Lou reed is my musical inspiration, he could make something so simple so perfect

To be fair perfect day has quite complex chord progressions based around switching majors and minors, it's quite the intrincate composition. Songs like vicious i think are a better example of minimalism in his work. Nice observations and beautiful video anyway

Absolutely. Had to cut the line which said the music wasn't so simple, in order to fit it into a minute. But there's a full video on my channel called The Complicated Legacy of Lou Reed if you want the more in-depth take.

A sign of the time frame, minimalism was ubiquitous in the 70s

The problem with minimalism is that it could happen that you'd never have fun with music. It could also happen that you'd have never been that productive. Making a decent living should count for something. Controlling one's heroin consumption could help with this.

Lou saw himself first as a poet who aspired to be a rock star. Reed overlaying some saxophone in this line of Paranoia in the Key of E- “And in my bedroom is a female zoo worse then Clinton in prime time” is just classic sardonic Lou. RIP Lou.

@@Bubby-vc5fv yeah I think it modulates based on a pattern of chord progressions, each with 3 chords, idk, so your comment wasn't totally wrong before you edited it Edit: actually it modulates in 3 different keys, I'm not sure about the chords

Road Runner by Jonathan Richman has only two chords (I and IV) throughout, but the second-to-last chord is a V. He was a huge VU fan and always saw them play in Boston. I read somewhere that he even slept on the couch of their manager once for a week to see them play in New York every day. Somebody said that his music is like VU, but sunny side up. I think that is quite accurate.

@@pillmuncher67 yeah, I wanna say I remember reading that Lou found Jonathan annoying (I can certainly believe it) but he definitely got his foot in the door. didn't John cale play organ on one version of another of roadrunner? it's been a while since my last listen

@@douglasspringer1665 D and G, respectively! one interesting thing to note is they deliberately tuned their instruments a whole step down for tonal purposes, so in a relative sense they would have played A and D
