Lover's Lane Murders 

Great interview. I worked with Andy in Fayetteville, NC and he was just the sweetest young man. I am also a crime advocate for a child's unsolved cold case murder in PA, so I understand the frustrations of the rusty wheels of justice. This interview needs to be shared and shared and shared. Thank you for giving this a platform.

Thank you for covering Cheryl & Andy's case for all of us. My husband is Andy's cousin that Garland refers to as his brother. We are all very grateful for your help and coverage on their murder.

I just heard about this case as I was a guest on Denny Griffin's TTP Radio podcast and Mr. Atkinson was a guest as well. I feel his pain and this is such a horrible story. Hoping you and Cheryl's family get justice soon. Do not give up! We just keep fighting...

This just validated all my instinct about HPD. There is just so much more to this story. I’ve tried for years to get public nationally, involved... I don’t get it.

Someone recently posted about these murders n Facebook and it got my interest. I had a friend (Tara Breckenridge) that went missing back in August 1992. She worked as a waitress at the Men’s Club in Houston. It was reported that the night she went missing it was a slow night a work and she volunteered to leave early which was unusual for her because she needed the money. Her boyfriend, Wayne Hecker, was at a pool hall not far away and it was reported that he left during the time Tara would have been gone from work. Wayne and Tara had difficulties in their relationship which I can remember vaguely when I think back on that summer in 1992. It was reported that she was planning on leaving Wayne. The night of her disappearance, Wayne returned to the pool hall where he was hoping to get a job as a bartender. That night he arrived home at 5am. Tara and Wayne lived together and when Tara was not at home Wayne stated that he went out to search for her. He found her abandoned car on the freeway and it was discovered that the alternator belt was cut. Her emergency blinkers were not on, the car was locked and the car alarm was not set. A small canister of mace that she carried was out in plain site in the car. Wayne Hecker was a suspect but there was insufficient evidence to bring charges. Wayne Hecker died of cancer in 2015. That case reminds me of this one here with the abandoned car most likely the scene of the abduction the link to night clubs/exotic clubs, victims of almost identical ages, etc. There’s probably no direct connection but it certainly made me stop and think for a moment. Cases like Tara’s and this one are heartbreaking because there is no justice at least that we can see. I know in the end the Lord brings justice one way or another but I can’t imagine being a family member going through this. Ultimately it’s in the Lords hands and I trust in Him to work things out even though it’s hard to know why these things happen. I feel terrible for both families and I pray for the Lord to bring closure and for it to come very soon!

The killer had to be in the strip club circuit, definitely military or law enforcement. “Strippers, knifes, rope knot style. Love interest with her, andy just got caught in the middle. Second terrorized victims boyfriend owed money to the linked dna killer. He had to know the killer. “Military stance” she was a stripper during the same era. They know who the guy is!!

Hi, great interview. I’m not sure whether I missed it or not, but what did Garland think about the identikit picture that was released? I think it’s very telling that Cheryl was killed first. If her rape was the objective, he would have killed Andy first. Also, in the first attack a few months earlier, the rapist had expected the boyfriend to be with the victim (hence him asking where ‘Randy’ was). I think for some reason the anger was directed at Andy...the killer wanted him to see what he was doing to Cheryl...therefore making himself feel more power over Andy. Yes, he raped Cheryl but it was just to make the male victim feel powerless and mentally torture him. It’s also interesting that Andy was almost decapitated - he seemed to have been attacked with more violence. Just in regards to Andy being an aspiring model - would he have met any shady people that way? I think they were followed from the club, but I don’t think the killer knew them. I think he was pissed off/threatened by Andy’s looks (and probably confidence).
