i think Lestat's: "stay down, chéri, i don't want to fight you like this" is one of the most well delivered lines in the entire series thus far, so heart wrenching. Sam Reid is amazing!!

I just realized that Claudia never saw Lestat's face after they went into the coffin room. He's in shadow to her the entire time, she couldn't see how bloodied and beaten his face was.

There was never any blood on his face. Lestat is pure drama just the way he walks. You think in his retelling he wouldn’t embellish his face being bloody, & Louis starting with him.

@@NiyahNybut Louis did slam his head into the coffin which cause all the blood. You see the dent in the coffin later. Neither are fully reliable and Louis going ape shit after Lestat just choked their daughter is reasonable.

I love that the scene from season 2 provided more context for season 1, but it didn’t really change the story! Lestat still initiated the violence against Claudia, then went overboard with his violence towards Louis. We already know that Louis isn’t the “perfect victim” (he fights back physically and uses his words to cause emotional damage because of the power imbalance), but he’s certainly not a liar (maybe just small details) and Lestat has already admitted his guilt for breaking Louis. It’s fun piecing this story together from a known liar, an unreliable narrator with memory issues, and 70 year old diaries.

I feel like that scene was suppose to give you a better understanding on why lestat acted the way he did towards Louis when they finally got up stairs and Louis started saying all that stuff ( Louis not in the wrong ) Because he told lestat that he would stay with him and be happy if he saved the girl ( mind u lestat takes this SERIOUSLY 💀) , but now he’s over here choosing to leave with a girl he said he wouldn’t do😭 + plus talking about wanting to kill him so bad and laughing when he does.😭😭

@@roxirock5455 Louis got damn cruel. He said the worst stuff to Lestat who was really trying not to engage. But he lost it when Louis said all that awful stuff. And he just so happens to be incredibly powerful. They were both awful in this scene but we got to see more of the real Louis. Louis always paints himself as an innocent victim in his version but he wasn't. It was just a toxic relationship.

@@IndieRockerHippyI agree that Louis was cruel, but so was Lestat towards Claudia. Lestat might have been trying not to engage, but he still did. And it's worth pointing out how he is the one who started the violence by choking Claudia. He only showed restraint and consideration towards him, not her. If my partner hit my child I'd do the same as Louis did. Louis can't really hurt Lestat physically so he results to emotional damage. And Lestat said things just as bad to Claudia, if not worse. And even Lestat admits just how bad he hurt Louis and how once he got a second chance from him he didn't actually change. He remained the same person who, when hurt or insecure, abuses the people in his life.

Watching these scenes has never been easy, but damn, I am always in awe of how Bailey is just another level here. There is so much going on, yet her acting presence commands you to always focus on her 👏🏼👏🏼❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Sam Reid is an awesome actor, but im gonna show major love to Jacob Anderson. I understand Lestat is the favorite & Sam plays the role to perfection, but Jacob is doing a hell of a job playing Louis. Jacob & the creators add so many layers to Louis's character. The scenes where he threatened to chop Lestat's head off were scary good 👍🏽. Shout out to Jacob for making this character come to life.

Exactly. Lestat might be begging Louis to stop but when Louis doesn’t it’s not like lestat incapacitates him. When he drops him it’s out of anger, it’s a retaliation against Louis.

I wouldn't call it a comparison because in S1 it was just what Claudia saw, and in S2 it's the missing scenes where Claudia wasn't in the same room as Louis and Lestat. So this would probably be called the full picture. Lestat attacks Claudia, Louis gets Lestat off her, Lestat hits Louis. [new info: Louis fights back against Lestat and threatens to leave him.] Lestat drags Louis out of the house, flies up and drops him. Nothing much changes, cos there's still no excuse for what Lestat did. Even Lestat breaks from the script and said that he broke Louis and didn't deserve his forgiveness.

I agree, I think people want to paint Lestat as this misunderstood hero too much and the thing is he’s done bad things in the show like characters like Louis. People don’t realize they can like the character and still realize he’s not a good person either. No matter what, he was wrong in this situation and even says so himself. The problem comes down to Louis and Lestat never having an equal relationship. He was always more powerful and in this situation used it and regretted it

I always think about how in Louis's version Lestat barely had a scratch, making it seem like he had been completely helpless against lestat, which makes sense because he often took responsability away from himself when talking about moments like this

Yes, but this part of the show was from Claudia’s perspective not Louis. So Claudia is the one who sees it as Louis being helpless, and Lestat sees it as an equal fight until he looses his temper. We might never get an unbiased perspective of that scene due to the way the show is shot in a witness testimony style.

@paycunha6092 We only saw parts of the fight that Claudia saw. The sad thing is that Lestat was protecting them. Vampire culture is a cruel and harsh world. Claudia is physically weak, and Louis is mentally weak. They wouldn't fit in the old world. That old Romanian vampire. Yes, she lost all of her coven members, and the blood had a negative effect on her. But she was also part of the old world. She wouldn't be able to make that switch. Louis and Claudia couldn't adjust to the rules of the old ways.

It bothers me that LeStat didn't apologize to Claudia. I haven't read the books, but on the show, he said some unforgivable things to her as well as choked her, and stopped her from leaving.

In the book the ‘trial’ is kinda different, it’s more private in the back of the stage and Lestat is actually a hostage (though Louis and Claudia don’t know that), the guy was basically drained of most of his blood and looked like a rotting corpse and was barely there mentally (basically how he is at the end of season 2) and was manipulated by the coven to say Claudia and Louis did awful things to him. He doesn’t really get to say anything to Claudia with the coven around and doesn’t get to see her death, he’s basically in the same place as Louis in that scene

This is not a comparison because both those scenes happened. The episode 7 season 2 scene, aka the coffin scene, is the missing scene that Claudia couldn't see in episode 5 season 1 because she wasn't in the room with Louis and Lestat. This scene in season 1 was told through Claudia's diary. So the entire scene went down this way: Lestat chokes Claudia. Louis defends her. Lestat beats Louis downstairs. Claudia tries to stop Lestat beating Louis and is thrown away. Both go to the coffin room. Claudia stays outside. Louis fights back. Lestat snaps. Lestat drags Louis by the throat in the courtyard. Lestat drops him from the sky. Louis is completely broken when he hits the ground. Claudia runs to Louis to assist him.

I agree with you, because there's no way Claudia could know the things that was said between Louis and Lestat, while they were in the sky, she wasn't there, so these are Louise interpretation, or miss guided information that he put into the books are told to Daniel, everything that we saw did not come directly from Claudia's books. Just like she wasn't in the coffin room so she didn't hear everything that was said. It's also crazy how I her telling she has Least looking like he didn't have a scratch on him. It's always been clear that Louis was her favorite and she she wrote it the was sh did because she saw Least as being the bad guy. The one time Louis truly attempted to discipline her, she decides to up and leave. The whole thing was Louis fault, because whenever Least tried to set boundaries and rules Louis just let her get away with anything. Louis never actually backed him up on disabling. Yeah there we're times when Least may have been too harsh but Louis should have worked with him more because she needed strong perentals guidance. Least was the strong father figure she needed Louis was that soft mom that let her do whatever she wanted.

Still suffering and in pain every.single.day. for 20 years. This scene soothes my psyche in a strange way. I fantasize there had been room for remorse in my toxic narcissist. But as film Claudia puts it, "I haven't tears enough for what you've done to me."

I hate how people are like “i believe season 2 more” in way that implies to me that they don’t believe in the abuse that both louie and claudia faced and that’s kinda fucked up or to imply they did things to “deserve it” it’s toxic to say that even about fictional characters. I think Lestat is a fascinating character but this was fucked up sam Reid himself said in that interview a couple of interviews. That doesn’t mean that Louie hasn’t done shitty things either because this isn’t the first time Lestat had put his hand on claudia’s neck and louie was being a bystander before because in claudia’s own words “love makes you stupid” So much of the cast in interviews get annoyed in how yall pick sides in a show were all the characters are amoral af.

I don't think the cast get annoyed. It's very common to have a favourite character and to like one more than others. Doesn't mean you're saying they're perfect or don't have flaws. Personally, Lestat is my favourite character but he has been since I read the books 15 years ago. I know he's a monster sometimes but I love him and all his complexities and contradictions. And so does Sam Reid. He's said multiple times that he roots for Lestat and he loves him etc. Again that doesn't mean he's saying Lestat is perfect.

I dressed up as Lestat for Halloween last year because of how awesome he is (both the actor and the character) plus this is my favorite tv series. Sam’s acting is phenomenal, I swear this show needs more awards. The mixing of the same scenes from either season so far is amazing and just shows how storytelling can change so much (Sorry, I’m on the spectrum, my writing isn’t the best)

I always felt like season 1 was heavily influenced from Claudia's perspective. We see a child perspective of living in a very broken home. Yes, Louis is telling it but the impact Claudia has had over the choices he had made I believed were painted around her. It is a subtle way of her living on through his memories.

It was her diary that was being read. A lot of season 1 is seen from her perspective, Louis just commented on certain parts. So we got Louis, an unreliable narrator, Claudia, another unreliable narrator, and Daniel trying to piece together the full picture from their perspectives (He's very shrewd, and I'm very impressed with him). Louis didn't say anything about this during the first season, and Daniel was reading what she witnessed. In season 2, I believe Louis corroborated LeStat's version, which, from what we're seeing, didn't actually contradict Claudia 's, she can only hear Louis's thoughts and write what she saw. She didn't see LeStat's injuries, and didn't know what Louis said to him. Louis, not a perfect victim, not even close. Love him though. 🥺🥲

I love Lestat so much. He's not perfect but the fact that hes clearly broken about how things between him and Louis and Claudia says a lot. Deep down he still has love for them both. And I dont think he'll ever get over Louis. Which just makes their story all the more heartbreaking 🥲💔

It's still abuse even if the victim fights back. And it was Lestat that started the violence when he choked Claudia. Good on Louis for defending her, even if it changes later. One of the few examples where he prioritized her.

They're both emotionally and physically abusive, but LeStat is certainly the more abusive one. Totally oblivious to everything Louis suffers from. Racism? Just get over it boo! Your mom hates you? Get over it! Claudia leaves? Get over it! I say we're in an open marriage but secretly, I want it to be open from my end only, so like, get over it! I loved every second they were on screen though. Holy sh!t 😂 Also, Jacob Anderson, my gosh! What a terrific actor. When I watched thrones I just figured well, he's pretty. In frame with Emilia Clarke and Nathalie Emmanuel, that looked like HBO saying "Look how we searched far and wide to get this pretty AF cast". But my God, the range this guy has. 👏👏👏

Both versions are more or less true. Lestat beat Louis. Louis beat Lestat and used words to hurt him. Then Lestat dragged Louis outside and dropped him from the sky. None of the second POV of these events excuses what Lestat did and how badly he hurt Louis. The only thing this clarifies is that they are BOTH abusive to each other, which we kind of already knew. Louis is not as much of a victim as he makes himself out to be. They're both toxic AF.

Louis is an unreliable narrator. The truth is definitely closer to the second one, and the proof overall is in his admittance of his lie of omission about Claudia’s turning. In his point of view he paints himself out to be a better person than he actually was. He leaves out all of the info that tells the truth about his character at the time. That’s the point. A bias. And we got admittance of his negative (ofc very minimal in comparison to Lestat’s part, and overall not his fault) part in his and Lestat’s relationship. It was my understanding that in the end of S2, Louis admitted that Lestat wasn’t as insane as Louis tried to make him out to be.

Definitely closer to the second one is the truth. We know that’s Louis lied (by omission) about Claudia’s turning to make himself out to be more of the good guy, and that’s exactly what he did here.

They're both true. Claudia just didn't know what happened in the coffin room cos she wasn't there. So we only got those blanks filled in with Lestat in season 2. But if you listen to the scene in season 1 you can hear Lestat saying "please I don't wanna fight like this. I'm trying very hard to restrain myself". So we know he's not lying about what happened in the coffin room. Also, the dent from where Louis slammed Lestat's head into the coffin is visible in season 1

Both. It's simply that the perception of expressions are different, sort of. The example that I like is from the comparison when Louis is begging Lestat to turn Claudia: In S1 Lestat's "a daughter!?" looks contemptuous; in S2 Lestat's "a daughter!?" looks heartwarming. Depending on who's POV, the expressions can be varied. This is what I think is the underlying basis for the significant "differences". Also, I don't think that Claudia "intentionally" left it our her book that Lestat's face was bloody, as in she decided not to write it. Because that was never Claudia's way of writing. She always told HER truth. What happened. Because she had no reason to assume that anyone would read it, first, and also that it simply wasn't her style of journaling. I simply think, at the time, she was less concerned about Lestat to even focus on his face, or even care to see.
