I love that Gabriel Byrne is one of Kermode's favorite actors. He is sometimes not given the due he deserves.

A brilliant film. I saw it in October, and it still pops back into my head from time to time. I can understand the objections other people might have, but to me it was a very fulfilling experience.

The comparison to Donnie Darko was genius.

That comparison to American Beauty has me worried...I hated that movie. But I loved Reprise & Oslo, August 31st from this director, so I'll give it a chance.

i wish somebody explain 2 me what is genius about this movie!the deceased wife was cheating on her husband and the husband was having an affair before / right after she died, and the older son cheated on his wife right after their baby's born...and all throughout the movie, you can sense that the writer/producer wants you to sympathise with those cheaters and understand their situations?!are they trying to make cheating acceptable in modern societies or something??

abdelmajid guebleoui yeah I agree with you. Why was cheating so necessary ?

The concept that suicide cheats death. Really smart. Also, the 1987 clip of Byrne as the love interest in the (awful) "Hello Again" is also about a woman who cheats death by "coming back to life" aka comedy.
