My brother died of that exact brain cancer. He didn’t eat sugar, he worked on balancing his PH levels, he ate healthy foods and lived another 5 years. I’m so glad he had those extra years!
I lost à sister to this same cancer. She didn't last more than a few weeks after the diagnosis; though she didn't want to go the hospital for weeks when she started having symptoms ( falling down for no reason etc.) Glad you got those years together.
My brother was diagnosed with the same cancer and passed about 3 months from diagnosis. His wife died from the same thing a few years before him and also his best friend. With SO much of this condition, there Has to be a common denominator!
I am quite alone and fought different cancers three times..how I envy him for this wonderful family,all the love he gets..but I fight my battle ..I get the energy from my ability to see the good side not suffer too long when things go wrong,and my friends and animals just today I got the CT and MRT results..so far cancerfree for now
I hope he gets to live to see his son get married and have his family 🙏. I know how hard it is. I fought for 10 years with little hope, and now live a happy life.
My Brother Ralph was diagnosed with GBM at 50 the doctors said he had less than two years he made it four years and passed away when he was 54 . It has been one of the hardest things I 've had to endure. You have a turn in this life and it's that simple . So this is a good story for all of us. Peace out.
My God, I’ve not been so touched by something, especially an unknown family in YEARS!! Last year, a beautiful young lady I’ve known since childhood, died, the exact same thing and she was so full of life. Her life had meaning most of us could only hope to have yet she’s gone. GOSH THIS HAS TOUCHED ME!! I want to say you’ve all reached my heart, inspired me and made me want to make some major shifts in my own life. Cheers to sixty more years to this beautiful family.
He's getting up there into the exceptional category of survival with GBM. My first husband died 12 weeks after diagnosis and surgery for GBM debulkment, at age 30, in 1989. Prayers as the fight continues. 🙏
It’s not a miracle. It’s lots of money and exceptional first hand medical care from his dad and his brother. Thankfully, this guy has no delays in his medical care like the rest of us do.
What a wonderful family and a wonderful story. My brother was diagnosed with a Stage IV glioblastoma in 2016. His wasn't operable and he lived for 6 months. Many blessings to you and your entire family.
I am so sorry for your loss. My brother was diagnosed with Stage IV as well in May 2009. His tumor was inoperable as well. He passed in September 2009 leaving behind a wife and 11 year old daughter and 7 year old son. Life has never been the same.
A beauitful story!!! I experienced a similar experience at age 27. I had doctors at Mount Sinai, Sloan and Cornell Hospital (some of the best 3 hospitals for AML Leukemia in the WORLD) tell me I had arouns 6 months to live, and to arrange my hospice care. All three opinions gave me 6 months. I arranged my hospice care, priced and planned funeral costs, had talks with my mother. By chance, I met a different doctor at Mount Sinai who told me she saw my past as a sign I was a real survivor in my heart So here I am, age 32, in remission with a transplant my body 100% accepted, now dealing with all the side effects of treatment but- HERE spending time with my family planning my graduate degree studies!
Many persons, doctors included, tend to discount the power of belief a patient may have in their body's ability to heal, first and foremost! My mother died 5 months after her diagnosis of GBM. The surgeries were super intrusive. A lot of damage was done to her brain function. Bless him and his family. He is definitely a miracle.
I'm happy for him and his family, I myself have been fighting T-4 bladder cancer since October 5th 2018, when the doctors told me I had 1.5 years to live. I said NO to chemotherapy and radiation treatments as well as major surgery. I only let them remove the tumor. October 5th 2023 will be five years, have I beat it? or cured it? I don't know, but I'm still here.
You may have done the right thing. Time weill tell. My father had massive amounts of chemo and radiation. He made it 5 years longer than they anticipated and in the end the treatment was what helped bring him down There is a time and place for everything. Listen and follow God. Blessings to you.
I lost my Dad(6 months) and my sister(13 months) to this horrible disease. He is by far one of the lucky ones. Just an FYI - MD Anderson is doing an experimental treatment using polio to try to break through the blood barrier to fight this disease. My sister and our family reminded me of John. She was such an amazing person and it was devastating to our family to watch her die.
kinfauth9542 that clinical trial with the live polio virus was closed quite a while ago. It showed some hope but then it failed. I know this because I lost my Mother to Glioblastoma in 2020. My own oncologist told me about the trial fail.
At 65, my dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma and given 2-4 months to live. He lived 6 years. After his diagnosis, I, of course, googled any survivors and found a few, one of which was 27 years outside his diagnosis. SO, there IS hope. There's always hope. I'll be sending my prayers John's way for at least another 30 years for him, and by that time, maybe we'll have a cure. ❤
My dad passed away 20 years ago from GBM and I've always wondered what medical advances have been done to improve the survival rate of this painful debilitating disease. This story gives me hope for the following generations that are diagnosed with this GMB. As someone who has gone through this process, I'm so incredibly happy for him and hope to see a follow up story.
I'm sorry for your dad... I don't think there are many radiation - chemo advances in the last 20 yrs. There r clinical trials & experimental treatments. Certain diets have been trending some more than 20 yrs ago.
Inspiring story. My sis is going through a debilitating illness right now. Then she unexpectedly had to have brain surgery. As a large, close family, we would have picnics, go to movies... You drop everything to please the ill member of your family. Anything to make it better for them. Love gets you through alot.

Beautiful story. A lesson in living. One complaint though: “The lesson is the doctors can be wrong.” Of course doctors can be wrong-for instance if they misdiagnose someone, but that’s not what happened here. The problem with this “lesson” is that no doctor said to him “you will be dead in four months” (or whatever). What I heard was that the five-year survival rate is 5 %; ok, John is in that 5 %. How were the doctors wrong? He had access to the finest medical technology, leaned on his faith and had a positive and grateful attitude, a combination that I believe improved his odds, and thankfully, he is alive thus far, six years in. May he have many more.
All good points. A desire to live along with a positive attitude have been shown to have an effect on the body’s fighting and healing functions, since stress can suppress it. It’s almost as if the mind directs where the resources in the body should go.
Telling someone they have “x” months left is a tactic healthcare will use to encourage people. For example, we know someone will live a good 12-18 months and might tell the patient they have 3 to 6 months, so when they past those 3 to 6 months, it gives the person this sense of invincibility. Their quality of life improves and they feel like they beat something that unbeatable. The truth though, we never really know.
My dad was diagnosed in July and gone by October that year. It is really dependent on when they find it and where in the brain it is. Being younger also helps with healing and recovery. Glad to see a young dad fighting the good fight.
I knew someone with glioblastoma; she lived with it, until she passed on. Love, family and community work wonders. Let's not forget though, the added exposure to nature, fresh air, and the healing power generated by "forest bathing." All together, so inspiring to see that healing is not limited to his beating the odds; he changed his lifestyle. May he life long, and prosper.
My uncle just got diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer. I don’t know how his wife or his 4 kids are even breathing right now. I don’t think I would be. He is the kindest person I’ve ever met and you’d say the same if you ever came across him. Why is it always the loveliest people? I don’t know how long he has, he’s started treatment a couple of days ago. Thank you for sharing this story so I don’t feel so alone in this.
There is no one single cause of cancer, but many. There are also so many different kinds of cancer and each requires its own protocols for treatment, and even those vary from person to person. We do understand the hows and whys of cancer pretty well now, but of course there's always much more to learn. It's unlikely we'll ever completely prevent or eradicate cancer from developing because of the nature of cell division and how many different triggers factor into its pathology, but I do think we'll eventually get to a point where it may no longer be a life-threatening condition. Here's hoping, anyway.
My beautiful, loving, caring mom was diagnosed with glioblastoma 20 years ago. She bravely fought for nine months before we lost her. I miss her every day. ❤
My father was diagnosed in 1979 and given 6 months. He was 41. We were blessed to have him over 5 years because only God determines when its our time to go home. May God heal you fully and grant you decades more with your precious family. Be well.
My cousin was diagnosed with Stage 4 8 years ago and is still living a functional life. Not the usual outcome but we are grateful. He also had the gamma knife radiation and surgery.
In reality, what probably helped him was having access to the best health care, as he comes from a prominent family who is wealthy and had a brother and father who were in medicine. Access and wealth are key to getting the best care. I know ppl with means hate that ppl bring up their privilege and rather say that it is down to their "faith", but the reality is it is very important to have access, privilege and wealth.
Very true . Many of these inspirational stories about traveling the world or doing all kinds of things..to "live" and make every day count ..would not be possible for many of us or even to afford natural options or traditional options. I m sure the simple lifestyle changes did help..being outside being more active..giving up a high stress job choosing gratitude
Completely agree I bet he completely changed his diet too gotta love how all of this is left out of his story like love is what saved him. Don’t get me wrong your mindset is a huge part of it so is a good supportive family but just as equally important is the health care he received and diet exercise. I can almost guarantee he drastically changed his diet and did fasting during treatment
Sorry but cancer does not care how privileged you are… the best medical care (and my sister had it)… did not save her from a rare, aggressive cancer. This is so insulting. I have also seen poor people in a very elite cancer hospital have first access to clinical trials… you can make everyday count by living simply. Why make these awful envy based comments. His “privileged’ life will still be shortened… cancer returns and kills.
Impressive!!! My daughter is 11 years into her GBM journey. Even with reoccurrences and losing part of her skull and with scalp revision. 0.7 % survival rate at ten years so we a blessed as a family❤. Stay strong!

My dad passed away from GBM many years ago. He only made it a year and four months after his diagnosis. He was elderly. At the time he had two surgeries, radiation, chemo, and brachytherapy. This story gives us all a glimmer of hope that some can still beat the odds.
I’m so happy he had the resources to get the best possible care. He had great family support. That is such a blessing. I hope he continues to live a healthy life for his wife and son.
What an incredible story. This kind of brain cancer is no joke. One of the worst if not the worst out there. It's so aggressive and moves so quickly. We just lost our very best friend of over 30 years to this particular cancer. He left behind a wife of over 25 years and a beautiful 23 year old daughter. By the time he was diagnosed, his tumor was the size of a lime and he was beginning to have memory loss and confusion. He'd been feeling off for about two days and decided to go to the urgent care clinic. He wasn't making sense when he talked and didn't know basic things like what day it was. Within two weeks of being diagnosed, he could no longer communicate, except for one word or phrase now and again, or walk on his own. By the end he was totally wheelchair bound and couldn't talk or feed himself. It all happened within a few short months. It was insane to watch him go from seemingly normal to literally unable to speak or walk in just a few days. It's like the symptoms all came on at once. His neurosurgeon said that happens sometimes. Rather than things getting progressively worse, it all hits at one time. But they said his tumor had likely been growing for a year, maybe even two. Just crazy he had no symptoms until it was so far along. I hate that it was too late for our best friend, but I LOVE that this man is doing so well. I sincerely hope they really study his case and we can see more treatment options within the next several years. He is truly one in a million. I don't know of anybody who survived more than a few months, a year MAX. Six years is just totally unheard of. And the fact that his tumor didn't just get smaller, but he's showing NO cancer? That's absolutely wild. What a beautiful story and a wonderful family. I hope he has many more happy years with his wife and those precious kiddos, and that he's cancer free for the rest of his life. And that in my lifetime this particular cancer is no longer a death sentence for the vast majority of patients. I want every cancer story to end like this one ❤️
My uncle lost his life to glioblastoma last year. He lived 18 months from his first diagnosis. It really changed his whole personality. The tumor made him angry and violent, until they removed some of it. Sadly, he leaves behind a wife and two teenage daughters.
So happy to see this...I watched through tears..I lost my mom to GBM in 2004...we buried her just 5 short weeks after her diagnosis. I wish John continued good health.
My brother Dave had Faith, Family and a Glioblastoma. Diagnosed 03/10/2004 Died 07/23/2004...💔 My best Friend, my loving brother..Don't ever make someone believe that if they don't have a similar outcome, it's because their Faith wasn't strong enough, it's just not true.
I lost my only sister in 2010 to a Glioblastoma. She passed in only ten weeks. I agree, don’t ever say their Faith wasn’t strong enough, it’s not true. Only God knows the reason why some are healed here on earth and others when they enter Heaven’s gates. I will see her again.
You are so right! I took care of many very faithful patients with GBM, one of whom was a priest. No difference in outcome comparing to non-religious patients (my experience). Not to take away the power of prayer, but there s a multitude of other factors influencing patient's prognosis.
@@freethinkeralways yes. People always love to diminish or disprove the possibility of God by proclaiming that if He exists surely He would cure the ills of all believers and He wouldn't allow bad things to happen... He simply doesn't work that way.
This is incredible. My husband died exactly 33 years ago today from Glioblastoma grade 4. He was given 60 days and lived for 15 months. I know it was from love and that's what this story is about. Blessings to them!! 💓💓
My first husband was diagnosed with GBM back in 1992. He had surgery, had rehab, had to learn to walk again, and had memory issues, but he lived for 8 years more. He wasn't suppose to live, but he did. He got to the point where he could work a small job. His memory got better and things were looking up, then the GBM came back and he eventually died. Our son was 7 years old in 1992, and he was able to have 8 more years with his father, so this is a blessing. Never give up! There is always hope. 😇
My dad had stage 4 lung cancer for 8 years. (Non smoker.) 6 of those years he had a good quality of life. I miss you dad! I hope this man lives many many more years.
Beautiful story - as a cancer patient - with stage four lobular metastatic breast cancer - I totally agree with the philosophy of living each day as though it were my last. Love of family and friends, eat, exercise and be the best self possible has been key to my celebration of one year out from being diagnosed 💞🙏💞
My husband died from the same and made it to 18 mos. which we were so grateful for because our 3 boys were in elementary school at the start of our journey. They were all 3 in middle school when he passed. This man and his wife took this journey the best way with up front honesty including their son in the planning for living their best family life until….One day their son will look back and appreciate his place in that process. Wish we had the courage to have make that decision. Trying too hard to shield our children from life’s challenges can defeat it’s purpose. It cheats us out of experiences that are so very valuable in making us productive and balanced human adults.

This is a beautiful story! My ex husband was diagnosed on May 31, 2021. He barely talks now and I am grateful that our children continue to make memories with him.
My brother died from this at age 44. Lived about 9 months. So good to know that someone is surviving this, And they give hope and help to others going through this.
Having money to afford the best medical treatment also plays a major part on how long you are going to live if you have cancer. If you don't have lots of money or good medical insurance, don't expect the best medical treatment or to live long. It's the sad reality. The poor have to go to those medical school learning hospitals for treatment. Hospital foundations don't help just any person, and it gives them a tax break. I lost a relative, and I was witness to the flaws in the medical system and the inequalities.
I bet you this man has also done drastic diet changes too getting a job that is physically demanding probably had financial resources having a great support system it is literally the difference between getting better and not
Recently a friend was visiting a friends brother in the hospital and the doctor literally came in and asked him what day he wanted to die…😳 I guess that’s Trumpcare 🫤
My dad had this. Stage 4 and about the size of a base ball when discovered. He had no symptoms really. Till 1 day it all went downhill . He got 1 year before he passed. I’m so happy this family didn’t get the same outcome as me and many others. It’s a heartbreaking experience. I would never wish it upon anyone. Wish this family nothing but happiness and good health!!❤

Wow wow wow. Every bad thing that could happen did and he still came through. I know what this feels like to be up against it in a situation where you are told with certainty, that the person will die...that one being my daughter. Happy for his family. We lost my LH at 52 in 2021 after a 11 1/2 month battle. I pray one day more families can have this miracle happen! Keep living strong!!

What a wonderful story, I pray he has many more cancer free years. He's fortunate to have two physicians in his family who can keep an eye on his health. My mother died from GBM 22 years ago, 6 months to the day after she was diagnosed.
