ENCOUNTER OF A LIFETIME: 6-year-old Nickybun lived those years without somebunny to love her. Now witness her first moments of bunnylove captured by her foster mama, as Bonbon - a blind sweet soul, gives Nickybun what she's been missing for so very long... and ohhh... the look on this dear little one's face as she stays ever so still during the luvins is simply precious beyond words.
--We rescued Nickybun at the request of her caring human who was dealing with sudden homelessness. During Nickybun's spay surgery with our Vet, she was found to have ovarian tumors; a common occurrence, which is why early spay by a rabbit-savvy Vet is vital.
❣️Nickybun has since been cleared of any metastases, and is now enjoying perfect health, and blossoming anew! She and Bonbon enjoy their warm visits of loving support, but only Nickybun is available for adoption, and will need a little forever bunnyboy with whom to bond.
✊Intrinsic to our mission is providing all our rescued bunnies with bunny bondmates. Though we have adoptable single bunnies in our foster system, none can be adopted unless bonded with an adopter's spayed/neutered bunny/bunnies... the most joyous aspect of rescue.
😌It's a bunny thing: Countless humans who've witnessed the intense phenomenon of bonded bunnies can never imagine keeping a bunny single; it's that powerful... and words fail to describe the heart-melting beauty of living in their presence. Their bunny bonds never stop evolving, and their losses of bunny partners must be handled with such care as if their lives depend on it, because they do.💔
🐰We sympathize with bunny owners who, though they wish they could, are sincerely not able to provide their single bunny with a bunny friend; life is not always the way we wish it. But keep in mind that everybunny needs somebunny to love and be loved by in the bunny way -- in fact, it is their deepest need that we can never give up trying to fulfill.
So please keep an open heart should the opportunity arise to provide a single bunny with that life-changing bunny companionship. 🐇In the meantime, give your single bun a surrogate stuffed animal for comfort, and to groom.💕
--The art of bonding bunnies is also science, and success depends on the skill and experience of the person overseeing the bunny bond. And of course, both bunnies must first be spayed/neutered at least one month prior to a bonding attempt.
--If an attempt to bond a single bunny with a bunny friend goes awry, we need not then sentence the single bunny to a life of solitude. We must learn from the bunnies, learn from our possible mistakes, and keep trying. Because no matter how much time we spend loving our single bunnies, it will never be anywhere close to enough. 24/7/365 companionship with someone of their own kind is every bunny's wish. All those hours we spend at work, or school, out with friends, running errands... sleeping... our single bunnies are awake, and lonely. Single bunnies might seem happy... but in their hearts, there is a constant yearning, and a bunny-shaped hole waiting for be filled.
🐱🐶There are homes where single bunnies might be soothed by gentle cats or dogs who the single bunny does not fear... and who might even give affection to the bunny through grooming and cuddling.
But bunnies have a language that no one other than another bunny can speak... and they deserve for us to respect that reality.
⚠️There ARE factors that can affect a bunny bond -- such as separating bonded bunnies for too long for whatever reason, strange smells from the Vet or being groomed, or consistently giving one bunny in the bond much more attention. Those issues can often be resolved through re-bonding. A bunny's health or age issues can affect the bunny bond, but are more complex, and a simple re-bonding might not be possible.
--Free-roaming bonded bunnies can also be tricky if one of bunnies is overwhelmed by too much territory to worry about, and becomes aggressive due to stress. Bunnies are so complex, and all we can do is pay attention to what they are trying to tell us. Consistent observation is the key to bunny enlightenment!
🤝Times are tough, and there are no two circumstances alike in this world of bunnies, and humans who share their lives with them. We're so grateful for your love and respect of bunnies, and we thank you for just doing your best with whatever resources and space you have available.
