.
@@LaughingStock_ It's absolutely brilliant how Quine arranges the two guitar breaks in "Blank Generation." The first one is more composed, the second one is more primitive-exactly the opposite of what you're supposed to do. Therein lies his genius.
he's a great drummer but you can tell he has no idea how to play this kind of music...should have got maureen tucker back...it ruins the vibe to hear a bunch of rimshots and big 80's drumming on these songs
I agree, and I think the keyboardist is pretty good too. As for the drummer, I guess when you start out with Maureen Tucker it's all downhill after that. Seriously these songs don't require anything fancy on the drums, but it can be said Reed had a band with Hunter S. Thompson and John Cazale look-a-likes in it.
@@gillesbourgeois5348 I didn't say I disliked his playing. If you re-read it I was joking about Mo Tucker but I agreed with you his songs don't require any showy drumming.
For some reason when I was in my twenties and younger, I never thought about seeing Lou Reed live. He's such a tremendous songwriter. He wrote so many great songs that got covered by Mott The Hoople, David Bowie and Iggy Pop. It's so great watching him play guitar. I was listening to "Rock and Roll Animal" today on CD and it sounded so good.
I know a bloke who saved for years to go and see his hero Lou Reed live. Got the tickets, hotel and flights. Turned up at the gig. The hype train is whistling full speed. Lou looks out at the crowd, says "Fuck it" and walked off stage He still says it was worth it
Lou Reed felt the style like no one else. The way he sang can hardly be called singing. Almost all of his songs sound like prose stories. That's why I love him.
@@jonjones820 Doug Yule sang lead vocals on half or more of Loaded. Lou is one of my fave all time regardless. One thing he could do proper that Dylan never really did (Dylan is my fave all time artist), is compassion.
It’s odd, when David died I had immediate mass grief. I finally realized in 2023 what a great loss Lou was, what a giant. I mean I was introduced to Lou much earlier than David. I even had a chance to help peel off the banana sticker, I think me and my friend shared that unique experience lol. Lou is now much more in my conscience. Was listening to Lady Godiva’s Operation several times today. I just never thought of a world without Lou and David, then it happened. I hate the passing of time. Well greetings to all my fellow Lou fans, be well.
In Oz we call it 'social isolation' for over 65 year olds like me. But there are many good sides to this like re-visiting my hippie past & the incredible musical renewal times we went through. Wow, wouldn't have want to miss it... so rich!
I was at this show. Went to college not too far from Passaic. An unknown rap group named Run DMC was the opening act. 8 songs were broadcast live on WNEW in New York. Great show! My ears rang for 3 days.
A lot of people in the audience had almost never heard rap, there was more than one act that opened for Lou. All New York rap. ..I was at the show too, it made an impression on me. I was 23.
Man, Jim Carroll was all that and then some, my favorite poet. I have so enjoyed this concert, it takes me back. My life was saved by Rock and Roll. Thanks, Chris
Saw the lineup that was part of the ‘A Rock’n’Roll Animal’ live album in South Australia with a very raw AC/DC as support (pre-Bon Scott). Steve Hunter on guitar, Prakash John on bass, Pennti Glann on drums. Awesome show. Lou with bleach blond hair, aviators, black leather peaked cap, leather pants and jacket and white tee shirt. They were the business.
I believe that what is so "artful" about Lou Reed's music is that he combines the poetry of words with music rather than limiting the words by the music! Perhaps the opposite trend has taken over most of the modern music. Yes, perhaps RAP has moved in to create a minimal semblance for what Lou and his kind created long ago! And to this of course there is a strong, essential element of a New Orleans' Rhythms & Blues! ie. Dr. John etc. So very often "modern" music is more powerful on the instrumental aspect leaving words so far behind! Lou reminds us where rock n' roll began!!!
well lou reed was never commercial. we have had bent lyrics and 8 minutes of noise. definitely not commercial. some people do not this. i do not understand. they can take a walk.
Yeah, some kind of New Orleans rhythms. On some of the cuts I got an almost Cajun/Zydeco feel in my feet, like a New Jersey zydeco or something… I like it, a LOT.
Lou Reed is sadly missed. He wrote about subjects nobody else would. Venus in Furs, Dirty Boulevard, Street Hasel.Love his interviews with the press. Love album Animal Seronade brilliant live , nothing up these sleeves , no tapes or loops. Great live. Nobody yet has taken your place.
Lou Gives the ambiance of the NY-Jersey-Philly area in rock music that makes me want to be right there in the city, maybe dreaming I'd get out of there one day, but not really wanting to.....like the early Springsteen and very few others. This is the music that makes me feel passion and nostalgia all wrapped up in neon lights reflecting off the puddles on the pavement on a crisp autumn night. Music is the best mode of traveling in the mind. Anyone relate to what I just shhhhhpewed out ? lol
Such a great document...such a HUGE creative mind. Fabulous Lou. I discovered him with "Lou Reed Live" when I was a a kid from Brussels. I just pinpoint him as a GREAT man. Composer, singer, actor...Hat's off!!!
In French...
The album Rock and Roll Animal is one of the greatest works of music ever recorded. Lou Reed was obviously a genius and his entire career is a gift to humanity.
Rock and Roll Animal is exactly that, certainly top 10 album of all time, live or studio. For sheer raw energy and drive, hard to top and those left & right guitar solos, wow. This concert is bloody great too, and the lady who introduces it is a treat to watch flaunt off stage !
gears5336 couldn’t have put it better myself. Never listened to anything Lou Reed until i was 19 (2015) when a friend showed me their music, and it instantly felt very personal towards my general mood at the time, especially as time went on and shit started going downhill for me. He was a hell of a singer and songwriter
I think it was in 85 when I took a drive with some buddy’s from s. Jersey up to The Capital theatre. I saw Exodus, Testament and Anthrax. Those were the days. Loooouuuu you are the man!!
Makes me cry - Leonardo Lenny Ferarri on drums - I was there - what a night - my buddy Lenny is alive - but has bad Alzheimer's - What an artist - what a truly great human... so Cool to see him playing again...
It's a really amazing concert, I love Lou. Unfourtunetely the incredible bass player rarely shows up on screen, these were the 80's and diversity and inclusion were not in the front row.
Always loved Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground, but in the pantheon of amazing musicians and artists who have never been able to scratch 2 cents together, or have the luck of being acquainted with great promoters or other great musicians to go somewhere with their career, I'd say, 'definitely not over-rated'. Lots of great artists out there who nobody will ever regard, and frankly, Sir Lou was a bit high on himself and lousy with fans.
Oh stop it. Nothing more annoying and tiresome on YT than the generic "underrated" opine. He's one of the more revered artists of his time and genre. Legions of fans and admiring musicians around the globe. Give it a rest.
Je l'ai vu en 1977 à mont de Marsan au Punk rock festival. il est arrivé avec deux bonnes heures de retard, mais ça valait le coup. Que de bon souvenirs. J'avais 19 ans.
I know someone said they dont like it but I think this version of Street Hassle is genuinely amazing. The contrast of a drag queen dying of an overdose lyrical subject matter with the upbeat groove is so fucking authentic and that is what Lou brought to us all. Authenticity.
I was a teenage punk when the Challenger space shuttle exploded on takeoff. I called the radio station and asked the DJ to play Satellite of Love. That's when he told me I was a teenage punk. Then he hung up.
I’m so glad to rediscover this show along with Lou at this point in time and his excellent band. I had a wise cousin take my fairly clueless young teenaged ass to see this same group around this time at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. The scales fell off my ears and eyes. Thanks Chas. Hope you’re bumming a cigarette off Quine on the other side. 🎵🎸😊
I just finally got around to photographing all of my concert tickets that I've managed to save over the last 48 years. Now I'm cropping and processing them, one at a time, so, of course, I play some music to entertain myself while I work - What a treat to realize that, as I'm working on the ticket stub for Lou Reed from 1984 at DAR Constitution Hall, in Washington D.C., I'm listening to a concert from the same tour!! Thanks for uploading this great show for all of us to enjoy. I wish The Tube of You hadn't jammed 40 million adds on to it, but I'll struggle through while I can.
The interplay between Lou, Robert & Fernando is amazing. This was probably Lou's best solo band. And I'm digging the funk version of Street Hassle. Holy shit, I'm shocked it worked so well in that setting.
Walk on The Wild side & Heroin were my favorites and had to see him in Vancouver, B.C. around 79 or 80's. ❤ Oh my I love all the music from them day's. 😆
