Hi Al. I met you at Renton. Sorry you left Cirrus but understand and now glad you have landed well. It’s nice to see the good guys win! What city are you out of?
I really loved your perspective on flight planning. When flying out of Chicago Executive, I'm sure dealing with O'Hare's airspace and weather conditions is quite a challenge, not to mention managing runway weight limitations. Being flexible is indeed what private flying is all about. As someone currently in ground school and flying with a friend out of KARR in the Chicago suburbs and KPGD in South Florida, I find it invaluable to gain different perspectives like yours.
Hi Steve! I’m back flying a Vision Jet(s) but no longer with Cirrus. I love the Vision Jet so much. It’s an awesome plane. Where do you fly yours out of?
My goodness. Three people (190lb avg) and only 40 lbs of luggage and the SF50 is over weight with full fuel. Ummmm…I see 114 gallons available upon arrival and understand concerns with alternates. I assume min fuel landing at alternate is 45 mins or maybe 68g leaving you little fuel (~46g) to travel to alternate. Yikes. This aircraft is very limited in practical operation
IFR reserve is approximately 54 gals in SF50. I find passengers want a restroom break after a couple hours of flying, so it normally corresponds with timing of a fuel stop anyway. Rarely an issue... Of course, you can also use best economy cruise for longer endurance, burning around 55 gals per hour. Most of use fly in max continuous thrust and plan for fuel stops when needed.
Thanks for sharing this Al, this was an extremely valuable video. With the Vision Jets range, I would’ve thought it would be non-stop for sure, but I never considered the weight limits (simmer working on PPL), and other factors. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🎉
Merry Christmas! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Just a little insight. The Jet can accommodate this trip and many trips but when there is wide spread IFR and finding an alternate that can become the Achilles Heel where you need to start breaking down your trips into a couple of legs. Happy new year! When you get to be ready to take your checkride, let me know! I just recently became a DPE.
Love the realistec aspect you provide in the details of flight planning. Can you provide a link to the Denver-Scottsdale flight planning video. Cheers, Steve
Thank you! I hope you find some useful tips in there. Here is the link for the DEN to SDL trip! Feeling Proficient in a Brand New Vision Jet ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--6Wa5vLDEaw.html
