the star cymbals are drummer haruna's trademark. for about 10 years now. one of the most precise drummers to ever rule the skins. 4 ft. 9 inch freight train. and yes the stars are ornamental - she usually spins them before some songs

Lovebites are definitely the real deal One of, if not the most excitingband to emerge in decades. I am 75 and grew up with rock and roll. I can remember the tingling in my spine and the goosebumps I felt the first time I heard Bill Haley's Rock Ariund the Clock, Chuck Berry's Mabelline & Presley's Heartbreak Hotel in the 1950s, the Beatles 'Love Me Do', The Rolling Stones, The Who, Black Sabbath in the 1960s etc. and when I first heard Lovbites 'Shadowmaker' in the fall of 2017 I felt exactly the same sensations. Their live performances are much more exciting than their studio recordings, the vocalists voice souns better in an auditorium than in a studio. They make it seem so effortless at the same time as looking like supermodels on the catwalk and performing a full 90 minute plus gig, playing their instruments, moving around the stage, headbanging and changing the pedals on their effects boards wearing four inch high heels and that they do not even break sweat, not even Haruna the drummer, says it all.

congrats for your first contact with lovebites. probably the best metal band at the moment on the planet. these ladies are something else. my favourite band. I would recommend "holy war" from the same concert for the next reaction. and thank you for this video. glad you like them.

I love both Lovebites and Band Maid! But yeah they play different genres, Lovebites is a full on Metal band while Band Maid is as they label themselves a Hard Rock band! Fun fact - Both drummers Haruna (Lovebites) and Akane (Band Maid) are friends! This is one of their more progressive songs i would say, and it's definitely not "Glory to the World" 😁 Haruna's star shaped cymbals are purely cosmetic, she likes to spin them, it is her trademark and is something that comes before Lovebites even existed. Lovebites is a farily new band being formed in 2016 and have released 3 full albums and 4 EP's so far, the last one titled "Glory, glory to the World" released last month. As you can see they are very talented, Miyako the guitarist on the right also plays piano as you saw in the beginning, it is actually her main instrument she started at age 3 and only picked up the guitar at age 18. I suggest you take a look at: Holy War - Break the Wall - Swan Song - Raise Some Hell - Thunder Vengeance all Live from the same show at Zepp DiverCity in Tokyo 2020. Also their latest music videos "Glory to the World" and "Winds of Transylvania"! This is a fantastic band and if you enjoy 80's power/thrash metal, well then you hit the jackpot with Lovebites! A great reaction sir LOVEBITES is a great band to say the least since they formed their catalog of music consists of 3 EP’s / 3 full length albums / 2 live albums with accompanying DVD or Bluray”s (this video was from their Five Of A Kind concert in Tokyo-a 19 song set) and a made to order live stream DVD/bluray and all their songs are great these ladies never disappoint..so if you like the 80’s vibe of music I think you might like this band

Great reaction. My favorite band with this masterpiece. The emotional guitarist is the pianist which she start playing at 3 years old. They are all amazing performers. This whole concert “five of a kind” from 2020 is great. Bought the blu-ray. The japanese shows are of high quality. Lovebites, Band Maid, Nemophila are with Nightwish as my full listening now. Love these bands. Band Maid is rock/ hard rock. This song is beautiful, in my top songs of all time. Band Maid use the "gap" , the what you see, and what you hear. Miku BM rythum guitarist worked in a maid cafe, when she came up with the theme. Midori, the blond guitarist here, and bassist Miho said they wear white to set them apart. Metal is thought of as dark, black. They wanted to not just be typical metal look. Drummer Haruna has those star cymbals made for her, she used them in her former band Destrose. Miyako plays Dean guitars and Les Paul. Midori plays ESP ii. Miyako plays all piano backing tracks. Try their songs: Winds of Transylvannia, Holy war, Scream for me, Swan song, Glory to the world, Hammer of wrath. Epilogue, you may want tissues. Burden of time is a favorite of mine, Miyako plays hammer on power chords on guitar with left hand, piano with right hand.

Piano player is the guitarist on the right, practically speaking piano is her main instrument as she has played it for over 27 years vs the 12 years of guitar, still she is a master of both.

Enjoyed the reaction! Yes, Miyako goes back and forth between guitar and piano. There's currently a video of theirs: "Burden of Time" where she plays piano with her right hand while hammering on chords on guitar with her left! As a guitarist myself, I tend to gravitate a bit more to Midori (ponytail). She's a GIT grad which puts her up there with the greats like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, etc. Her technique is tighter and more refined. But I have to concede Miyako is the more "well rounded" musician, having started concert pianist training at the age of 3. Guitar is her second instrument. She plays a Dean Icon, by the way.

Great reaction. Dark-haired guitarist Miyako played the piano intro and the keys on the backing track. She is a seriously talented pianist (check out their live version of Swan Song). Miyako plays Dean guitars. Blond-haired guitarist Midori plays ESP guitars. I believe bassist Miho plays ESP as well. Drummer Haruna’s pentagram cymbals are emblematic of the 5 members of the band. She will give the one near her toms a spin occasionally, but she’s normally too busy hammering away to do that.

This band just crushes it. There is no filler or stinkers in their entire catalog. If you want to see a little more focus on the drums try Eagle Fly Free (Helloween cover), it's a live in studio clip and you can see everyone play in good lighting and close up. Not sure you mentioned it but Asami sings completely in English which separates them a bit from many of the other Japanese bands. 🐺

I can already tell you are going to absolutely LOVE this band once you start checking out the rest of their songs.

Band Maid is great and equally talented, it is just they are more Rock with some Metal and Punk influences, other than The Warning they are one of the best rock bands especially LIVE out there. Lovebites is Metal and as you got a bit of what they can do but there is so much more. Miyako/Black hair uses a Dean (now has a custom one) and a Gibson on occasion and is a big Gary Moore fan as you heard while she was soloing. Midori/Blond/ESP is more the extrovert Flash/Shred but that was her weeping guitar you heard in the intro. The M & M show are the most dynamic dual guitar leads playing LIVE today (IMHO). Every song of this band is flawless and a total guitar clinic. Asami/vocals (ex-ballerina with a R & B/Jazz/Soul background) never sang a metal song till she joined this band. The backbone as you know is the bassist, Miho (founder) and little 4' 9" Haruna on that drum kit, they power this band despite little Shine Time of their own. Pick anything else to listen to next, there is not a bad song from this group. Hal-Ca is 16 y.o. and a force of nature (If Hendrix had a granddaughter you are listening to her) and Miyu on the 7 string bass is 17 y.o. here. The video shows the string work of both up close and the drummer Mio is on par with both of these insanely talented musicians. These petite models strap on high heels and white dresses to be seen on stage but also become Metal Goddesses as you just experienced!!!

Miyako, the black haired guitarist is a full studied concert pianist, playing piano since the age of three and just started to play guitar with 18. Check out "Swan song with Chopin Etude/Intro) to see what she is really capable of 😍 Of course you can also do a "real" video for "Glory to the world" 😂 Big fan of Nightwish and Lovebites here, but also Within Temptation, Epica and Ancient Bards. Especially Ancient Bards is highly underrated, so i would be happy if you liked to check them out. There are however not much high quality live videos, so better take their official videos of "In my arms" and "Impious Dystopia". Also, what about something from good old germany ? Akane from Band-Maid has an upright stance due to having had a back injury in 2016. I believe she has used a back brace to correct her posture.

Haruna is called "Pocket Nuke" because she's 4'9 and so fast and precise the star cymbals she just spins them at times

I remember one more thing, You were a kind'a puzzled with abrupt end of the clip. That is because, this song directly connects to the last song of the live show which is We the United. You'll here incredible fast and energetic 2 minute twin guitar running. You need to hold your jaw with your hand. So....you should try those pieces together. And one more, in the case you try Swan Song, you must play it with the preceding truck Shopin Revolutionary Etude. Those two are one set, a suite. Excellent and fair review. This is the second song from the very end of almost 2 hour live. About the star cymbal, she spins it when she starts or ends to play. The guitar, a heavily modified Dean USA Icon. The pianist is the black haired guitarist with the Dean, and she actually is a concert pianist who also plays guitar. Again, very nice review.

A nice and very observant reaction. I think you are in for a real journey, since Lovebites is one of the fastest evolving bands I know. The have released 3 Albums and 3 EPs in about 4 years of existence, each sounding a little bit different than the previous ones. AFAIK did Haruna and Akane attend the same Music school. Haruna usually has a much more upright posture, this was the second to last song of a 90 min. concert with a 15 min. encore still coming up, so I guess she used the relative slow pace (for Lovebites) of the song to relax her muscles a bit. All female rock and metal bands have a long history in japan, going back to the 70s and 80s. But the emphasis of the contrast between what you see and what you hear gained popularity about a decade ago with bands like Aldious, Galmet and Destrose, the band Miho, the bassist and Haruna, the drummer played in before.

Edge of the World in this concert is the second-to-last song and the abrupt end is due to the last song, We the United, begins immediately. Seeing/hearing it right after conveys the 'vibe' of LOVEBITES more clearly. I am a bit surprised you didn't comment of the latter verses which I find to be of profound significance in today's (USA) world. "Don't fear standing up, don't ever give it up" and "keep your dignity, stay true to who you are" are admonitions that 'find a home' in my 'being', more-so every day. "Mom" says no 'subbing' on first 'reaction' so I'll wait to see what LOVEBITES song you choose next. I will try to link "Rising" in a reply.

Glory To The World is a great song - but this is a masterpiece. So many influences from so many legendary bands - from Guns 'n Roses to Dio-era Rainbow to Helloween, and othef hints buried deep. The pianist is also Miyako the dark haired guitarist. She switches between both on Rising, Swan Song, Empty Daydream. As a Nightwish fan, you will love Dystopia Symphony from Lovebites' new EP. It's a composition worthy of Tuomas Holopainen. It is bound to become a live favourite.

What to recommend next . . . if you want to hear some studio stuff, I'd recommend either "Shadowmaker," which was off of their first album, "When Destinies Align," which is their most viewed video, or the video to the actual "Glory to the World." "Winds of Transylvania" is another good one, and it was written for an anime called Vlad Love (which may actually be one word, not two). You asked what guitar Miyako, the brunette pianist and guitarist, is playing. For most of this show, she plays a Dean Icon. On a few songs she plays a Gibson Les Paul. Her piano is a Roland. Midori, the other guitarist, and Miho, the bass guitarist, both play ESP. Haruna plays Pearl drums and Sabian cymbals. On Haruna's Twitter, she has a pic from late February detailing which cymbal is what. Another tweet talks about how her cymbals have to be adjusted in millimeters for her height. Regarding BAND-MAID, they are quite aware of how they dress versus how they play and how both mess with perceptions. LOVEBITES knowingly does the same thing wearing all white or white and gold. I reject the idea of comparing the two, or of comparing them to Babymetal, Unlucky Morpheus, Asterism, Ningen Isu, or Wagakki Band. It's unfair and pointless. I prefer to enjoy the groups I like for their own unique personalities and strengths, and especially for how their music makes me feel.

I don't think it's so much to "throw people off" as much as just showing that you can be pretty and play rock/metal equally as good without making angry faces or being sweaty old men with bad hair XDD But I agree that of course the costumes/dresses are their "thing" to make them recognizable :) I know that at least Lovebites have said in an interview that they choose the color white to make them stand out more on stage because they're all so short :'D

this is late, but since i liked your reaction, i felt i had to makethis statement. i grew up hearing people like, jimi page, eric clapton,carlos santana, just to name few. and these ladies can keep up with any of them. keep listening to them.

You mixed up two different songs there! You have the cover of "Glory to the World" but played the video of "Edge of the World". It doesn't matter however because they're both bangers. In fact, out of the nearly fifty songs in their repertoire, there are no bad songs from this band. The pianist did get up from the piano and pick up her guitar. She's the dark haired lady on the cool looking Dean guitar, stage left (right as you look at it). She, Miyako, is an awesome musician, the quiet and cerebral genius in the band, with a background as a classical pianist who shares the formidable twin guitar attack with Midori on the ESP and writes a lion's share of the music. The bass guitarist is called Miho and she is the band's founder; an ex Destrose player and an unrepentant metalhead. She formed the band with an ex Destrose drummer, Haruna. You noted that Haruna leans forward over her drums. Well she sort of has to. She's a tiny little pixie of a girl; only 4'9". If she didn't lean forward she wouldn't be able to reach! The singer Asami was originally an R&B singer before joining the band. This is her first foray into metal music. At 4'10" she's another diminutive lady (god only knows where that power comes from!) and her flowing grace and elegance on stage is the result of her background as a classically trained ballet dancer. Collectively this is one of the most exciting metal bands on the planet at the moment. They have adopted the wolf as their animist symbol and, since they always perform in white dresses, they are known as "The White Wolves" in Japan. Their fan base calls itself "The Wolf Pack". I discovered this band three years ago, when hardly anybody knew them, and was instantly captivated. Since then it has been my delight to watch them gradually gather fans and recognition. They deserve it for you'll not find a more talented or more hard working band anywhere. I envy you that you have just found them for you have all their riches still to uncover.

Miho Miho Miho!

This is a very interesting band. You can only label them as "Metal" - they play thrash, speed, power and old-school heavy metal before all the sub genres. They are absolutely amazing. I still have to find a song i dislike. You can't go wrong, but a personal favorite is Holy War - the solos, man!. Avoid the Bloodstock videos, the audio mix is very bad. Other than that, you can't go wrong. Sabaton and Lovebites in the same channel? You've got my sub ;-)

This song was the number 18 or 19 in this concert Between a lot of other songs, must check "The Crusader", this song is a tribute to "Aces High" from Iron Maiden and it´s really good Dammit, all the songs from this band are great. This song is a reminiscent song of the '70s prog-rock and nothing more, a song of pure magical layers that no longer exists, something Rush was very well known for making several songs as one song and it is done masterfully. Yeah, I would laugh at the idea that Lovebites is just like BM, that band, in the beginning, was doing ok but later stooped into the mainstream crap and made their way to poppy, It is what it is. Lovebites on the other hand are something way different and a force to reckon with. Apparently, you got your songs confused with Glory to the World and Edge of the World but that's ok, you picked the perfect song of Lovebites to be introduced to their talent in its true form, there is no other band that is better, but to each their own. It's quite obvious that you are into symphonic metal or rather operatic metal if you will. something I consider a joke IMO it does not blend with me at all. Hopefully, it doesn't end here for you and you continue on this journey with Lovebites, in time you will see the huge difference between many bands and Lovebites.
