This was the sound of my childhood. A 1998 BlueBird TC2000 with the 12 valve 5.9L inline 6 Cummins diesel paired with an Allison AT545 automatic transmission. The whine you hear in 1st and 2nd is from the use of straight-cut gears to minimize axial thrust on the driven shafts. Such an iconic sound!
@DominckSwakon no. The Blue Bird TC2000 never received a V8 Cummins. The FE's all ran the 5.9 12 valve Cummins with the Allison AT545 until 1999 when the 24 valve 5.9 and Allison 1000 series transmissions debuted. The only exception is the 1988 to 1995 TC2000's which had a gasoline powered Chevy 427 as an option.
It's very amazing that this old bus runs in so many years with an outstanding classic sound. That Allison AT545 gave that engine a hard work to agressively throttle up such power. This was honestly a childhood memory of hearing such iconic sound. Hearing this made me miss my ol school times. Godly what a bus
