The original is actually easy to understand. It's by Richard Berry ,who wrote the song, with his band The Pharoahs, from 1957. It's on YT. Cheers. The funniest part about the song is it was originally a B-side. The B-side of 'You Are My Sunshine'.
If you want to know the words buy the songbook. This is rock and roll and hearing the words or them making any sense is not necessary. Like abstract painting doesn't have to be a thing.
Je te comprends. Je me suis mis à écouter The Clash vers le Lycée, et j'en reprends certaines de leurs chansons à la basse. Un plaisir, d'autant plus qu'ils touchent au reggae, au ska, des musiques noires à la base (comme le rock). Mais maintenant, c'est la musique "mainstream" qui aliéné la culture de nos cadets! Personnellement j'ai la chance d'avoir des parents avec de la bonne culture ^^ et oui c'est toujours cool de voir qu'ils reprennent des musiques de tout genre, je n'aime pas trop le reggae d'habitude, mais quand j'entends leurs reprises, c'est tout simplement parfait ! (comme Redemption Song que Joe a repris)

To - Andrew Leibs Wow--never knew they covered this! They didn't cover it..they mostly played it as a rehearsal number, rarely in gigs. To - John Stalvern why was topper never in clash photos? This photo was taken before the mighty Topper had joined. The first album cover also only shows Joe, Mick & Paul for the same reason. Terry Chimes drummed on that album, but he wasnt really an integral part of the band. Only after Topper joined was the band complete. In every sense. And, what a band.

L'éducation musicale se fait par les parents oui :) Je n'aimerais pas autant les Floyd, les Clash, Yes ou les stones si mes parents n'avaient pas passé les cassettes et les 33 tours en boucle quand j'étais gosse ^^ Mais aujourd'hui peu de parents passent du temps à faire écouter la musique qu'ils aiment à leurs gosses, et c'est dommage, car ceux-ci tombent dans les choses qu'ils voient à la télé, c'est à dire une bonne grosse daube commerciale.

Salut, un fan Français (et de moins de 50 ans :D) de plus (Y) ! Tout ça pour dire que dans le petit lycée (800 élèves) ou j'étais jusqu'à la fin de l'année, impossible de leur faire écouter autre chose que du rap, de la pop ou de la techno hardcore ; mais dans mon ancien lycée (2000 élèves), les goûts étaient bien plus variés, et on était pas juste 3 pélerins à connaître les Clash ^^).

The Kingsmen version is superb, for sure. Original too. As for The Clash's cover, to be honest they never really played it that much, it was a tune they used to crash through in rehearsals before a Gig (they also used to like doing 'Time is Tight' as a warm up tune too) Nevertheless, this is a pretty powerful rendition and shows how much raw power and riff the band could generate. Had they chosen to perform this song live on a regular basis, and perfected it, they may have gone on to 'own' it.
