In this acoustic guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all the chords for Elvis Presley's beautiful classic "Love Me Tender".
Recorded in 1956, "Love Me Tender" quickly shot to the top of the charts. Elvis' haunting vocal style along with a gorgeous acoustic guitar accompaniment really resonated with fans.
In this Love Me Tender guitar lesson video, I will show you not only that great chord progression, but also the picking pattern that is used throughout the song to play those chords.
The picking pattern is very simple to play and will involve you playing a single bass note followed by a slow single strum. It will almost sound like you are arpeggiating the chord instead of strumming it.
The strumming pattern is very effective to keep the rhythm consistent in the song. The very slow tempo of "Love Me Tender" requires that sort of rhythmic help in order to feel the pulse of the song.
The chords themselves will be a little more challenging. Most of the chords used are basic open position chords, but you will see from my performance at the beginning of the video lesson that there will be some bar chords to deal with as well. In addition to that, there will be some chords you may not be very familiar with. I highly recommend learning them all because it is precisely those interesting chord forms that have the greatest impact on the sound of the chord progression.
