What was your favourite episode in Season 3? And does it top any episode in Volume 1or 2? Zima Blue and Beyond The Aquila Rift are two tough ones to beat....

Not sure I agree with you understanding of Jibaro. I think the soldiers are the invaders, driven by greed and glorified by their religion. They are punished, for their sins. Deaf solder was greedy, they first thing he noticed and pocketed is a golden scale. When he was unaffected, it intrigued the siren, she might also think/believe he is pure of heart, as he was unaffected by her song. He tricked her and robbed her.

Torrin was not the captain. He was likely the first mate or some other secondary position. The captain was eaten..which is why he had to get the gun key from the Thanopod.

I really liked volume 3! I hate that some people are giving the less funded films hard critcism. Remember guys that these studios worked so hard on their projects and every shortfilm is a proof of both skill, dedication. They are not necessarily here trying to invent the wheel. I hope Love Death + Robots gets many more seasons so we are able to enjoy diverse story telling and animation.

My favorite was a Bad Traveling. It was so intriguing and terrifying, had me glued from start to finish with a brilliant ending . I actually really liked Mason’s Rats , it was funny and sympathetic. I liked how it ended . Overall a great season, probably my favorite one

I personally loved the mini one. Was distinctly unique, was amusing and didn't overstay its welcome. Episodes like this nicely punctuate the heavier episodes. Deserved higher than 9th in my opinion.

I took "night of the mini dead" very differently than you did. To me it is the most effective visualization of how much we humans overestimate our own importance that I have ever seen.

Jibaro and Bad Travelling are both tied for top place for me, for entirely different reasons. Bad Travelling is a grim gory Lovecraftian horror tale on the high seas that could easily be a feature-length movie. Jibaro is peak Love Death + Robots in that it's abstract, steeped in metaphor, visually stunning, and pure art.

Man.. kill team kill was hilarious lol.. really underrated episode, i can feel the incredible passion behind it.. its like bunch of kids in 90s who's in middle school work on it. Love it.

To me, Bad Travelling is one of those Stories that really nails the coffin as a Hit. It's Dark, Scary, suspenseful and Thrilling. Taking segments from the Lovecraftian element, it really makes it feel like a Lovecraftian story. Troy Baker NAILED Torrins character. An Anti-Hero Protagonist who is willing to do anything to save innocent lives from peral by doing the deeds that others may see Cold-Blooded and Horrifying. But if it meant the safety of Phaiden Island and its people, it must be done. This made me feel horror unlike anything I have ever watched. No jumpscares or cue-ups to moments that make you shiver, just the atmosphere, plot and twists. And David Fincher, the director of MANY masterpieces (Fight Club, Se7en, and the game) was directing this, which made this episode 10 times better than it usually was. A 100/10 Episode. Great Writing, Direction, Voice Acting, Animation and visuals.

To tell you the truth, I interpreted Jibaro a little differently. The soldier "Jibaro" gets lost to his group at the beginning and his fellow soldier has to bring him back, which suggested to me that he was in a place he didn't know. His outfit is also kinda reminiscent of the Spanish conquistadors who committed atrocities against the indigenous people in South America for gold. The Golden Siren only begins to sing after Jibaro takes one of the golden scales from her lake and hides it from his fellow warriors. I think her song was meant for Jibaro because he 'robbed' her, not the other men. But in the end they all die. When she fails to drown Jibaro, she becomes intrigued and tries to seduce him. But Jibaro only has eyes for the gold that the Golden Siren is wearing. Before they kiss, he rips another Scale from her and it's clear to see that the gold is fused to her skin as blood flows from the spot where it was ripped. Therefore it would be difficult to take it all. The moment they kiss together and Jibaro is cut by her lips and tongue, he realizes that she is capable of hurting him despite his deafness and decides to kill her. He then strips her body of all its gold, the only thing of value to him, and throws her remains into the river. As such, blood is the bearer of life and death, so it is symbolic that the Golden Siren will be resurrected and Jibaro will be healed by it. In the final scene, I noticed that when Jibaro sinks to the bottom, you can't see his face. It's like he's just one of many. While the Golden Siren shows human emotion for the first time in the final minutes. (Until then her face was hidden behind a golden mask) When she realizes what has happened, her first reaction is to cover herself as if she was naked. She can't even 'sing' in the first two attempts, she sounds like a broken woman. She only manages to perform one dance figure before giving up on any other attempts at dancing and instead just starts screaming. For me, Jibaro is a story about greed while being also a metaphor for rape, where a woman is reduced to a sexual object and denied any humanity.

Im only a few episodes in but Season 3 feels like such an improvement over Season 2. Masons Rats and Kill Team Kill have been pretty good. Is Jibaro done by the same Studio who did The Witness in season 1? They feel just long enough to fully take advantage of the concepts they are exploring. Plus an improvement on the endings as opposed to feeling as if they've been cut off earlier then usual.

I agree with almost all the ranking, the only think I would have changed would be 'the very pulse of the machine', I'd put that higher. I'm not sure what it was, but it had me mesmerised the whole way through! Anyways, great list! 😁

Agree that Bad Traveling was the best one. It had me the most engaged and sitting at the edge of my seat.

Bad Traveling was so good, the artstyle was my favorite and was everything I've ever wanted explored in the animation medium. It had supernatural aspects but managed to stay grounded, top notch voice acting and animation. 100/10

My favorite was The Swarm, followed by Jibaro. In Vaulted Halls Entombed wouldve been really great if it expanded on the origin and background of the monster and monsters.

Mason’s Rats is the perfect episode and epitome of the entire show. Love, the affection Mason had for his cat and how he came to care for the rats seeing the devastation he had unwittingly caused Death, Must I explain the piles of dead rats Robots, the scorpion robot and drones

The fact that people have so wildly different opinions about this series is great, juxtaposed to sparking no conversation. Some people may love a certain episode while others hate it. It's all up to personal taste.

The very pulse of the machine went over everyone’s head for sure very philosophical and brang up a lot of Socrates and other great thinkers ideas

I don’t get the appeal of Jibaro. But hands down the best episode was Bad Traveling. Amazing artwork and story.

If you have the subtitles on you’d see the ending of the one with Cthulhu it says the women is “whispering in alien language” implying that her mind was taken over and maybe she just cut out her own eyes to get the images of what she’s unleashed into the world out of her head…

I loved the one with the mini zombie invasion for one simple reason....after I finished watching it came to me..."What if this is the way god sees the world?" I mean if that were true I wouldn't blame him for all the mayhem and chaos because it's just too damn entertaining.

In the end of Jibaro when the siren was cofused and showed some emotions... it was too human... I cried. Jibaro was the best from all 3 seasons for me. Bad travelling was the second!)

This was a tight season. Every episode had something good to it, either questions or smiles.

My top three would be 'The very pulse of the machine', 'Swarm' and 'In vaulted hills entombed' for the sheer possibilities that these can be made into their own movies with captivating stories.

Night of the mini dead is my favourite, shit was so funny and it was so much in just 5 minutes. Its just a stupid little short, and I adore it

Bad Travelling is probably the best episode in the entire show, Pop Squad is a close second though, but the animation was amazing, the story was really well structured and the main character and the Thanapod both had enough personality to carry the episode, also can we just acknowledge how smart the main character was, like that dude was scary good at playing people 10/10

I think the execution of the story in Bad Travelling was what made the episode from a good one to an excellent one. The visuals, color scheme, the score, lighting, character models and the excellent performances created a very immersive atmosphere like the one in Se7en. Fucking love Fincher

Jibaro and Bad Travelling were perfect, but The Very Pulse of the Machine is my favorite from this season, and maybe from the whole series. The animation was both trippy and visually pleasing, the soundtrack gripped me, and the story even moved me a bit. Overall tho, absolutely loved this third season, and I hope we get more from this series

Honestly my favorite episodes for ldr is probably the lovecraftian-esque ones. Like one of my absolute favorite genres are a mix of horror and mystery. And lovecraftian horror is a perfect mixture of both. That’s why Vaulted Halls, Bad traveling, and pulse of the machine are my favorites this season.

'Night of the Mini Dead' is hilarious as fuck, and should be much higher on this list. That's flagrant placing it at 9. 'Swarm' and 'Mason's Rats' alone should be below it.

Ive always felt that a halmark signature of a great short story is that you want to learn more about the world the story is set in. And so far, LDR has done in incredible job of getting the hooks in. Was exceptionally happy with Vol 3 and if we do get more i eagerly await to see what other exciting tales we receive.

Honestly this is your only Love, Death, Robots list I can personally agree with. I had completely different ratings and feelings about the episodes in Season 1 and 2, however in Season 3, we have almost the same Ranking. I have Kill Team Kill a little higher and 3 Robots a little lower but other than that, I totally agree this time: 9. Night of the Mini Dead 8. Masons Rats 7. 3 Robots 6. JIBARO was, by far, THE BEST in my opinion . It was simply a masterpiece! The perfect finale to LDR Season 3! Can't wait for Season 4!

this is exactly what my list would look like! Im kinda shocked tough... in vaulted halls entombed was a story from my favorite Netflix show about my favorite book genre and it still only managed to get 3rd place. Not that the epsiode was bad but it just shows how great this season has been to me.

Personally, I rank the LDR episodes in three categories (all personal opinions): Bad episodes, good episodes, and rewatchable episodes, personally this season brought two rewatchable episodes in Kill Team Kill and Night of the Mini Dead, and maybe Bad Traveling, but it also had some of my least favorite episodes out of the series in The Very Pulse Of The Machine, In Vaulted Halls Entombed, and Jibaro. Its interesting to see how you placed value on episodes in contrast to me. Great video!

Bad Travelling even was my favorite of the volume the lead character was really fun watching and seeing the ending of him out smarting his crew and wiping them out and later the crab was a big highlight, the music and art style fits well with the episode, this episode might be my one of my favorites for the series as a whole I can't tell how it puts up with Zima blue

Only just caught up with the whole series but Jibaro..... that episode is hands down one of the most hauntingly beautiful pieces of animation I've ever seen. The visuals, audio design, choreography, cinematography, everything is absolutely incredible. It's something that's going to stick with me forever.

I am just happy that a dancing conquistador is a believably real thing. Congrats Netflix for pushing that boundary again. I have re-watched every episode again and mostly agree with your ranking but disagree with final 2. But finding differing interpretations about a story is what makes a great film. I think the Captain knew there was only one way he would survive and the island was his story the marks had to believe. As for Jibaro I will say the she has is like an onion...with layers.

1) 'BAD TRAVELLING' 👌👌👌It's was like an epic nautical horror film from beginning to end compressed into 20 mins. 2) 'SWARM' Could've been longer but very intriguing idea. Often the big ideas don't have enough episode time so points for that. 3) 'IN VAULTED HALLS ENTOMBED' I was not expecting a Cthulhu themed episode but hot damn we got one. This series lends itself perfectly to cosmic horror.

I can’t bring myself to rank them, I’m just glad to have an animated anthology that is going for it. My understanding is that this series is taking up where heavy metal left off, and I really appreciate their effort. Finally, can one of the studios revisit Harry canyon from heavy metal? Buy the rights, or something...would love to see what Harry did with all those crono dollars :)

So far volume 3 are full of amazing shorts. My favoritr volume for sure.

Bad Travelling was my favourite from this volume. I thought everything came together really well in this one. The psychology between the main character and the rest of the crew, the difficult moral choices and the twists as well. And the creature was pretty gruesome and terrifying too.

I agree with your ranking, but not with all of your interpretations. I have a few corrections. 1. Night of the Mini-dead: Doesn't happen on a mini-planet, but rather on Earth. The "mini" aspect of it comes from the episode's whole point, which is how meaningless and small we truly are. There could be a crazy zombie apocalypse that escalates into an all out global nuclear war, but it would make no difference in the bigger picture, which is shown to us in the ending, when it pans out and makes us realize how unnoticeable all of that was from afar. 2. The Very Pulse Of The Machine: Not a planet, Io is one of Jupiter's moons, you can even see Jupiter all through out the episode. What's funny is that IO refers to any device, program or operation that transfers data, which is exactly what the jovian moon is supposedly doing. Burton's voice could be used by Io to manipulate Martha, but it's stated that Burton is being used bc her brain is almost intact and the moon can use her neurons as a way to transfer data to itself and to Martha via radio waves. ("radio is medium") 3. Jibaro: "Jibaro" is a word used to refer to a native tribe from Ecuador. The soldiers are very clearly spanish invaders, the armor gives it away. She's not a woman, but a siren. There are several legends of sirens in America told by the spanish soldiers that came here. Gold and women were the spanish soldiers main objectives during the colonization of America, which is very fitting with the siren's design. She doesn't cut him, she bites him, for she is a siren, not a woman. He doesn't knock her out bc of it, he approaches her from the get go bc of her gold and beauty, I think he intended to take her gold from the beginning. He doesn't reclaim what belonged to his people, he gave in to his desires. It is a critic towards the spanish colonization of Latin America. The fact that her voice leads them to their demise by being unable to control themselves is very fitting too.

1. Bad Travelling - Thrilling story, even with the huge plot hole 2. Jibaro - According to a german proverb genius and madness is close together. I vote for the genius side here, but narrowly. Alone the idea of a siren and a deaf knight is fascinating. 3. Masons Rats - Mirroring the terminator-idea with us humans as the terminator is fine. 4. The very pulse - small plot but nicely executed 5. Night of the mini - short, slightly funny and mostly meaningless 6. Three Robots vol2: Not good,, not really bad either 7. In vaulted halls - Oh no, again soldiers against strange creatures 8. Swarm - Ugly 9. Kill team - Oh no, again soldiers against strange creatures, but this time with morons.

Personally, I wasn't really a big fan of Jibaro, but the story was definitely still really interesting, and I loved trying to think of different ways of interpreting it. I would probably put it at number 4 of my favorites from this volume

I love Volume 1 more! Volume 1 : Zima Blue, Lucky 13, Fish Night, Helping Hand, The Witness. Volume 2 : The Drowned Giant, The Tall Grass. Volume 3 : Bad Travelling - My personal favourite of Vol.3 Mason's Rats - Love the ending Jibaro - I actually pity the Siren. Love Siren's and Knight's POV even though quite messy. The Very Pulse of The Machine - Great art and plot even though I can't brain the ending. But personally for me, NONE can touch Zima Blue. Just too masterpiece!

No wonder the Captain’s actor was good, it’s Troy Baker, like as far as voice actors go, you’re not gonna find much better.

Bad traveling was amazing, I loved the art style, the setting, the story telling, the symbolism, it was damn near perfect

Ranking 1. Jibaro: It was weird and confusing, but it certainly made an impact and was just very unique, so it gets the top spot. 2. Swarm: I liked this for that creepy concept of an entity breeding other races, more interesting than most this season but still didn't go far enough with it like Beyond the Aquila Rift. 3. Bad Travelling: I didn't love this one as much as others seem to, reasoning being that I didn't feel it had a deeper message. People are greedy, that's it? Beside that a giant crab and killing. Still, well-executed. 4. In Vaulted Halls Entombed: Not a super-ambitious concept nor deep message. Good animation, good pacing. The episode had suspense, and what I loved the most was that monster, it was truly awe-inspiring. The mystery and sheer scale of it made you really want to understand what it was, where it came from. That's like a boss straight out of the Souls games was my thought. 4. Swarm: I liked this for that creepy concept of an entity breeding other races, more interesting than most this season but still didn't go far enough with it like Beyond the Aquila Rift. 5. Masons Rats: Nothing mind-blowing but it looked crisp and nice, and delivered some fun moments. I like the animals evolving to keep up with humans idea, and how the rats imitated warfare. The ending was predictable but still sweet. 6. Night of the Mini Dead: I got the impression ppl didn't like this one. Nothing crazy but I do think it was well-made as far as art/animation goes. It was basically the apocalypse happening in fast-forward. At the end the planet blows up and all you hear is a fart noise, as to say that we're nothing but a "fart" in the greater universe. This is also mirrored by the fact that the whole episode is shown from a zoomed out perspective, showing how small we really are from the universe's perspective. 7. Three Robots Exit Strategies: I do recall the last one of these being superb, but this one didn't do a lot for me. Still I love the apocalypse theme and robots being the only ones left long after we're gone, and now are surveying how humans lived and how their world operated. I really love the animation on these, so crisp, and the art. The clever dialogue is nice as well, but I remember the last one being a lot more witty and funny, like laugh out loud. The ending with the cat is funny, in the sense of the whole idea that cats see themselves as above humans and gods in their own right. 8. The Very Pulse of the Machine: This one didn't do much for me. Usually I love the acid trippy stuff but you want to feel immersed by it and it didn't give me that feeling. I do think this has a concept that could be expanded and improved upon though. The idea of a sentient planet so to speak, and the whole consciousness thing. I like that she helped her friend and then later her friend helps her, even if it is the planet through her, that was a bit moving. 9. Kill Team Kill: This one felt unnecessary, unless you view it from a "excess violence is the entire point" lens and appreciate that for its own sake. The bear not dying no matter what was funny though, you see the head at the end lol. PS: Bad, Swarm and Vaulted rankings may change, these 3 are pretty interchangeable. Guess I'll actually watch the video now. Comment Before Even Watching Gang!

Absolutely loved Jibaro, Bad Travelling and Vaulted Halls. In that order. Mini Dead and Three Robots were so cute and funny and I liked them a lot for that reason. Mason's rats is also very nice but somewhat floats in the middle until you get Kill Team Kill, Pulse and Swarm that I liked the least.

I have the similar rating and i will put SWARM as my number 3. Thats the only change. Bad traveling also my number 1 and its stunning 🔥
