I loved your reaction to this, Aileen. More tracks by Dire Straits, "Brothers in Arms", "Romeo and Juliet", "Private Investigations", "Money for Nothing", "Walk of Life", "Telegraph Road" there are plenty of other tracks but these are good ones to start with.
Aileen, the reason Mark Knopfler's voice is so rich is that he was raised the North East of England, my neck of the woods. He is telling a story of when he nipped into a pub in London on a rainy day and caught a band playing. The have been immortalized as the Sultans of Swing. If you liked that you will love "Money for Nothing." Keep the reactions coming. Love them.
Wish I could remember which documentary had him and Brian Johnson wandering round their childhood haunts, at Spanish City by the Tunnel Of Love inscriptions pointing at the places they used to play.
@@spads1971 That's just either Mark or Brian's channel.. ... You're right though... just two old pals walking around their home town chatting about old times.
I’ve only just found your channel now, I think the algorithm probably recommended this to because of the song choice. But DAMN you clearly appreciate music, instantly subbing 😊 the fact you didn’t break your smile once in the whole song says you’re my kind of people 😊 much love ❤️
As a fan for 40 years or more, it’s a joy to see someone else discover and appreciate their brilliance. I’d recommend “Telegraph Road” from the same concert as a good next step. There are lots of steps to come though. It’s surprising that as one of the biggest bands of the 1980’s worldwide, they sometimes feel all but forgotten these days.
A beautiful rock and roll smile is worth more than a thousand sunsets. You have to know they did it for people like you who can appreciate it. Wake me up from a coma I'll dig some impressive drums and love of music.
The story that I’ve heard about Terry Williams, the drummer on this is that his father was in the audience for this live show, and it was the first time his father had ever had the opportunity to see him perform, so even though he was already an amazing drummer, he pushed it as far as he possibly could for this show to impress his father. It really is incredible to listen to. The Alexa, what time is it? Hey Siri VoiceOver off hey Siri VoiceOver off hey hey Siri VoiceOver off Siri VoiceOver off whole band are amazing musicians.
Aileen, I'm glad I watched you again, you are special. To have taken in and absorbed so quickly so much going on is a talent on full display that you are sharing with us. For us musicians and many others Dire Straits was always a favorite special band.
If you haven't done it already, I think you'd love the Frog Leap Studios cover of Sultans of Swing. I grew up with the original from Dire Straits and I still love it, but the Frog Leap cover is my new favorite. Adds some serious metal to the song and it just SLAMS!! So glad you liked this one.
Mark Knopfler, Lead guitar, vocals Hal Lindes, Rhythm Guitar. John Illsey, Bass Guitar Terry Williams, Drums Alan Clark, keys And for these shows, guest additional keys, Tommy Mandel.
What a legendary performance. To me, nothing beats watching a band enjoy themselves on stage. A good performance is fine, but when I know and see they are having more fun than anyone else in the stadium - that means the world to me as an audience member. Another band that really always appreciates and entertains an audience is Avatar. Although a completely different genre of music, I saw them live and they really stole the show simply because you could tell they were enjoying themselves and not just putting on a show. They were _enjoying_ putting on the show.
Hi 👋 Aileen thanks again for another fantastic reaction my friend 😀 if liked this song you might like money for nothing, the walk of life, romeo and juliet, brothers in arms 😊
Great reaction. I love the way so many Dire Straits songs tell a story. The album version of this tune really puts you into the bar he's singing about. For an alternative version of Sultans of Swing, Leo Moracchioli did a metal cover with Mary Spender which is worth a look.
I've always felt that Mark Knopfler was underrated as a guitarist, because his lead playing isn't as flashy as a lot of lead rock and metal guitarists. But he plays with such finesse and dynamics!
Well I'm a drummer because of Dire Straits. I saw them live back in 1992 I was 17. And going out of the stadium they were playin' in I said to myself 'I wanna be a drummer'. The thing is that for this song Sultans of Swing they brought another drum kit all the way to the front of the stage (the drums and percussions were up there on the built set). So I was close to the stage and I watched the drummer bang those drums without missing any stroke. This is one of my favorite musical moments of my life
Band members are: Lead guitar and vocals - Mark Knopfler Rhythm guitar - Hal Lindes Bass guitar - John Illsley Drums - Terry Williams Keyboards - Alan Clark
The first time I heard this version of this song was in 1984: my dad gave me a double cassete tape with the whole live show! I was 6 or 7 years old and it was the first rock'n'roll album I have ever owned. Pure gold!! Thank you, Dad ;-)
I really enjoyed your reaction and appreciate the joy you exude when listening to these fantastic performances by the band. You're a naturally pretty woman, but a true beauty when reflecting the musical mastery of these artists. The power of music is amazing.
I. First heard THIS. As I was serving in Germany. I Had no idea what it was. I Had to wait until the Guy that recorded it returned from. Vacation To find out what the group was. And what other music they had . From the moment I heard I've. Loved it
I've been a fan of Dire Straits ever since MTV first played "Money For Nothing" all those many years ago, but this is the first time that I heard a recording of them live. WOW ! That must have been a fantastic concert. I can almost imagine the drummer downing gallons of Red Bull to keep that pace for the whole evening. If anyone wants something different then I highly recommend the movie "LOCAL HERO" to which Mark wrote the score. It's a great little feel good movie if you need a smile.
Hi Aileen, check out "Money for Nothing", which was the launch song for MTV. This song started the official MTV channels introduction and prominence in music history. Mark Knowfler is the truth and has even done multiple engagements with Eric Clapton and other legends.
I caught this act in Toronto during their fist Canadian tour (1978). After the show I said "Mark Knopfler doesn't play the guitar, he IS the guitar"! I believe I was right.
Mark Knopfler’s playing was such a change from what was going on at the time: massively over amped Les Pauls played at impossible speed purely for the spectacle value. His whole sound wasn’t that far removed from the folk, blues and country roots. That CLEAN sound was nearly acoustic. If you like the subtle sound of a Stratocaster now listen to,Eric Johnson, “Cliffs of Dover.” Then go for the great Rory Gallagher, a blues-rock player from Ireland who,was arguably the most versatile, melodic blues player ever. He was asked to join the Stones - and turned them down. There are oodles of concerts of his stuff on RU-vid. Try “Double Vision” or “I Could Have Had Religion” from the 1994 Montreux Jazz fest. It’ll scare you.
Great reaction, loved it! My DS favourites are: “Expresso Love”, “Tunnel of Love”, “Once Upon A Time In The West”, “Where Do You Think Your Going”, “Wild West End”, “Your Latest Trick”. Give these a listen, you won’t regret them👍🏻🎧🎶🎸
I HIGHLY recommend Richard Thompson, one of the greatest singer/songwriter/guitarists of all time. Try "1952 Vincent Black Lightning." (I think my favourite version is from the 2006 Cambridge Folk Festival).
That's it. I give in. I didn't want to subscribe to any more channels. I have enough entertainment with who I have already. Every time I watch you I've loved it. So I'm forced to subscribe. You are good at what you do. Thank you and can't wait for more
I love your reaction, how you picking out the unique tweaks to the song band was giving it. You should see the metal version of the song done by Leo Moracchioli. It add nice twist while still honoring the original song.
Greetings and Love from Germany again 💚...Mark's guitar is a 1961 Fender Stratocaster. If you love the sound of it then you have to check out Gary Moore, in my eyes the greatest guitarist ever. He plays a 'Red Strat' too. A Fender Stratocaster from 1970. He plays also a Gibson Les Paul wich has a special, awesome sound. Gary's live performences are out of this World. Stay Safe, PrettyFlower ❤
4:31 Notice Knopfler's look at the bassist! Clearly he's telling him about how the drummer is hot. When this was recorded, DS was the hottest band IN THE WORLD, bar none.
Hi always loving your channel and reactions. I think you will really like Brothers In Arms from DIRE STRAITS Live "On The Night" concert 1993. Every reactor to this song Live that I've seen said it had an incredible effect on them. It's very emotional. Cheers All the best from Australia 👍🎸🎸
If you want bluesy but jawdropping guitar work, i can recommend you Joe Bonamassa - just got paid(its a ZZ top cover). He is a phenomenal musician and his live performance is a great expirience.
Great song and reaction I suggest Leo Moracchioli he does a great cover of this song, that has more aggressive vocals and a harder sound. Leo plays every instrument and sings, he has a huge catalog of covers and original songs
This is actually one of the few times I prefer the album over the live version. There's so much detail in the studio recording that gets lost in the live presentation. Maybe that's not the "musical purist" view, but that's the beauty of music being such a personal experience.
Sultans of Swing is a regular routine in my days, shower, brush teeth, have coffee, dress and then you go out (morning or night) with a spring in your step - seeing your reaction it may well be that medicine might work on you :)
This young lady exudes the most cheerful and infectious energy. Love it! But I do need to know if she has strange ears on the top of her head. I think we all need to know!
