The Who are a great British rock band formed in London in 1964. They are considered one of the most influential rock bands of the 20th century & have sold over 100 million records worldwide. They have so many great songs such as "I Can't Explain", "The Kids Are Alright", "My Generation", "Who Are You", "Won't Get Fooled Again", "Substitute", "Happy Jack", "I Can See For Miles", "Behind Blue Eyes", "Boris The Spider", "Pictures Of Lily", "Magic Bus", "Pinball Wizard" etc.

The Who were amongst the greatest acts of the 60's, into the 70's, up there with the Stones and Led Zep. Their back catalogue is older than me, and I was born before the moon landing. They once held the record for being the loudest band. Simultaneously ahead of their time, of their time, and timeless. Two of em are even still alive. Some of the best Rock of their generation and all time

I love the way John Entwistle just stands there stoically and thumps the crap out of that bass in contrast to Roger and Pete. And if the drummer, Keith, could carry his kit around he'd probably be rockin it.

The move that Pete Townshend does with the guitar is the windmill. John Entwistle once said he was a babysitter for 3 unruly tottlers. Yes he enjoyed himself very much he never showed it. Back then they felt the music they played. The music always came first along with the fans. These four guys enjoyed being on stage entertaining the fans.

Ya can tell they enjoyed playing together. Keiths headset had a strap in the front and back to hold it in place. I saw them in 71 with Wishbone Ash as opener. All for the price of a $2.00 lawn seat. Jim

The reason Keith Moon had to wear headphones while playing is that the electric organ parts were on tape, so he had to have those really loud in his ears to be able to keep the rest of the band on pace. The reason they are duct taped to his head is that he plays so wild.
@chrisholland6052

Part of the fun of The Who is the contrast between the manic energy of Pete Townsend, and the steadfastness of John Entwhistle (the bass guitar). Pete's going crazy, and John's their mainstay.

They were the absolute wild men of rock in the 70's. Keith Moon is famous for having driven a car into the swimming pool of their hotel. The pool was on the first floor. They used to trash hotel rooms and their equipment in equal measures.

Each of The Who are in their zones. Bass player (John Entwistle) looks ubinvolved until you watch what his hands are doing - he's as deep into as anybody else and such a good player he's painting fills along with the drummer (Keith Moon.) Headset taped to head so he could hear a click track to keep him in time and so the headset would not come off - he's comparatively restrained in this performance but is widely regarded as one of the most unique and sonically gifted drummer of that era. The singer (Roger Daltrey) used to sing blues and R&B before he became one of greatest and most recognizable rock singers of the 20th and 21st centuries. The guitar player (Pete Townshend) also wrote most of The Who's songs is drunk on cognac in this performance, and is with Jimi Hendrix the most influential rock guitarist of the time. Each of these musicians are legends in their own right but it was with The Who the four created a brand of "heavy" rock with lyrics going beyond the typical love song and opened the doors to concept albums, hard rock, heavy metal, and punk. The music of The Who still sounds fresh, Legendary band.

I actually laughed out loud when you said how unprofessional they would look compared to today's stage musicians. Well, these guys were real, actual skilled musicians and song writers and not the auto-tuned button pushers of today that you seem to think are something. They had, by the time this video was made in 1978, been performing together for nearly 15 years and had played thousands of live shows.

While there are many exemplary and special voices in early rock, Roger Daltrey is one of the earliest BIG rock voices. I don't know how else to put it. A voice that commands the spotlight, and the band organized to highlight that voice. Other bands after often had someone with a special voice like that, like Aerosmith, Queen, Boston, Journey, Van Halen, AC/DC. There's a lot of other singers with great and distinctive voices, like Michael Jackson, that weren't BIG voices in this rock style.

The next Who video you do should be their performance of "A Quick One (While He's Away)" from the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus movie. This was a documentary style concert of mostly The Rolling Stones, with some guests performances by other artists. The Who were just finishing a long tour, and are working together fantasticly and with huge energy. Its a tremendous performance. So good in fact, that rumors swirl that they upstaged the Rollings Stones so badly that they didn't release the movie for decades.

the who in their early days were famous or infamous for completely destroying everything, amps, drums, guitars, etc. 1979, after this concert, 11 people were trampled to death at a Who concert in Cincinnati Ohio cause it was open seating (first come, first served)everybody rushed to get close to the stage. The band had no idea what had happened. They did make a comeback of sorts. later the singer was still one of my favourite characters acting on The Highlander tv series of the early 90's!

A curse on Rock Bands about to preform is "The city whose name must not be spoken," (similar to mentioning the play McBeth in theater) is mentioning the Who concert in Cincinnati in 1979. Ok don't think that is true but I saw it on a TV series about a rock bands roadies, called Roadies lol, when they dedicated an entire episode to that tragic event. In the show they had to do a silly ritual to lift the curse. Was funny.

The Who thrived off thier live shows and loved thier fans..they gave thier all, every night..I think the reason bassist John was always so stoic on stage was he was a technical-type player, and that model bass is pretty heavy..Plus you noticed he always kept an eye on where Roger would swing that mike! Great reaction! I just discovered your channel a few days ago and subscribed. The Who were always so energetic live. By the way I loved when you said “yeet” when Pete threw the tambourine - you should say yeet in more videos!! 😄

The two kids get to play while grandpa John stands there so stoically and doing his job. Usually Keith is making faces while playing the drums but Roger and Pete just get to go and do whatever they want on stage and letting it rip. Believe it or not, Pete and Roger are still in the band and they're still doing concerts etc minus Keith and John who both passed. If you know of the CSI TV shows back in the late 90s/early 2000s they used The Who music for their lead in songs on the shows, there were like 5 of them over a span of a few years...CSI Vegas, CSI Miami, CSI New York, CSI Crime Scene Investigation and CSI Cyber. The CSI shows all have theme songs by The Who and one song for 2 of the shows since they spun off of each other. The Who did a special concert for police officers and those were the songs they performed.

The Who sing about rebellion and revolution. They are raw power and nearly every song is like a rallying call. Tossing the tambourine is nothing compared to eventually happens to all their instruments by the end of the show. Guitars are smashed, drum are kicked over and even blown up and speakers are trashed.

little story I was born in 1960 and the other day I was talking to young people between 16 and 18 about music. They asked me what I listened to at their age, I said among other things "the Who" and of course no one knew. I told them of course that if you know and I took this piece out of my phone and they told me it's the credits of the series from one of the experts. I Said Yes all the credits of all the series the experts were Who. some old music. In short to say that certain pieces of music are known but not the origin.
