The song takes shape in a melancholy way, with straight forward lyrics and simple chords, somehow demanding to the listener how one should love. The most distinct feature of the song is the fading in and fading out piano of Phil Spector, the producer of the Beatles' Let It Be album. This song is considered as one of John Lennon's best love songs of all time.
