It all started with the fact that after recording the song, Igor Krutoy and Dimash thought about creating a music video. There was such a dialogue: - Igor Yakovlevich, who shot the video with Hvorostovsky? - It was Alan Badoev. - I wish he would take pictures for us! - So I’ll call him. Dimash was very happy that he could work with one of the most famous clip makers in the post-Soviet space. Alan Badoev is a Ukrainian film director, clip maker, producer and former host of the Eagle and Tails program. The idea for the video was formed from various things that inspired Badoev. The result is a mix of the legend about one-winged angels, capable of flying only in pairs, and the style of the film “Romeo and Juliet” by Italian director Franco Zeffirelli. Alan Badoev spoke about the main idea as follows: “When working with Dimash, I wanted to remind the viewer once again that even being one-winged we can fly if we hold hands and divide the sky in two”. The video was shot on a grand scale - in beautiful locations in Spain near Malaga and in Ukraine. Over 70 different specialists took part in the filming process.”

His strength is only enough for very little and it often seemed to him that his life had no effect. But every spring the poppies bloomed along the roadsides and gladdened people's hearts. After a particularly long, cold winter, in which man had scarcely found enough warmth and shelter, space and food, friendship and bread, he could only move slowly and with difficulty. He had to take many breaks and fell asleep by the wayside from exhaustion. Then he saw far above him on an unreachable high rock a small meadow full of red poppies. Man rubbed his eyes. So red, so red the poppy blossomed! When he saw these flowers, he wished so much that he could give such a flower and such a clear, heartfelt red as a sign of love to all the people he met and all the animals around him. Then he noticed a hiker next to him, just as tired, just as marked by the long road as he was. "Where do you look so full of longing and full of melancholy?" he asked. Look at the poppies there. That should be the color of our love." Don't you know how quickly these kinds of flowers wither, how wonderful they are?" came the wanderer's question. Well, it’s a simple story inspired by the German legend mentioned by others here. A land of swans/angels living in happiness and love. Arrival of the evil dark beings, bombarding them and trapping them in nets. Their wings are cut probably to take away their powers and to stop them from flying away. Then Dimash and his girl are placed on the chopping block, and the first wing is cut off. This triggers a sudden release of electrical energy which seems to galvanize the dying swans into one last convulsive movement. Dimash pulls the girl away while the monsters are stunned. They jump off the cliff, but hugged together, so they are able to fly away by combining their single wing together.
The music video 'The Love of Tired Swans' was released on April 18, 2019. The video was shot in the highlands of Spain and was named one of the best music videos of the year in Russia. Director: Alan Badoev (*1981), Ukrainian film director, music video director, screenwriter, TV producer, TV presenter and music producer of Ossetian origin. Hello Jesse! This MV is confusing, because it doesn't follow the story told by the lyrics. Alan Badoev uses two different stories, swans with cut wings and the Germain legend of one winged angels. In such cases, I always check dimashnews for background; they have very nice articles telling what the composer, lyricist or the director has said about the creation of the piece. As mentioned in the comments, Alan Badoev directed also the MV "Know", which I like even more than this one. The MV "I Miss You" (Yevgeny Kuritsyn) hasn't got much attention, but I'm very fond of it. It's an original song composed by Igor Krutoy for Dimash. It's a black & white video, and very simple - perhaps I associate it with "film noir" and am therefore attracted to it.

I think the reason as why the lyrics do not entirely blend with the imagery which made you confused is that the director of the mv and Dimash wanted to use the video as a poetic statement conserning the political situation at that time in russia and also kasakhstan. There was not jet war then but the ominous clouds were gattering long ago for those who wanted to see them. To my understanding the video is about totalitarien regimes that demoralize and immobilize the people the only way to survive is flight. The video is also reminding of the sufferings of the kasakh people under the sowiet ruel. Of corse the original song by igor was not about all this but this is a cover of the old song and Dimash and the director used their creative freedom to add something new to the song.

I understand your reaction. I'm not in love with the video images. Beautiful vocal performance of course. I prefer the melodic vocal to be in the same range per song unless it is just for an occasional ornament. That's usually my problem with Dimash. Just because he can do it doesn't mean he always should.
