Thank you for telling my great grand father's story. Hearing it always challenges me to live up to his moral legacy. Also crazy to think how much we love Japanese culture now. I wonder what our relationship would have been like had he decided to not pardon those Japanese soldiers. Just last week we had a lunch with the descendants of these Japanese soldiers, along with the Japanese ambassador. Apparently we celebrate Elpidio Quirino's birth & death anniversary, and the date of his pardoning each year with the Japanese embassy. The families have come a few times already to honor him for significant milestones. Thank you for your story telling and your amazing heart for research, sir. God bless you more. ☺️🙏

This should be written in our history textbooks, this is the first time I heard this highly inspiring story of the greatness of one Filipino president who unselfishly rose above his personal tragedy to forgive the Japanese people in the interest of world peace. Such a beautiful story, what a noble man you are, President Elpidio Quirino!

I was in Japan late 1979 under Foreign work & that time sikat na sikat yung “ANAK” ni Freddy Aguilar Japanese version … nagulat kami ng office mate ko na may mga Japanese men crying out loud real tears coming down their cheeks & started embracing us & whole customers at the party & explained their sorrows & deep regrets for what they did to us Filipinos & took them YEARS to suffer their pain & sorrow with tears for the unforgivable things they did to our country 😩😩😩

Yes, that is all true. My mother is a survivor of the horrors at Ermita during the war. She is now 90 yrs old and suffering from dementia, but on her lucid moments, she would always talk about what happened in Ermita during the war. Thank you very much for this video - now I can understand the trauma she went through as a child and still haunts her to this day. I am her daughter and she is under my care and I always thought that her stories were exaggerated, but when I watched this video it just confirmed everything that my mother said about the horrors in Ermita. Maraming salamat po.

Tears rolled down my cheeks as I could not help but be deeply touched by the historical narration of the knowledgeable tour guide. Forgiving the very people who tortured his countrymen and killed his beloved wife and children is unimaginable. So so good a man to be capable of such. Previously, what I heard of Pres Quirino was about the “golden urinola”. Now I know the true character of the man. He must have been a victim of political mudslinging during his lifetime. Thank you tour guide. Thank you kayouTubero! Rest in peace Mr President.

After the war, America and other nations decided to help rebuild Japan. I am not reviving the old truce between the 2 countries, tapos na tayo sa ganung part of history, pero in between friendships lagi nating tandaan na walang libre. Alam nyo ba na hindi itinuturo sa history books ng Japan ang tungkol sa atrocities they did in the past? I even had a back and forth with a young Japanese and told him about it, and his response was, the abuse of women is part of a war. There seem to be no remorse about it, instead they hate the Americans for bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Yes, the new generation of Japanese are well aware of those bombings, but not about their atrocities. As an old saying goes, when they don't learn their history, they will tend to repeat it. Perhaps not in this generation but in the next to come. Let's be forgiving but not too trusting, that's all!

Napakabuti ng puso ni Pres.Quirino.

I get teary eyed if what had happened that time. I was born in 1941 and according to my Mom we got spared from Japanese slaughter because we were all in a Chinese camp. Thank you for showing us the greatness of President Quirino.

Very informative and an eye opener too! Thank you for sharing the story of the Quirino family. It's tragic but enriching in the end. Thanks a lot again, and hats off to you ....❤
