Before these videos were out I remember people saying that he had the worst audition cos they only showed him singing like 2 lines of Hey there Delilah. But when these full auditions were out people had a different view and they realised they were wrong. The thing was that he was very nervous and the judges know that once he works on that he'll be great. And another thing was his originality. As Nicole said that Louis has a connection with music and she believes him when he's singing. This one was the most important and none of the other 1d boys got this comment. And the judges were right especially Nicole cos now you can see what an amazing artist Louis is. He is genuine and honest with his songwriting and he means every single word when he's performing a song.
The problem wasn’t his nerves. The problem was that he wasn’t very good at singing. Let’s call a spade a spade. He has definitely improved as a singer since XFactor, but let’s not beat around the bush, his audition was painful to watch.
I'm not sure I have ever gotten through his audition videos without pausing etc, I get secondhand anxiety very easily, and his nerves were PALPABLE! The lore of Louis the elf takes me out every time 😂😂 Thanks for the video!
I really enjoyed this reaction. I think the whole discussion around what the judges, as music professionals, look for and see in contestants, versus what a lay person might latch onto, is fascinating. I'm a proud Louie, but if I'm honest, I probably would've voted no. I would've gotten hung up on his pitch problems. But the judges know what vocal coaching can help with, what effects his nerves (even knowing how the story ends, this video stresses me out!) have on his singing, and what the underlying potential is. I really think what tipped them all to 'yes' was likability, which I don't think can be taught. From the moment he first steps on stage and starts talking, you're rooting for him. Nicole Scherzinger was the first judge to speak after they stopped him during Hey There, Delilah. She starts by saying that Louis looks so defeated, and he responds by saying he knows he can do better and to please just give him a chance. The next thing you hear is the audience giving a loud, collective "awwwww." He had connected with the audience and had them on his side in a very short amount of time. I'm sure plenty of objectively better singers came through, and audience members looked up and said 'yeah, they're good,' and then went back to scrolling through their phones. The judges heard a 'good enough' voice, with potential to get much better, and combined with his likability, that was enough.
The XFactor show is very falsely presented, many past contestants have admitted that they went through a number of rounds before being in front of an audience - they don’t depict it like that for TV though - they really ramp it up for the drama. It’s very likely that Simon at least will have heard Louis sing a number of times and already decided that Louis had the potential to make him a lot of money. P.S I’m in my 40’s and am as smitten with Louis as Ryan is 😂
I had a lot of fun watching this reaction, you guys laughing right at the beginning in Louis' baby way it was really funny! Glad these judges realized he had something, I love Louis songs so much!
And he was the one from the 1D to come back as judge! Sometimes life comes down to that 1 precious minute and no one knows the value of it as much as louis does. He never forgets to be thankful for being able to do what he loves.
Hahaha, we all go AWWW with Baby Louis. And yeah, with as much as I love Louis I would also have said no if this was the first thing I saw of his singing. It wasn't good. Out if the 5 boys it was only Liam I thought was a good audition. But I agree that perfect vocals are not everything. You have to have a connection and Louis comes off as very likeable to me and the one I connected to in the band once I found them. I am very glad the judges gave him that chance. They clearly saw something they could work with. Poor thing was very very nervous. From what he has said in the past he was fighting his nerves on stage a lot. It didn't help that he never got a solo on X Factor and the start of "Louis can't sing" began. He felt useless and like he didn't belong in the group and that's why he later on decided to get so involved with the writing. He wanted to feel he contributed to the band.

If someone had asked me to make a list of a million things I thought I’d hear in my lifetime, “elven vagina” wouldn’t have been on it. 🤣 I agree that he’s so sweet and adorable in this, you just want to give him a hug. I was lucky and got to go to his NYC show in November. 12+ years after this audition, a hug wouldn’t cut it anymore! 😇
What you may not know is that this was Louis' 3rd audition for this show so at least Simon would have known Louis was persistent/passionate and had heard the possibilities two other times. Also Louis' only singing experience was performing as Danny Zuko in grease in high school (do they call it that in England?) so that's why he walked a lot on the stage I'm guessing. The judge's were definitely aware of the extreme case of nerves and were gracious.
Louis W is also the one judge who voted no on Harry. I like Harry, but I’m definitely a bigger fan of Louis, and yet I still don’t quite get why Louis was a yes, while Harry was a no.
Also, it was James Morrison not Jim Morrison from the Doors. James is a British singer-songwriter, sort of alt rock/soul pop. Gorgeous raspy voice. I love his song ‘you give me something’.

James Morrison is a British singer/songwriter. I can hardly bear to watch this audition - he was SO nervous and his performance wasn't great. But they saw something in him, I don't know what, that they could work with. Nicole was particularly kind.
