Knowing this video is done by Czech actors fills me with an odd amount of joy as a Czech person myself. Both the actors and Lovejoy truly captured how the freedom felt like back then
Hello country neighbor! 👋 I'm from Poland and honestly, when I first watched this I thought it was filmed here lol. You've got some gorgeous views over there!
Honestly as a Czech person, I didn't even really pay attention to the lyrics because I just kept staring at the familiar scenery, smiling like crazy because it's in a Lovejoy video... I need to play it again to this time listen to the lyrics.
I don't think I'll ever get over how clever Lovejoy's lyrics are. With so many metaphors I've never heard before, and clever written quips just sprinkled in. Every song I hear always brings something new to it, and I love it.
the way the video highlights freedom and doing whatever you wish to make yourself happy and living life to the fullest instead of worrying about money and the way others view you. IM CRYING LOVEJOY YOU ARE WONDERFUL
And the way the relationship between money and relationships is described!!! How the chase after having more money and more stuff can make people distant from eachother (3 cars in every garage//& 6 seats between them). And how the abundance of money can make someone amoral or "wrong" (his grass is the wrong shade of green//but he can pay to make a change)
I don't know if they'll ever tell us what the song is about, Will had mentioned it on stream once that he wants the listener to interpret the songs. However, I'm pretty sure this song is about capitalist hedonism and class division. The phrase "It's golden hour somewhere", I believe, refers to the fact that, for someone, somewhere, it's golden hour. While the rest of us live in a cycle of selling our labor and buying the products of our own labor, while corporations profit. They sell us "the rope by which we'll hang ourselves" in the form of sports cars, Rolexs, and even green lawns. This prevents the creation of generational wealth and keeps us happy enough to continue working for the bare minimum.
I mean that's close, but it's important to take into account that in the end it seems to be a loop, the three main boys will go on to kick the two other boys hat causing the events in the video to happen again with a new group, an endless cycle
@@evilblueman4208 I think the lyrics and the music video are supposed to have an inverse relationship in the way where the video depicts what your life SHOULD be like whereas the lyrics are about what life shouldn't be about. The lyrics discuss the dangers in revolving your life around the societal views of success and focusing on the value of money. Since life is so short, if you try to fit yourself in between the lines of what society thinks is right all the time and trying to always "make money" and "work", you miss on the beauties of life that you would get if you just focused on what you want for yourself. The end serves as a reflection for the boys, showing them what they would've been but aren't, now that they set themselves free. The confines of money and society is a never-ending loop, it exists everywhere, but it doesn't mean you- yourself- have to force yourself to stay in it!
This whole music video feels like a couple of kids finding happiness even during hard times, they grow and have fun together, truly an amazing song and video.
I think it's about the unhealthy cycle of capitalism where the boys have so much fun, but in the end they became what they hated. How the video begins with some rich dudes kicking the poor dudes hat and now the poor dudes become rich and are back to where they came from, presumably resuming the cycle.
_"His grass is the wrong shade of green, but he can pay to make a change"_ _"So tell me, is it normal to TOTALLY LOSE YOUR MIND"_ _"They'll sell you the rope by which you'll hang yourself"_ This are all such good and sad lyrics, love it
This ep is the best I've heard in years. As far as the lyrics and the composition of the song as well as the rhythm and all the wonderful work of the guys is incredible. the songs have rhythm in addition to a very nice meaning and with metaphors that are not common that is what makes lovejoy special, I love the rhythm of the song and the entire ep, it is simply incredible.❤️
IM CRYING THIS WAS FILMED RIGHT NEXT TO THE PLACE WHERE IM LIVING AND THE FACT THAT I LISTEN TO LOVEJOY UNIRONICALLY 24/7 MAKES THIS SO HARD TO BELIEVE ....
I can’t believe they’re not our silly little band anymore..It makes me wanna cry of happiness for them, you should see the look when I see a new post here lol- I squealed and jumped and literally called my friend in the middle of the night for this and the new album!
@@builtinaday_2373 they're very silly , and lovejoy was rather little around 2020 , their audience is getting bigger and reaching out further past the fanbase they already had if that makes sense.
@@margierathtbh it's definitely smaller if compared to where they're now. But i wouldn't say lovejoy ever had a "small Band" phase since their first song got millions of Listeners on youtube alone in like 2 days
Proud to see Czech republic in here. Proud to see you guys evolve. I'm just incredibly happy, overjoyed with this new EP and especially this song. Thank you!
It is, so you’re under arrest. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in court. You have the right to talk to a lawyer for advice before we ask you any questions. You have the right to have a lawyer with you during questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you before any questioning if you wish. If you decide to answer questions now without a lawyer present, you have the right to stop answering at any time.
i am genuinely so so in awe of how clever the construction of this song AND the whole album is. you guys do something so few artists do-you write lyrics that are consistently intelligent, wry, and tongue-in-cheek THROUGHOUT, instead of just having The One Quotable Line. the thematic cohesion is so so apparent, the despair and tiredness of life and mutually toxic relationships and self-loathing and a scathing takedown of upper-class apathy and it's just INSANE to listen to and unpick!! i also love love love that lovejoy as a band has their littke tics now-the themes and motifs they keep coming back to. the hypochondria (no doubt carried over from ycgma :D), the guitar riffs and drums, the toxic relationships and anger toward the people in power. so so excited for the first official album when it drops :)
Lovejoy never disappoints me, they have that charm that not alot of pepole has, in fact, its rarley seen. Thank you Lovejoy, for every hard work you put in to your music. Thank you, for everything.
It gives of life in a village in the Czech Republic, and as a Czech person I love it! And the EP is really good! Also Jondra did a great job, I’ve been a fan of them since the beginning at TikTok, great job!
"I won't announce my sheer descent but holy f*ck there will be signs." is such a raw line that unfortunately applies heavily to our reality. Many try so hard to not let others know that their mental state is declining, and yet there are so, _so_ many signs. Signs that those suffering will clearly see in themselves, and will not stop them because in reality they _want_ someone to notice the signs. They _need_ someone to see them suffering in silence because they're too scared or proud to find help on their own. And yet, when it's finally over, the people they left behind will say they wish they saw the signs. The glaring, neon signs, unnoticed by colorblind bystanders.
Your comment is very well written and sadly true, but I appreciate the writing of the sentence, “The glaring, neon signs, unnoticed by colorblind strangers” very much
@@MadsH5859 Haha occasionally I feel like waxing poetic, even if I'm aware of the drama behind the line I also thought it was pretty. Thank you for the compliment!
a reminder that you can make something out of nothing, so even if you think you have nothing you shouldn't give up. even in the hard times, you will never be alone
everyone's talking about how this song resembles freedom and whatnot, but look at the end! the boys turned into the very thing they didn't want to be and the cycle just keeps on repeating!!
Good luck guys, you are the best. Each album, each song is perfect.
Something I like about Lovejoy is that there aren't just good songs that are catchy, but it's the kind of song that makes you think when you listen to it a few times. The lyrics are really clever.
Genuinely feel bad for all the people listening to lovejoy who havent heard of the wilbur drama I kinda dont want them to find out and ruin their preception of this band and music in general
i love this so much! i was so sad when u said u were scrapping golden hour so when i heard it was back i was so happy!!!! the song is amazing, the lyrics are amazing the music video is amazing. YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING!!! love you kings!!
This is such a beautiful music video. This was definitely the way to go. I absolutely love this song and the message the music video encapsulates is so beautiful.
Truly impressive that they can make a music video that matches the song PERFECTLY. Lovejoy can't keep getting away with this, banger after banger. Rock on.
I feel very happy and appreciated with including of the Czech actors. As a Czech person I feel like there is not much representation for us. Thank you so much for this amazing video! Also the lyrics and the music altogether is amazing!
It's sad it got age restricted, we need to get more people to watch this masterpiece Es triste que recibiera restricción de edad, está genial el video y ni se diga la canción, necesitamos que más gente vea esta obra maestra
its a good thing it was age restricted. yeah it sucks less ppl will watch it but the video literally shows someone trying ti hang themselves which could be extremely triggering
im so lucky i watched it before the restriction lo. if you want to rewatch it, search up the song name and video and a spanish subtitles one is not age restricted :D
yeah it's stupid. youtube has weird policies when it comes to demonetization. there's nothing +18 in this video (ppl have pointed out the hanging bit but that was only for a moment and not graphic. could have used a tw maybe but this still isn't adult content)
I really like Lovejoy's music..it's good! And it helps me take refuge from my family problems sometimes. I am very interested in music, I also use it to concentrate, since lately I have started to dedicate myself to painting. Anyway, it's not long since I listen to his band and I love all the songs! (I'm sorry if my English is bad.. I'm Mexican and lately I'm learning English)
It feels like a week ago that I was in this same position when pebble brain was dropped and it’s all I listened to for months on end. But seriously, so proud of you guys, you and your music have been there for me when it’s all I had and I can’t explain in words how much you mean to me. Thank you ❤ P.s. come to Australia pls 🙏
my math teacher saw we were listening to lovejoy because we were talking about it and she said" Are you guys alright?" because after she looked at this song and most people said something like heh no. SHE SHOWED IT TO THE WHOLE CLASS!😭
YOU DID NOT. you guys literally have the best taste, the music sound has improved so much and it’s sick!! I can’t believe you guys filmed with jondra :’) AMAZING!!!
Another great LOVEJOY album!!! I love all the songs, the improvement is clear at every new ep, and how you guys get more comfortable with your own work, proud to be here from the start ❤️❤️ MUCH LOVE FROM BRAZIL 🇧🇷
It has been an absolute pleasure to watch/listen to you guys grow and improve. I am so proud of ya’ll and love this ep so much. Here’s to more success 🫶 music video was fabulous btw, many thanks to Jondra films
the symbolism in this song and video is impeccable. This might not be accurate but to me it seems to portray a protagonist who wishes for something more, a more fulfilling life but in the process somehow comes to the realisation that it’s not what they want and in fact they have become the thing they feared/hated most. The line ‘they’ll sell you the rope by which you’ll hang yourself’ seems like some sort of mockery of the American dream. They’ll sell you the idea of freedom, wealth and a lavish lifestyle but in the end, it’s not what they make it out to be, and it will become your downfall. I’m not sure, but I really enjoyed it
It's always so awesome to see my favorite artists collaborate. Especially when they fit so perfectly. Thanks to every single person who brought us this💛
