It still amazes me how many people have yet to hear of Lovebites since they are, in my opinion and that of many others, one of the premier metal bands on the planet right now... male or female. At the same time as being amazed, I am also slightly envious. I can still recall the thrill of excitement I experienced when encountering this band for the first time. Those who have not yet come upon them still have that exhilarating discovery to come. It’s fun watching the reaction because it’s always the same… open mouthed, wide eyed and, 99 times out of 100, a broad smile (plus gratuitous use of words like “holy shit”, “amazing” “WTF” and “badass”. You’re spot on in sussing that they’re good live. We have news for you, they’re BETTER live … yes, I know, sounds far fetched but in Lovebites case it’s actually true. And the best thing about Lovebites is they sing their song with English. I know music is a universal language, but being able to know and understand right away what they are singing is much much better experience imho.

The cool thing about Japan is that women have been kicking ass in every heavy genre since the late 70s, and in metal specifically since the early 80s. Lovebites are one of the latest (and quite possibly the best), but there were many before them. There were a good two dozen all-female heavy metal bands in Japan just in the 80s alone. Mary's Blood are another one of the best, but unfortunately their best material's not on youtube. The newer bands have figured out how to use social media to promote themselves, so they're getting most of the attention. About time someone is.
There is loads with all female hard/rock bands from Japan. One of the first one is Show-Ya and they had 35 years anniversary last year.. their song Lovers is awesome! .Next with Lovebiets: When Destinies Align MV for epic guitar solos, Glory to the World MV for awesome voice and drumming, a song from the band to their fans in this dark times of pandemic. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels sent to save us, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. They have themselves said in interviews that part of their mission is to save heavy metal from darkness and obscurity. Some background: They were formed from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief metalhead and soul of the band) recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuke”); they went and found the two guitarists, Midori and Miyako, who were with other bands, and the whole group then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time. Miho and Miyako compose most of their music, in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer, but Midori has also been getting into the act. Asami writes a lot of the lyrics. They have only been around for just shy of 5 years. They studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Slayer etc. and they pretty much aced it all. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance is that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and it seems clear they’re taking it to another level. They ware like women and they don't pretend what they aren't but their power is just limitless. Their sound is as good as Enrico Caruso. And your sense is very sharp. Yes, you've got try their live. Try Chopin Revolutionary Etude with Swan song live at Zepp Diver City Tokyo 2020. The Etude and Swan Song are different independent tracks but they are one set like a suite. You spoke of hearing only one singer. Asami is the primary vocalist, especially in their studio stuff, but Midori, Miyako, and Miho all sing backing vocals during certain songs. One of the best examples of that is the live version of "Empty Daydream," a somewhat slower song for them where Miho, the bass guitarist, and Miyako, the brunette guitarist, both sing significant and lovely backing vocals. Liked and subbed. Saw your reaction yesterday for Nightwish which I loved. Then I saw you were doing Lovebites today and I was hoping you would like them too. At the moment they are probably my two favourite bands so as far as I'm concerned you have impeccable musical taste. For Lovebites I would recommend Holy War next. Another band you may also like is The Warning. Again keeping with the female rock theme they are three young sisters 16, 19 and 21 from Mexico. Not quite as metal but really heavy. The metal community seems to be very embracing of women in bands, I think. Not everyone, of course, there are always "those people", but... Anyway, great bands such as this and Band-Maid, Crypt, Nervosa, Burning Witches, Nemophila (brand new!) and many others kick some serious ass.
