Actually had a message from Louise informing me that this performance was from a new talent show fronted by the comedian Freddy Starr. A bit of Googling reveals ...

The voice of this lady puts down so many pipe music so called singers of today who just because they can howl and screech think they can sing.

This song was playing on the radio early morning. It drifted into my sleep and woke me up. It was the first time i had heard it and it blew my mind. Went to the record shop that same day and brought the LP Midnight Blue which I still have. It is one of my treasured LPs

And me... I'm 65, and I remember this from decades ago. I thought this version of my favourite tune of all times was long lost. So wonderful to find it here. Thank you so much to the person who posted it. It was the lyrics that captured me at first as Binge composed it as purely instrumental. I seem to remember her as a contestant on Opportunity Knocks singing this...not sure.

@@susanleitch8649 Me too, discovered this at 65 years old! Can't believe how I missed this wonderful voice during the 80's as I've enjoyed popular classical music for as long as I can remember. Another excellent vocal version worth a listen is by Suzanne Clachair - she sings the traditional lyrics and has a beautiful voice t'boot 👌😊👌!

I love this song and her "Midnight Blue," which I remember listening to in the '70's! It is such a shame that she is not that well-known, because she had incredible talent and a beautiful voice.

The song Midnight Blue by Louise Tucker was released in 1982 and initially had some popularity in Europe. It didn’t hit the US charts until Summer 1983.

Me too! I know this song from 1988 when my uncle recorded on a tape, but he didnțt write the text and the author. Today when I opened a documentary about Bucharest in which appeared this song-Elizabeth Balade after I found the author I searched a lot on youtube untill I found this song. I use to listen this song since 1988 because itțs wonderful and I am happy that I found the author here!

I chanced to catch this performance on TV all those years ago. It was yet another talent show (the last one I ever bothered watching) - and she had it! I sat transfixed by this gorgeous redhead, and 30 years on she still sounds pure gold. How good to hear to someone with a trained voice doing justice to a lovely English melody. I, too, could listen to this for 100 years; rock on, Louise!

Tis tune means England to me! I am English, but have lived in the US for 40 years now. I used to love the tune when I was "back home" and it strikes me as being so very English. This is a remarkable version--and I think I too, would like it played at my funeral!

Tremendously good voice. I was not "into" pop music in the 1980s. But I have known this wonderful melody (and its oddly named composer) since childhood. It is very well known as an instrumental piece. It is very popular in Germany. It certainly deserves to be revived. Can I think of which singer should "do the honours"? You bet.

Yawnyaman 1508....crikey, what a coincidence, it brought me here too. Saw this live on telly, on the early 80's on some talent show, I think. Was amazed at the voice, and the arrangement, could never find the piece again though. Must find the CD now. Happy memories of great music. Agree with your comments over Tim, what a remarkable guy!!

I don't know if everyone knows but the Elizabethan Serenade was written by Mantovani arranger, accordionist, Ronald Binge who actually developed the signature Mantovani sound.

Quel magnifique déterrage, j'avais abandonné toute idée d'un jour redécouvrir cette chanson dont je ne connaissais ni chanteur, ni compositeur ni interprète. J'écoutais régulièrement" midnight blue " loin d'imaginer qu'elle était cousine de celle-ci. L'a vie est lol
