I think it is a far worse crime when people present themselves as a decent human being but then we later find out they are a actually a POS.

That's a fair point! For all his flaws, he certainly didn't try to hide them

Celine once told Henry Miller : “ Learn to be wrong ... the problem with the world is that everyone wants to be right ... and that is why it disheartens one so “ Destouches and Celine are one ; they are vile and entertaining ; both eloquent and venomous : a sort of poetic “ Komodo Dragon “ flicking its tongue while hissing humorous , disgusting observations.

"celine" (this was his "pen name") wasnt that bad a fellow. in fact he was a doctor, and treated low income citizens.

people are complicated - a writer who hated what he saw in the world and voiced ideas that must not be thought - upsetting lots of people by doing so - then becomes the kind old doctor who runs the poor people's clinic

It's because of your work, that I get to quote several poets to others as my inspirations. As for Celine, I haven't read his work, but I have a soft spot for madmen who vent.

Well I'm very glad to be of assistance! And for celine, he's probably as mad as they come

I have just discovers Celine and you are opening my eyes to his backstory. In Norway we have a incredible similar story with our great writer Hamsund that also supported hitler and was in cahoots with the occupying forces! Norwegians don’t hide his backstory, but still celebrate his work. I wonder if we would do it if he didn’t win the Nobel price. Great work on this video!

Funnily enough, I originally considered making the video about Hamsun instead of Celine!

I'm just going to say this if I remember correctly yeah there is no one group singled out for his wrath, and I'll say this to go along with it in a world where we still go to church every Sunday despite the horrors inflicted upon little children by Catholic priests I think we can separate the man from the work.

Thanks for the vid. I just started reading "Journey." All I knew about Celine was that he was a French fascist, but I didn't know the particulars. You've tackled a difficult question here; much appreciated.

I gotta say I got pretty tired of that book after a while. For better or worse it has stuck with me but I remember towards the end just rolling my eyes at how narcissistic Celine is
