I'd like to see an overhaul on an xbox 360 slim. You know like a clear shell, clear dvd drive, clear controller, led strips around the console with a modded ring of life. I also heard somewhere that you can put 2 internal drives inside of an xbox 360 slim, it would be pretty cool seeing that too. :D
@RestorationRelaxation
@RestorationRelaxation 3 года назад
Hmm that’s an interesting idea! I’m wondering if you can use the DVD drive’s SATA cable for a second drive. I know you can replace the internal 4GB drive in Trinity consoles with a USB port. Thanks for the ideas!

I just wanted to say that this is a perfect video to get started modding my PS2 fat. Of course the only thing is that I never tried to mod a game console before, but at least your video is somewhat simple to do and copy the steps. But again, thanks.

I purchased a kit from Amazon that came with a pre-soldered fan and 3d printed housing. This was able to help me install that kit instead of making one raw.

Hey man, how is it performing 2 years later? I just performed this mod myself on an SCPH-30001R model with the same 12V fan. Just curious, because I keep seeing conflicting information online saying it's not as efficient as the stock fan because of the voltage difference (Noctua fan not running at rated speed due to the PS2's lower fan voltage). Thanks, and I enjoy your videos very much.

I’ve done it on an Xbox 360. The same fans in that video are not enough to cool the temps go straight to 70c and then proceeds to over heat on the 360 phat definitely possible to put quieter fans in there. The original Xbox I’m pretty sure people have done
@RestorationRelaxation

@@IMDYT420 what about lower voltage fans in the 360? I’m wondering if they’d spin fast enough

Do the noctua fans improve air flow to counteract the decrease in voltage? I did a similar fan mod, but the 12v fans I tested didn't seem to have enough air flow at the PS2 fan's voltage to keep the temperature from running away. When testing the stock fan, the temperature would get plateau after a few minutes, but with the 12v fans, the temperature kept increasing. I eventually just stopped the test, since I didn't want the unit to overheat. I ended up swapping out some resistors in the fan circuit to give the 12v fan a little more juice. Maybe this wouldn't have been a problem if I had used a noctua fan lol
@RestorationRelaxation
@RestorationRelaxation 2 года назад
There’s definitely less air flow but I haven’t had issues with overheating. I’d definitely be interested in doing some tests…how were you measuring temps?
@ThickpropheT

@@RestorationRelaxation I ran the probe of an electronic meat thermometer through memory card slot 2 and rested it in between the two heat sinks above the motherboard with the tip of the probe facing the disc drive. I think I took the memory card door off of the shell so that didn’t get in the way and then gently wedged a memory card into slot 2 next to the probe cable to simulate the door still being there. Then I played mgs3 for 20-30 minutes while keeping an eye on the thermometer
@RestorationRelaxation

There are 5V noctua fans, if the problem is that the original sony fan is 5V. Or, you can tap into the 12V of the PSU.
@andrebrait
@andrebrait Месяц назад
@@RestorationRelaxation You used the low-noise fan cable, judging from the resistor at 3:50. That also doesn't help the fan spin faster.

Hi, does anyone know a Brand-Model to recommend for INTERNAL FAN replacement? I know the FAN for PS2 FAT must be 60x60x15mm, 7V powered with a 2Pin connector (7v and 2pin is not so common)..

Have you seen this drop in fan mod? - www.amazon.com/TPO-Playstation-Quiet-Upgrade-Modification-30000/dp/B0854FJ4RR . I just ordered and should be able install tomorrow. If I can rig up a camera and some patience, I might make a video showing the installation. Then again it could go badly and I won't post anything, hehe.

At 12:13 there's a tiny wire with a plug. I broke my PS3 Fat blu-ray drive wire. I pulled it too hard and the socket or whatever remained in place, but the wires got ripped at the end of the wires. Is there a way to fix it, so that the wires connect to the socket properly again?

The timestamp isn't valid so I'm not sure which wires were ripped, but you could always solder them directly to the board

Honestly, I had a hard time, but I had never touched a 3D printer prior to setting it up. Now that I’ve set this one up, I’m confident I could set up any other printer…if that makes sense. It may be frustrating at first, but once you figure out why parts go in certain places, it’s easy.

It seems like the lower noise is due to using a 12V fan w/ worse airflow. What does a 5V noctua sound like?
@RestorationRelaxation
@RestorationRelaxation Год назад
It’d definitely be louder. The ps2 fan is 7v, and I can’t remember if a 5v noctua option was available at the time, to be honest. I’m not really concerned about airflow since the ps2 runs so cool
