I don't know why they laughed at his idea of writing albums for school. That's still one of the best ideas anyone has ever had. It would solve so many problems long term, it's unreal.

I had an English writing teacher in the 7th grade who would play rush 2112 and then have the class write a dystopian short story that she would judge harshly on the grammatical errors. Not to keen on rush these days, but I remember that really lit a creative spark in me and a reflective side to my young and naive middle school thought process/soul.

@alphajava761
@alphajava761 8 месяцев назад
That's a great autobiography by Richards, one of the best. Duff McKagan's first autobiography is excellent as well because he's also a literature buff like Richards so they both know how a book should be written. Dylan is a bookworm as well and that's why his autobiography is also so great.

Good to see this essential interview is working its way up the RU-vid-click-ladder. This one is easily the best available on the site, and it covers a lot of gound. There's the musical tech talk, insight on songwriting approach, a smidgen of the personal, and a few little very sharp jabs that Lou could do better than anyone. (imagined self-satisfied comment from a music critic): "Well I know what I like..." Lou: "Oh, I'm sure you do." Ouch.

I just finished reading Anthony's book on Lou Reed, and it was wonderful. SSo now am listening to the interview which now has more meaning. Has he written any books on Bowie? I read one by Dylan Jones and I wasn't overly impressed; I could tell from his comments in itallics he didn't much like Bowie. Was not a fair and balanced book. Also lots of disorted facts. Anthony wrote what was truthful about Reed and seemed to keep from being opinionated. Thanks for showing the interview!

Andy Warhol started something very interesting, and a lot of people wouldn't be around if it weren't for him, but then, maybe Valerie Solanas wasn't altogether...unreasonable. At any rate: Burroughs wrote about one and a half valuable things. And then he beat that shit into the ground... But Lou Reed, man, he's gonna get me through some hard days to come. I think.

So how do you make something sound loud, without it damaging your hearing because its loud? Is our perception of loudness RELATIVE, at least partially due to hearing how something sounds relative to something else? So to make something sound loud, would you simply first play something as soft as possible, then play something louder, then play something soft again. The softer you can get the soft sound, the louder the loud sound sounds. You don't have to change the volume of the loud sound, or change anything about the loud sound to make it sound louder. Just change the volume of the soft sound. No?

I don't know but I do know that Lou Reed damaged my hearing with the Ecstasy-tour (he did a gig in Groningen). Yet it was the best concert I even witnessed.
@therealrussellsmyth
@therealrussellsmyth 2 года назад
A lot of guitar distortion/ saturation / compression techniques make things seem comparatively louder to the human ear but are in fact less likely to clip ... quite interesting ... the sound becomes less transient but the added harmonics from the distortion make up the difference , and then some ...it’s actually a softer / less abrasive sound after saturation , even if it’s perceived as actually louder than the source.
