The plaintiff purchased a leather couch from the defendant, but the seat cover started to peel off. The plaintiff was told it was a leather blend and feels deceived, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant insists the plaintiff purchased a real leather couch but was told up front it was a leather blend. The defendant argues he also offered to fix the couch for free.

OMG - the defendant is such a sleezy salesman. When JM asked him if it was leather, the defendant stated it was leather twice before he followed up and said "bonded leather". I have no doubt he never stated it was "bonded leather" to the plaintiff. His own ad doesn't even state bonded leather, and he blamed it on a typo. I hope he's out of business by now because he has no ethics.

Interesting case. What many people may not realize is that fluctuating temps can affect the fake leather. If it gets too warm or humid, the pleather can break down quicker.

At first I thought because of the time passed from the purchase date it would make it moot, but after getting into the case the defendant absolutely scammed the plaintiff (with attitude plus no clue what bonded leather was so he could never convey that to customers). Good call

These days it's almost impossible to get "real" leather. There's "bonded leather", "vegan leather" (PVC), "stretch leather" (PVC/spandex), etc. often referred to as "leather".

In the past I purchased some parsons chairs that I too thought was leather.... they were junk, not worth paying any money for.... they were bonded leather.... good lesson for me, I had never heard of bonded leather.

NOT LEATHER Bonded leather is a man-made material that's made from 10-20% genuine leather scraps mixed with a polyurethane binder. The scraps are turned into a pulp and attached to a paper or fiber backing, then coated with polyurethane and embossed to resemble real leather.

Same thing with ordered real leather purses and they turn out to be real 'pleather'. The 'p' is omitted and it fools people. I ordered a 'real' leather purse from Amazon and it turned out to be real pleather. I returned it and got a refund. Watch out, people! Looks can be deceiving as well as the 'real' descriptions.

Agree the customer was mislead. Still, 100% leather for that price? No. We bought a leather sofa for our den 15 years ago; paid $5000. then. It’s only gotten softer. You get what you pay for!

The name is deceptive, a marketing term used for a product that looks like leather but isn't leather.. it should be illegal to use the term.. leather doesn't bond, it gets stitched, or in shoes for instance it can be glued together sometimes... but few pieces will never bond to show a smooth uninterrupted surface... glad they got their money back! Hopefully next time they buy a proper leather Sofa.. good quality ones should last a lifetime.

You aren’t going to get a genuine full leather couch (sectional with recliner) for that price. However, no couch, even cheap, should fall apart like that so quick. Edit: just watched it all the way through and I think she was wrong on this one. They used the couch for two years and should have received depreciated value.
