The first band member's voice you hear speaking in this song belongs to Wilbur Epps, who passed away yesterday. He worked for me and we became good friends outside of work. I used to love picking his brain about the famous singers he knew and performed with in his younger years. He had a hilarious story about playing in a pickup basketball game against The Jackson 5. Wilbur was a true original. His smile (which was constant) was infectious. He will be truly missed. Rest easy Wilbur Epps. Till we meet again.

Most young people today are tone deaf. Like everything today they have accepted and grown up with everything not of high quality. It's a shame they never experienced real music, like this great 70's soul group. Music should uplift the spirit and inspire. The utter noise they peddle for music today is just horrendous and very destructive.
I'm 61 yrs. now & this song melts my heart like it did in the 70's!!! I remember in middle school, we were young but there was love in our hearts!! CellaMadea
Ralph Eskridge is still singing with local bands in Minneapolis and St paul. He is in the middle of this picture. His high falsetto voice is just as smooth as it was when he was in High School. He coined the phrase "Love Jones" which will be in our lexicon forever. These young men from Chicago did their thing.
Sheik by Gianne ...Yes when Chicago was a place where good things could be done . Now a wasteland of mayhem , murder and danger because people hate black People because of the most beautiful soulful people we are . We have to have music live this deep in us . It would be no way to live in a America without ‘ Our Legacy ‘ of the richest WORLDWIDE !
At that time back then, in the shadows of the drug scene, when addicts badly needed a "Fix" they would say that they were Jonesin'. So The Brighter Side of Darkness (vocal group) used this analogy "Love Jones" making a reference to being love sick.
This song expresses what a person will experience when they are madly, head over heels in love. A Love Jones can be a man or woman. The heart doesn't discriminate. Be true to your emotions and share what you are feeling. If not, somebody else will. Enough said.
I get that same feeling every time I hear you song beautiful music was some damn good years to I love this type of music forever God bless you Colorado love signing off
I remember a couple girls writing me that note.. I recall on one note, I tried drawing a hand that meant "ehh-so, so.." She asked me if the hand was a dinosaur, I said no-it's a hand.
Early 70's especially! 1970 - 1974? KILLER ERA!!!!! Look at any Black music chart back then...NO ONE sounded the same. It was a murderers row. Brilliant lyrics, real musicians playing, etc. Sigh....
My need for you is almost like that of a junkie. Woooow Talk about strung out. The itching in his heart. I know this feeling damn well. A heroin addict for over 22 years. Now been clean since 2007 and my wife and I are still going strong thanks to our master up above. Like their song He Made You Mine
I love that boy with the high voice. He sounds adorable. "I know I failed, huh... a test paper? With nothin' but my name on it?? (giggle!! giggle!!) That's too damn cute. I love that part!!! (laugh!!)
Believe me, those memories are so cherished and missed..We our people need to get back real with themselves and their hearts, nothing to be ashamed about taking a chance on love, as the saying goes, " It is better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all"...
Music like this will always be remembered and appreciated by real music lovers. So relatable because I think we all have had a Love Jones at least once in our life.
This is real music from the hart , I was a young kid when this came out i had too older brothers and sisters they had all the music.. Saturday nights in my house was talent show and we all had our favorite song to sing. That was the best music ever.
Yvonne Rios ...I agree I lived in this golden age of rich music . We did not have nothing else ! Material things was not a issue , we never longed for it being never exposed to us . One toy for Christmas was something very special . A special cake made was a Phenomenon. Far to much is taken for granted today and just not appreciated . By a bunch of ingratitude when individuals don’t work to understand the value in receiving something that cost others blood sweat and tears of hard labor . But we had many dates in the rain 📀it may sound funny , but we had to go outside in the rain lol ,going somewhere to play our records . Our greatest literary and Drama teachers. It was what life gave us .We listened , we still do 🙂
The production is next level...the horns, drums, strings...etc, vocal harmonies, the timing of it all...all top notch, pulls you in and really makes you "feel" the song!
I REMEMBER WATCHING THEM PRACTICE THIS SONG ,THEN WATCHING THEM PERFORM IT AT THE CLUB ON 69TH STREET OFF OF THROOP IN CHICAGO. THE BAND, WAS AHEAD OF THEIR TIME. WHERE ARE THEY NOW?????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My grammar school friend Mark Davis played keyboard and borrowed my ampeg b-15-n and went on the road with this group and I have not heard from him since 1972 "friendship"
-I wonder how many 40+ year olds are walking around now, who were made, back when their parents were teens & 20's themselves & had slow jams like this playing back then?
Savadorason1 Al Green, Barry White, Isley Brothers, Marvin Gaye, Smokey, Stevie......I don't think ppl had time to get outta bed and make it to work bcuz of these crooners. 73'-74' had to provide an uptick on Gen-X babies!
I remember everytime my mother would be in the kitchen frying chicken in the cast iron pan while peeling potatoes for potatoe salad, my dad would come in the kitchen and grab my moms hand and slow dance to this song. She had the biggest afro in my city. Ohh the times. Long ass station wagon, crowded family reunions with pounds of meat grilling, 100 degrees with tank tops and bell bottom pants, sloppy kisses on the cheeks from aunts, fist to the arm from uncles, church every sunday with food after service downstairs, deacons smoking joints in the parking lot awe mann😭😭
Ain't nothing like those 70s songs back in the day. Especially our Soul 💔 songs when we had deep feelings about the one we loved. Oh junior high school days.
Wow the memories just flood back im 10 years old living in Bushwick Brooklyn Brings back tons of memories hearing this blasting from people apartments.
I had forgot about this old classic, but I did put out this old school remix of The Moments over new school beats check it out. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HOjNwWKQYE0.html&spfreload=10
Nae Lewis This was a really nice song back in the day. It was right on time wgen u were going throughnyour own puberty as a young teenager stage. Having a boy to sleep a note to and ask do u like him yes or no. Nice young music back in those good old day's....
I love 70's slow jams! I was a teenager at that time so it wasn't until I was grown that I realized how much 70's slow jams seduced me. I mean I"m in love with love because of songs like this. You can just feel it from the heart.
Great song. Reminds me of my older sister who passed away recently. She had great taste in music and loved this song. She will be greatly missed. Love You Sister .R.I.P.
I learned all of these Amazing songs during my Lowrider days....cruisin' 24th & Mission in the 80's.....so thankful.....my All Time Favorite Music Now & Forever......I was 16yrs old...born in 1964.....wish I could have seen groups like this perform.....
I STILL have the original song on 45 and I have them on CD.Everyone in my High School was singing this song when it came out!! Wonderful song from a great group. Some songs just never get old as far as I’m concerned. This is one of them!! ❤️
Memories ... When I was in high school. I had a boyfriend, we had only been.together.a month. We lived far from each other and we both could only see each other at school. I was in class.and an announcement from school office came across class intercom This message is for Karen .C .. from Ruben and Love Jones began playing..I will never forget that feeling, that was the only time the school allowed this type of dedication. From that day on everyone that walked by me would sing " Love Jones. I got a love jones' We stayed together until I moved out of state.I will never forget him. This song is so special 💞💞🎶
Another blast from Chicago's past. Pay attention; say what's on your mind to try to get the one you want. You may be surprised. Especially if you have a real true Love Jones. The worse thing to come from it is a friendship.
+Leo55BabyBoomer But in this day and age, you had better just speak your man once or twice, or the worse thing you might get is a harassment charge. Back in the day, a guy could chase a girl, but not anymore.
OMG Kissing friend you just hit a home run with those comments TRUE DA 4SURE!! I'm so damn happy I grew up in such a wonderful era and some. When real music speaks for itself timeless indeed AMEN!!! This kind of music never goes out of style Do you agree? Still listenin how about July 09 2020
If you've comprehend anything I've said, and you find that you do love me, then all I want to hear from you "doll" is that you too have a Love Jones.... Awesome music & Lyrics #YESYES #💜 💜💜

Insane a song written by my uncle Ralph (Top middle in the pic) has had such an impact over the past nearly 50 years. He's so mild mannered these days its incredible the influence he has had on so many lives.
