Hi! Thank you for the very informative video!:) Want to clarify on what you mentioned in the video, comparing the countries in Europe, Italy offers the highest VAT refund? Which part of Rome did you shop at? & Is it cheaper to buy luxury items at Rome airport than in the malls? thank you :)

Hello and thank you for watching 💕 I actually recorded a video on luxury shopping in Europe, I hope to get it out soon but a bit tricky because I’m traveling but hopefully in next few days! To answer your questions short, yes it should give you the higher refund because of higher tax in Italy over other countries but it’s about 3% more and I don’t know how Global Blue will handle it so I wouldn’t count in this BUT airports in Italy give you the best price because it’s literally no tax! In Paris the discount is around 10% and tax there is 20% so obviously they are taking some tax (or shops are making more?). In Rome (and I assume other Italian airports) the discount is 18% which is insane!

Hi! I have a flight flying into naples and leaving florence, but I have a layover in Paris (not leaving thr airport) going home. Can I claim my items in florence airport, or will they make me claim my VAT in paris? I only have a 1 hour 30min layover there. Thank you

Hi Niki! I’m afraid they will make you to do it in Paris because they scan your boarding pass as a proof that you are leaving the EU… if you have your goods in your hand luggage you should be able to do it also after the security (if you don’t collect your luggage in Paris). Check for the Tax refund offices in the map of Paris airport so you are prepared that they have one after the security (usually they do, or should have at least!) If you will have connected flight and have boarding pass to your flight from Paris already in Florence you might try to do it in Italy but I’m not sure if they accept… AND I just flew from Milan yesterday and the queue for ten Tax refund was long (during Covid it was quite fast to get through but now international tourists are back in Europe!) so try to be there as soon as you can. I was fiumicino 2 weeks back, so you tell that if i have boarding pass outside eu they will discount product 18 procent? They might ask your address of stay at the country you leaving to, correct?

So the higher the VAT the better? I’m going to Rome for a few days and then Athens,Greece before I fly back to the US. Wasn’t sure if I have to do it before I leave Rome and then Athens.

Yes in countries which have euro it should give more tax back - in countries not operating in euro they usually put prices up (and blame tax or currency exchange) a bit so you always need to check how it converts to your currency :) You need to collect all your tax refunds in Athens, when you leave Rome to Greece customs won’t stamp your tax free forms because you aren’t leaving the EU. Hi just to confirm, if I buy the item in Milan stores and claim the vat refund at Milan Bergamo airport, is is still cheaper tham buying in Paris (and claim at the cdg airport)? Thanks in advanced

Probably but in this case difference isn’t much, I think it’s probably a couple of % unless it was very expensive and you get 15% refund in Italy (I had a screenshot of the numbers in the video). However, buying on Italian airport would be the best option (cheaper than Paris airport or when claiming VAT back) but look up what stores Bergamo has and if you will be leaving from the terminal which has lux shops :)

I’m not sure if you can on arrival as I always go straight out but I’m sure they would charge you the original price because they check your boarding card while you shop at duty free store - I’ve seen this happening some time ago with alcohol… you are supposed to take the goods outside and if you could do it entering your can give it/sell to local people. But if you can get to the stores on the way in I would go and establish a connection with a sales associate :)

Hi Kiri! Yes it’s cheaper in Rome because the prices in euro are the same but in Italy they actually don’t take the VAT at all so the prices are 18% cheaper but in Paris you get 10% only because in fact they must be paying some tax, smaller but still something. That’s why it’s cheaper in Italy 😁 and if you fly from Rome you need to fly from Fiumicino because as far I know there are no luxury shops on the other Rome’s airport. You can check which shops are there on the airport website;and also on which terminal they are and if your flight is from the same terminal). I have recently been in Milan and they have good luxury shopping there too! In Rome they have LV which isn’t available in Milan, but Milan has YSL which I didn’t see in Rome (in January at least) but go and check on the airport website which shops are there so you are well prepared :) and good luck and have fun in Europe!

Hi!! I’m going to Rome this week for my birthday from the US! Planning to try and do all my shopping at the FCO airport on my way home but wondering if you shop/buy a LV bag at the duty free store, do you still have to go profess VAT at the counter before boarding or do you just go straight to your gate and board the plane? I’m hoping to snag the Odeon PM bag and hoping it’s one they have regularly but will take your advice and call the shop before i leave for Italy! Thank you so much for your videos and information!

Happy birthday to you! 🎉 You will have a lot of fun in Rome! 😍 no if you shop at the e airport you just go staring to the plane 😊 and you can also check if your bag is available on the airport through LV app, you need to search for a boutique in Fiumicino, that’s the Rome’s airport and it doesn’t show it while you search Rome’s boutiques. @@21MC1 hi! I bought a bag from the boutique in the city and did the global blue thing in the city before i left Rome. That one- they said my refund would be €315 but i had it refunded to my credit card. I just checked and i got $298 refund so not sure if the € to $ changed or whatnot. And then i bought a bag at the Rome airport on my way back home and that one was the best deal (i think 20%). It’s whatever the price listed is and you don’t have to deal with any VAT refund stuff. The price listed is what you pay. They box/bag it up and you go straight to your boarding gate for departure.

Hi :) I’m afraid you won’t get into luxury shopping zone on Fiumicino because the local flights are leaving from another terminal.. but also if you don’t have a boarding pass to outside EU destination you can’t get tax free prices. But Paris airport should have great tax free shipping too! Haven’t been there but it’s France! :) Enjoy Europe and all the shopping!!

Im confused.. its the VAT tax return based on the country you exit Europe or the country you purchase the items from?

It’s based on the country you bought the items but if you buy in the EU you claim all of the returns at the last European Union airport which you our flying to non-EU country. So if you shopped in Germany and then you go to Italy and Spain and you leave to the US or UK from Spain you claim all in Spain. If you go to customs in Italy when you fly to Spain for example they won’t stamp it because the goods aren’t leaving the EU so that’s why you get the customs stamps on the last airport but collect invoices in each shop you are shopping. I hope it helps!

No I actually have EU passport :) what they check is the boarding pass on the airport. In some stores you need to provide address (just tell for the form not any official document). In most countries they don’t make problems, actually only my homeland, Poland, usually makes problems 😅 but I have a residency card and driving license so I can prove I’m living outside EU 🙂 Thank you for watching!
