You know, I'm honestly surprised that Louis Theroux took a moment out of his busy schedule of being a Lovecraftian hivemind to do this. What a guy, am I right?
Always been a big fan of Louis, his ability to come across as very naive always made his subjects drop their guard and reveal more than they otherwise would have. Very clever dude 👌
I agree with that somewhat, but if you've seen his interviews, I'm sure you have, his demeanor is always calm, friendly and approachable. That seems to be his personality, rather than trying to trick his interviewee into opening up. He's has a benevolent personality, which lowers peoples guard.
you're clearly a new Louis fan - if you go back to the old days of him talking to Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish in the pre-netflix days, they were way ahead of the curve
Nah, there are way better documentary makers, and have been his entire career. He's like the McIntyre/CBeebies of the genre, popular but not a great journalist.
@@timmasters1195 this statement is incredibly dismissive of the work theroux has done to turn taboo subjects into popular discussion. personally i don't think there's been a better gonzo journalist for a long time. also comparing him to a comedian and a children's programme just because they're popular is a bit of a dumb take to say the least.
The exec at the Beeb who put his name in the title of his first gig was insightful, the way Louis describes it I can easily picture how it happened along with the thought processes going on. Great interview.
Absolute living legend, was able to access people that would not otherwise open up and all through his beguiling innocent like charm that belies a sharp investigative mind. I like that he name checked Stacey Dooley too, she's cut from the same cloth
I saw Louis on the tube in London recently and was awkwardly gawping at him for a moment as I confirmed it was him and then considered going up and saying something. Let’s hope him looking back at me a few times wasn’t him thinking that scientology was back on him. I’m sure his departure at the next stop was unrelated.
Louis is very clever and has studied political philosophy and understands how circumstances affect individuals so he listens, really listens. He probably helps people improve.
Funny how he was suprised that the BBC wanted to use his name, but seems to have forgotten that his father is a famous writer ... who got famous by writing many bestselling books about going to strange and interesting places and interviewing strange and interesting people ...
But people don’t necessarily link them. They don’t necessarily assume all the famous Theroux’s are related (even though they kinda all are what with Justin Theroux being his cousin and Marcel Theroux being his brother…)
His new podcast is really good, it’s nice he’s producing content in a different manner but still having his great interviewing skills. Hope his eyebrow recovers from his alopecia.
Hip-Hop Connection is something I’ve not heard of for a long time. A long time. I worked on their website. We called it Hip-Op Connection in the office, but mostly when joking about the other chap who worked on the site with me who we affectionately called Grandad.
We know he's brilliant, for sure a national treasure. But I also love how he will raise others up so genuinely, whether its a grime artist or a fellow interviewer.
Last xmas eve I arrvied at my mums for the holidays and she proceeded to make us watch a Louis doco on THE P*RN INDUSTRY for the next few hours. It was the most uncomfortable and funny xmas eve we've had in a while. 😂
I think the closing remark of people he's interviewed being actors in their own drama is a selection bias, they're the ones being interviewed. Lots of people out there that happily take a supporting role, or even a behind the scenes role in life :)
3:01 obviously it’s Loyle Carner, those guys are talented but aren’t even close. Then probably Little Simz. If it’s “of all time” then Roots Manuva has to be in there too.
It wouldn't matter if they tried to take the Westboro kids into care because their whole family are all very powerful lawyers. That's how they've lasted so long.
