Love can be lost and found 

Wow! May I ask what took place in those 25 years? Did you think about him? How did you both get get back in contact?

We both married other people. Can't speak for him, but I realized early on that I shouldn't have married the one I did. I never forgot about BF#1. Many years later (25), I was going to a conference near where he lived and I wrote a letter just to say "I hope you're well; I hope you're happy; I'd really like to see you'. By that time, both of us were divorced. It was the best thing I ever did to have written to him.

I don't think the romantic type of love is special. And I am started to think that the romantic type of love isn't real. I mean about more than half of romantic couples either break up with each other or divorce each other, while most platonic best friends remain friends until death. I think that having a platonic best friend is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse is. Having someone who's like a sibling to you is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse. Also, you are more likely to be much more closer to someone who's like a brother or sister to you than you would be with a romantic partner or spouse. People tend to fight with their partner or spouse a lot more than they do with a platonic best friend, and you never fight with your best friend the way you fight with your partner or spouse. Partners and spouses are just temporary. If you break up or divorce them, it's hard to go back to them. With your platonic best friend, you're going to make things work, because they are your best friend, they are your go to partner. It's always easier to make amends with them than it is with a romantic partner or spouse. Romantic relationships are pointless, while platonic relationships are necessary.

Things really do happen for a reason. You sure didn't realise it at the time but that argument turned into your wedding card. Things that can't happen early in life doesn't mean they can't happen many years later. You both had to go through failed marriages 1st in order to meet again 25 years later. Call this destiny

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Back in the '80s I was 16 and he was 21 when he broke my heart. In 2004 I found him again and he's been my long-distance best friend through everything since. Two years ago, he told me he doesn't want to live without me and he's finally convinced we will spend the rest of our lives together. But we are on opposite ends of the country due to our boys, and it feels like he's given up. Your story will really make me think.

Obviously it was big mistake being single in high school, now I have a "problem" of not regreting for anyone...

First, never be a stalker. Does this person know you love them? Have they shown interest, ever asked you out? If so, feel free to let them know you are interested, if not then never and I mean never persue a guy who has not shown interest in you. Pick your sweet self up and move on. Do not cast your pearls before swine. I met the guy who set the standard when I was 13, he was swimming in a stinky irrigation ditch. That was over 50 years ago.
