This dropped soon after I discovered Joy Division and while you'd think no one should cover an iconic band's signature song, Swans did a great job. I love this cover and I think Ian would've too.
He also says the entire Angels of Light project was “a failure,” so you can’t really go by what he says always, haha. He is accurate, though, when he says he used a tad bit too much reverb in the early 90s!
Yea, Goth isn't any one specific sound and The Cure do not call themselves Goth. Seen Robert Smith say he hates that label applied to The Cure. This is darker sounding than the original - fact.
I had the original version on red vinyl so - this was a great cover. When I already loved Joy Division. I will never forget that because I believe this was the best cover ever. And it was so brutal to this blood red thing turning and depressing me.
its funny, i think i listened to this before a looooong time ago and just thought it was the original and without knowing it was swans. now, swans is one of my favorite bands. funny how that happens
I actually wasn’t aware of this “forever burned” compilation. Now I’ll have to! Various failures and public castration were better than some of the actual albums
When I found the music video on RU-vid, I thought it was an original song, but when I found out that it was a Joy Division cover, it blew my fucking mind! I knew about both bands before then, but love this version better!
Das ist so eine wunderbare Coverversion ! Ich kann sie aber offiziell nirgends finden. Was ist mit diesem Song passiert, dass ich es nicht offiziell beziehen kann ?
I remember hearing this once back in the day and not liking it, feeling the band had sold out somewhat by releasing this, and that it smacked of record company interference but, listening again today, I think it is far better than the original.
No no no no no, don't touch Ian Curtis version of this coz it will always be second best,ok fair enough if it's just a jam and put your own spin in it but the original will always be the best in this case.
