Sorry guys but I've NEVER heard of this lady till now. The song itself is one of my all time faves and she does it total justice I've got to say. Amazing version and true to the original. Gorgeous voice too. Thanks for this upload.
I am taken back not only in time but in memory. Rita Macneil has done well in her rendition of this all time favorite song but here I am with Louise Morrissey with a beautiful rendition and the two are quite unique in their separate ways. Great vocal voices in our time and I am happy to hear them for we all pass this way but once. Thank God!

My favourite cover by a female of this great Canadian tune by Rita McNeil (RIP)! I love this song and LM sings it beautifully!!! I am definitely going to listen to a few more of her offerings! Thanks Gloria for sharing it!

Bet I bet she could sing a telephone directory and turn it into a hit! Aren't we blessed to be gifted with the pleasure of listening to her sing at any time with our CDs and the videos made of the concerts . She has a golden voice enriched by training and practice, As well as professional instrumentalists,, strings, keyboards and percussionists. All very determined to preform and record perfectly. She covers such a broad assortment of topics and because I am now nearly 80 years old. I enjoy Ms. Morrissey, covering a broad variety of subjects ; Young Love, Grandpa Tell me About the Good Old Days, Circles, You Raise Me Up, as well as the beautiful Hallelujah which she sings so impressively. first time i heard this was by a duo Merle and Roy, from wales, and so i got the cassette, i love this song as it is a dedication to coal miners of which my father and brother were miners,

I just went and watched/listened to the late Rita MacNeil's version and I.M.O., Louise and Mary Duff do an equal, if not better version. I especially like Mary Duff's version, because of the backing vocals and instrumentals and of course Mary's beautiful singing voice. Don't take me wrong...Louise has one of the best female voices I've heard in quite some time. God Bless, Jeff :-)
Garvin: Working Man was written and sung by the late Nova Scotian singer Rita MacNeil. You should check out her rendition of it, as well as the cover by Mary Duff. Also, if you ever get a chance to hear it sung by The Men of the Deeps miners' choir from Nova Scotia, don't miss it. John Filliter
I well remember the tragic coal mine disaster in the South Island of New Zealand. This song made me realise, the terrible sadness, many families around the world, have had, losing their hard working loved ones. "Thank you Louise" I love your wonderful voice. Forever...Kiwi fan. xx

rita macneil sings this song with such feeling i can listen and it never cecease to grab me but i must say this version is great i also like david alexanders version the song itself is timeless and a great reminder of all miners who lost there lives in all mining deserter god bless them all
This Lady does a lovely version of Rita's HYMN to Coal Mining. If you ever heard & Saw Rita do this live..........you would understand the Pride We had in OUR songstress. She could command a STAGE. { bare feet & all-hahahaha } Very "down-to-Earth" . Meet Her in the grocery store and you would always get a warm;"Hello Dear" . We loved our RITA here in Cape Breton .
Before I listened to this version I was ready to believe that it wouldn't be as good as Rita McNeil's version but I was very pleasantly surprised. I must listen to more of Louise Morrissey.

Note perfect voice, but it's NOT that special - she has a pleasant delivery, but so do many other "country" singers of this genre. Little evidence of pure soul in her songs ... .... where's the blue note and that "special" turn of musical phrasing ??? Nice song, nice inoffensive voice, but not one of the REAL greats - sorry lads !
