i cried the first time i was listening to this...it was the version from this live recording, and it somewhat better than the album one. there are little differences that any patient and focused here can notice...the way he delivers some verses, the way he play the guitar adding some really nice licks, and the enter of drums at the end that fits so well...anyway i put this song as the most huntingly depressing song by now............
Yeah, he evidently liked adding noodly little licks on stage. He was no classically great guitarist but that he could do. I saw the VU on tour shortly before this gig and it was the same there: Lou looking like the alpha-tomcat that got the cream as he played noodly little licks right on top of John Cale's vocal delivery in 'The Gift', It very clearly pissed Cale off like nothing else.
Incredible! If you told William S. Burroughs that he wrote these lyrics he'd probably believe you. Lou Reed will be respected more by each passing generation and will always be mentioned among the greatest songwriters/artists.
This is a shame! Plagged / plagiato/copyed on 1992 by Lou Reed by the song name "Harrys Circumcision" LP : Magic and Loss. The original song was "Blod sacrifice" recorded by the LP Asylum of the Italian punk-rock Band ELEKTROSHOCK on the 1978. RCA records!
cristian bernard i dont think so...electroshock was inspired by reed as well as tons of other artists...blood sarcifice for example reminds of heroin...you could say the chords are similar bit the two songs have anything in common! it is not the case of talking of "plagio"...plagio would be if the song was almost identical. comunque sono italiano non conoscevo gli electroshock ma leggendo questo commento mi sono incuriosito e ho voluto verificare, non diciamo cazzate per favore
I agree with Radioff--you're wrong. You may, at most, be dealing with what, in biology, is called 'convergent evolution'--two organisms (species) arriving at the same evolutionary result independently of each other--but I doubt it. Lou was releasing stuff about his own electro-shock therapy by 1974 at the latest ('Kill Your Sons'). Also, he was hardly a mega-linguist writer like TS Eliot, James Joyce or Samuel Beckett...
toking a bowl and drinking in the beauty of my biggest rock and roll hero. He had improved so much as a live performer. in the past he was sometimes high and careless, but this and other stuff shows him present and in full force. He's singing it better than studio... Lots of people will not be the same without him.
I remember reading that, in his own estimation, his missus basically resurrected his career by getting him a word processor. He had craploads of song ideas on pieces of paper strewn all over the place but (cf. 'Kill Your Sons') he was that much of a mess then that he couldn't even read them when he went back to them.
