I love, love, love your Forestella reactions. Everytime I see that you've posted a video about them it makes my day. Thank you so much for that 💚💚 I like your informed enthusiasm and appreciate that you're open to exploring different facets of Forestella. I feel that Doohoon and Hyungho are having so much fun here, maybe showing off a bit, and the chemistry between the two of them is amazing (not discounting the other two members of this impromptu quartet, of course). Mingyu and Woorim are having a blast at the sidelines, too. I just love how genuinely into each other's singing the Forestella members are, no matter the occasion. As others suggested in the comments: It would be fantastic to see you react to solo performances of Forestella members as well. As you appreciate Hyungho so much, his Phantom of the Opera would be a great way to start. The song is a throughline through his career. He auditioned with it for the casting show that made Forestella (not necessarily the clip to react to as it is short and not the "ultimate" version). Then he revamped it for another TV show about three years ago, which is the clip most people refer to when mentioning his Phantom of the Opera and usually chosen by reactors for good reason. However, he also performed a revamped revamped version in July 2024 for Immortal Songs under his band name PITTA. This one maybe illustrates best where Hyungho is at as an artist right now. Love it! Part of why these sorts of performances are so deserving of so many "Wow!"s is because in most of these shows, the performers don't know who they will be paired up with until right before they have to prepare; they are often only given a few days at most to select a song, get a new arrangement with the arrangement team, figure out roles, staging, blocking, etc., and practice together. So to come out with something that looks and sounds so phenomenally put together, professional, and like they have been performing together for a long time... definitely deserves Wows! And they are doing this in front of other people who know how much work goes into this, so all the watchers and judges are suitably impressed too. For other Forestella performances, like Bad Romance or Lanzanka Save Us, they can start blocking those out ahead of time because they are performing in their usual group, they know the requirements and specifications ahead of time and so they can arrange something themselves and have at least 70% under their belts. It's like Bad Romance is moving to a new stage, but performing in a role that you've done for a few years. You know the role well, but you may need to just learn a few variations in spots. But something like this one is moving to a new stage, totally new role that you might have heard of or even seen once, but have never tried to do yourself. Oh, and opening night is in a week. :)
This was one of the highlights of the series for me! I loved it so much. ❤ 👏👏👏👏👏Hats off to the 2 gentlemen from Miraclass & Edel Reinklang …they were fabulous given the genre, the hard work and no doubt extra long hours and time constraints they were allotted in order for them to pull off such an enjoyable collaboration with Doohoon & HyungHo. I am also of the opinion that the epic-stage Immortal Songs 2 final battle competition performances of Bad Romance, Lazenca Save us and Mama were extremely challenging for Forestella too, despite the advantages you listed…because they had different pressures associated with it. They might make it all look effortless and like a walk in the park, but in reality it never is. King of Kings battle LIVE episodes in front of LIVE audiences with LIVE eliminations are Extremely daunting and due to the scale of it, is fraught with the risk of things going wrong on the day, no matter how conscientious the preparation…especially vocally. Forestella never make the assumption they are going to win…because they are in a constant battle with themselves..trying to beat their own last performance. The PSA collaboration group wasn’t performing in a survival competition facing elimination and had their fellow teams and online audience rooting for them. For King of Kings battles, one of the biggest hurdles to overcome is EXPECTATION…both the audience’s which naturally consists of mixed and divided loyalties and the artist’s own expectations that they heap upon themselves. Tough gig all round.

Phantom Singer is about mixing up vocalists who go off, choose a song, then create their performance so the reaction from the judges and the other contestants is because this is a refreshing change from operatic songs.
Aaaah yes yes yes! Ok so lil detail: There are many wows cause the guys just had a couple days to prepare since they didn't even know who they were going with. The show pair them at random but in pools so each "group" has a base, a baritone or two, and a tenor or two. Also, not many changes in the arrangement cause of time to prepare this, they had to prioritize roles, practice, parts, duos, harmonies, trios etc, all that good shit. Anyways this is a special performance for me, I was real down during covid and this came around that time, it really really stayed with me, it is so hyped, so upbeat, they are so happy (or at least look like it) and I feels like the Forestella guys are the ones that get to shine the most which I love! I loved your harmony with yourself, we always take those haha. And as always a perfect explanation for everything you noticed and the differences with the original piece. (By the way I love One Republic). Also as always your natural attention to detail always impresses me. Anyways, in summary, it is beautiful and I loved it! Thank you for the shoutout! One thing I noticed about voices using their upper registers in this song…. it seemed the vibrato in those voices was a very fast vibrato which I have always associated with intensity. Since this was a very intense piece that fast vibrato really added a kind of “fierceness”. The only singer that seemed to break that mold was the gentleman having a fairly high solo that used a more powerful chesty voice (you mentioned it had an opera-like quality) and his vibrato was so wide as to approach a vocal wobble. However, the speed of his wide vibrato was still fast so it kept the intensity strong, most people who use a vocal wobble use a slow one so they can actually sound “warbly”. It is common is aging singers who are losing diaphragmatic support and can be heard a lot in church choirs. These 4 aren’t normally in a group together. The 2 on the left Bae Doohoon (baritenor and musical theatre graduate majored in acting) & Kang HyungHo (self-taught tenor soprano and rock-singer and former research chemist ) are members of Forestella, winners from Season 2 of Phantom Singer in 2017 and the most successful crossover group to date born in South Korea. This show is a spin off created from the Phantom Singer series during covid in 2021. The singer Han Taein to the far right is from Miraclass, who were 2nd place to Forestella in the 2nd season. Cho Hyunkyun is the one to the left of Han Taein and is from Edel Reinklang. This grouping was the result of one of the rounds of the Phantom Singer All Stars…aptly named Phantom Singer Friends. The series was a friendly gathering of all the winners of series 1,2and 3 of Phantom Singer, on JTBCTV …a Korean cable tv series.
Phantom Singer All Stars is a program that is really worth watching, I started watching it with Forestella and I fell in love with the other eight groups, they are SO talented 🤌🏻😫

저 4명은 의 결승전 세 팀의 멤버들로 구성된 팀이고, 이라는 프로그램에서 임시 결성되었어요. 이 공연을 한번 하고 원래 팀으로 돌아갔습니다. 라는 오디션이 워낙 성악가 비율이 높아요. 뮤지컬 배우 중에도 성악을 전공한 사람들이 상당히 많아서, 순수한 팝이나 락을 원곡에 가깝게 소화하기가 쉽지 않습니다. 임시 결성된 저 팀은 베이스 1명만 빼고 전부 성악 전공자가 아니에요. 그래서 팝스타처럼 등장도 멋있게 하고(사람들이 노래 시작 전에 감탄하는 건 이 프로그램에서 보기 힘든 스타일이어서 그렇습니다.) 원곡에 가깝게 리듬을 타며 부르는 게 오히려 크로스오버였던, 그런 상황이랍니다. 그래서 색다른 편곡을 시도하지 않은 것 같아요. :) 언제나 깊이 있고 재밌는 리뷰 잘 봤어요~!
It's was Phantom Singer All Stars, a competition between 1,2,3 Phantom Seasons. Three teams by each one. Season 2: Forestella, Miraclass & Edel Reinklang (were the 2nd & 3th place). I started watching him when he hit. 10k views I love his analysis style and have learned SO much from him. He isn't arrogant in any way He's an amazing singer and can play multiple instruments I think he's a pretty genuine guy and seems very nice, and if you have a musical question, he is not judgemental., He really knows his music. I have a great respect for him. I think he will do amazingly well with his platform. I'm proud to support him. He's funny and likable. Love your reactions and analyses! This performance was in a series done during Covid called Phantom Singers (PS) All-stars. 9 quartets formed in previous years during PS 1,2, and 3 performed. The only audience were the other quartet members and a small panel of judges. In this segment members from the same season were mixed and then competed against other seasons. In other segments , the quartets sang with their own groups. The mixed groups were really special and they may not have another show like this again where they bring all the singers together. I would love to hear your reactions to some of the other quartets. La Poem from PS 3 also has a countertenor. Miraclass has one member who is one of the most well known Korean operatic baritone. Of course, my favorite is Forestella. They are working as a trio while Ko Woorim is in military and also performing solo. This is a kind of Gala Show of original program PHANTOM SINGER after season 3, so called PHANTOM SINGER ALLSTARS. Every finalist of season 1,2 and 3 - each has three teams, and Forestella was in season 2 and final winner - has got together. In this show, they broke down 1 on 1, 2 on 2, obiously 4 on 4 and also they just were mixed-up all together like this rendition. they once made team for season by season also. hence, it was not desperate like original PHANTOM SINGER which is a sort of Audition to make quartet, but enjoyable than. This whole PHANTOM SINGER ALLSTARS is recommendable, for example, JE SUIS MALADE and TIME In a BOTTLE are from this.
This is from Phantom Singer All-Stars. They brought in the top 3 teams from the first 3 seasons of the show Phantom Singer and then they played the seasons against each other (Forestella won season 2, but Edel Reinklang and Miraclass were serious contenders). They would mix and match them. (this is where Cho Mingyu’s performance of “Balada De La Trompeta” comes from and if you havent watched that OH MY GOD you need to!). The ooohing and aaahing in the beginning is probably just for the dramatics. They don’t usually move around a lot on stage for this show, it’s about vocals, not dance moves. Almost everyone you see in the audience are either their teammates or the competition (Covid Times). These guys are always so good at cheering on good music, even if it’s against their own teams. Bae Doohoon often sounds ‘metallic’. I will see people talking about how he’s autotuned on a regular basis, and it’s honestly just his sound. You’ll hear it in song after song, and it’s just his unique voice. In this team up: You know Doohoon is a Musical Theater guy, and Hyungho came to us from a chemistry research lab. As for the other two, Taein is classically trained and Hyungkyun is also a Musical Theater guy. I will never listen to the original of this song again. This one won my heart. Suggestions I have that I don’t think you’ve done “Bad Romance”, “Legends Never Die”, “Bohemian Rhapsody” or, for more of Doohoon’s Metallic sound, “Despacito”. (and seriously, Cho Mingyu’s “Balada de la Trompeta!”)

I adored this! Performance and your R/A. I just "discovered" Forestella (as if they needed discovering by one American😅) a couple of years ago and was instantly obsessed. It's incredible that Kang HyungHo has no formal vocal training. Just astonishing how good he is, as is each Forestella member. Anyway, i now wish i had some grasp of Korean language so i could enjoy the group's blog, interviews, and funny clips, not all available with English subtitles on RU-vid. Thanks, Sir.

Surprised at your song pick. This was just a fun performance during Covid! Phantom singers All Stars: top 3 groups from the past 3 seasons participated. As you mentioned, this was a mixed group, so I don’t think they really prepared much for it. But they sure had a lot of fun! There was another combination that performed “ Sweet Dreams” by Eurythmics. Cho Mingyu also did a duet “ Rosalina” with Julian Kim from Miraclass. Mingyu also performed “ Balada de la Trompeta” for the solo battle . All great! The fact that they can put up live performances like this with very little preparation amazes me.

On another “Inner Universe” video on RU-vid performed by Forestella, Yoko herself left the comment that it was cool. And Forestella fans were surprised that she liked it and the video is still on RU-vid even she awears of that. Then she visited South Korea to go to Forestella concert. And Yoko and Forestella having great relationship each other. Because she liked their cover so much, their song became one and only cover officially allowed to be posted on RU-vid and on air. Forestella also has a version of the English folk song “Greensleeves” called “ Moonlight”. You get to hear some pure tones of Kang Hung Ho and the other members. This is different from the Korean folk song “ Moonlight in Silla” mentioned above.

A busy song performed wonderfully by 4 talented guys Intriguing concept. Not a song I would gravitate towards But their voices enthusiasm head-bopping beat cajoled winning me over. But... I'm still in love with Kang-Pitta um, er ... for his voice of course. :) And it dawned on me, both Kang and Alex Montembault (from Sir's July ratings) when I hear both of their voices I'm pretty sure I can feel my heart tremble. They both 'float' as if on an invisible tightrope but there is no tension in their singing. Their pure (naive?) voices are both grounded yet ascended suspended in the in-between-world of notes, harmonies. Both capable of knocking me into a whole other realm of hearing, listening experiencing. I simultaneously want to bolt and stay powerful emotions evoked. I'm perhaps describing this all so inelegantly but I've not been able to get Alex's voice out of my mind, and Kang-Pitta well I suspect that will be a life-long-love-affair For his voice of course. Yeah, I also really like the 'sort of' Forestella's Love Poem, it actually has one of the most beautiful vocals through all the competition (my opinion of course) and it surprisingly isn't even from the members of the group but another I don't know, at minute 4.16
