I'm so happy to see that so many more communities are being built for the unhoused and low income! I'm hoping this will continue to grow and that more states will change their home type building restrictions. Thank you for everything you guys are doing!

Love the mentoring program in Utah. My bad decision was getting a Master's from a private university...I have been paying back since 2005. I burned out on the field (psychotherapy and case management). I'm now working as a lifestyle coordinator at a senior community. I love it but the pay doesn't approach the cost of living in Reno. I'm pretty self-sufficient but as I age, working 45+ hours weekly is tiring me out. I'd love to get into a tiny home ADU or community situation in Western Washington. Maybe I could scale back work hours and explore a lifestyle coaching practice. Great video. Love the direction tiny home living is taking!

Of course, leave it to the Utahns to come up with such a unique concept. They definitely have the resources to make it happen and the open minds for such change that is needed and emergent. Unlike Nevada that just keeps blocking every attempt to help this situation .... Their problem solver involved citations and a bull dozer. I am one of those extreme low income individuals and I myself am teetering on the edge of having a home and not having one and it's definitely scary and unsettling especially when your a disabled individual like myself and rely on that money each month to survive and just one hiccup could lead you to the streets like I am also experiencing with social security continually interrupting my monthly benefits... It's sad and frustrating all I want is a home, for my long term dream/goal would be to be a tiny home owner, whether I assisted in building that home or working in lieu of actual money, of course as well as paper money that I could come up with. That would be ideal and amazing!!!! I definitely would love to volunteer my time or pay it forward.

Love what you are doing!! Thank you!! Tiny Home Communities are close to my heart. I am interested in information concerning building such a community in Laurel, MS. I started a non-profit organization when I was living in Florida, hoping to bring together other entities already working in the area of homelessness for the building of a self-sustaining village community. I started with local, city and state governments (even drove to Washington, DC and had many meetings), but was unsuccessful. Thank you!!

Thank you for reviewing these... I really want to continue learning and discovering what everybody is attempting across the USA and Canada... And even overseas... As we all need to work toward ensuring that there are housing options that meet every person's needs... So that housing can be as barrier free as possible. I would LOVE TO SEE some city or cities...or a state.. Or states... Take on the incredibox from Incredible Tiny Homes... As a permanent solution per person.. Where the home would remain in the possession of the city or state.. But assigned to an individual for life... Permanently housed... And an option of different communities that a resident could be toured through as their needs change... But heir home transitions with them like a tortoise shell... Even if everybody in need got an 8x16 or an 8x20 incredibox... As their permanent residence.. I feel that stability might help create the beginning of change for so many people facing homelessness....

Very informative and helpful video. Going tiny is taking off! I wonder how living so large ever got started in the first place. My guess is that builders figured give people big homes, and they will come. But along with that comes high mortgages, high interest rates, the high cost of maintenance, and the stress of keeping the home from foreclosures. But with tiny home living all that goes away😊. Indeed, what a relief that to live in communities where everyone is like minded and feeling that relief also must be very nice. And because they can now afford to really enjoy life, I would think a lot more are taking the vacations they wish they could have taken if it weren't for the upkeep of the large footprint they used to have. Who knows what all our communities are going to look like in the future👏.

Just found your channel. Very concerned about the unhoused in our nation. All of us need to work together for solutions. I appreciate the work you've done in providing a list of cities and communities in the US that legally support tiny homes. I think they are the solution. There is a company in TN who is building 8x16 homes on trailers with complete off grid pkg for $30K. Imagine communities with vacant lots and no infrastructure using these homes for the unhoused. Maybe non-profits could help people to own these and as they transition out of the program to take their homes with them or move them to a low income permanent spot. Or maybe even purchase at $20K the version that can be plugged in to one of those spots immediately. I don't know, I'm sure there's a lot of red tape and more to consider which is why the problem has grown instead of lessened. Larger than my brain, but continually thinking of how to connect people in power to people with resources to provide a solution.

One problem with a tiny home, I'm finding all over the country. It's all start-up cheap rent and then go up to close to $3000 and bankrupt the people. They lose their home and everything, and they have to get out. And this is happening in california. So we're staying away because there's nobody guaranteeing that you're gonna be paying $350 for the rest of your life. If your seniors and search of security 350 to $400 a month that is bet high, you go higher. You're in serious trouble. So there's no guarantee with any of the tiny home that you will be safe there of the high rent cost and utility you'll be paying.
@tennesseeterri
@tennesseeterri 5 месяцев назад
Major difference though, If rent gets too high the tiny house can be hitched up and moved to another place. People living in a trailer park long term whose rents skyrocket usually cannot move their homes due to their age. Most parks require the homes to be 5 years old or less. So they lose the home they own and are left with nothing.

With such a large platform it's important not to perpetuate the stereotype that everyone who is "unhoused" has made a "bad decision" and needs to recover from their mistakes. You are doing a huge disserve by ignoring the fact that homelessness can be caused by illness, the death of a family member, natural disasters, intimate partner abuse, unemployment, the high cost of housing, and any number of challenges that a person may not have directly caused.

The Utah Fresh Start program sounds interesting. I’m guessing there must be some strict restrictions or requirements of the home owner. I could see people being motivated to do this in order to get a free tiny house for Airbnb purposes. Wouldn’t it be better to build the tiny homes with the goal being that the unhoused people benefit long term from the newly built tiny house. I would think creating tiny home communities would be a better way to use funds unless the mentors are partially paying for the tiny house they get to keep in their back yard.

You are in a VERY serious situation there in FL, like I've never seen it in my 50+ years on this planet. Costs for housing have never skyrocketed to as high as they are right now, and with your politicians bringing in massive Tech companies and giving them tax incentives to be there, it has driven the rent in FL to all-time highs as we experience here in California (also due to massive Tech companies driving rents for 1 bedroom well above $2K/month, usually closer to $3K/month. Now, take that issue and combine it with the massive loss of housing that hurricane Ian caused....? It is beyond unaffordable. The difference being that our minimum wage is $17+/hour and in FL it's something like $11/hour. Please do take care of yourself and keep looking and connect with people by asking others to ask their friends and families for you. A lot of people don't want to become "landlords" because of the problems renters bring to that. However, if they know someone is stable and knows someone they know well, and they can vouch that you're not throwing wild parties (lol) and playing your music and television too loudly (seniors often do this due to hearing trouble), they may be open to renting to you in their backyard. Good luck, nanalinda! Wishing the best for you!

I spent over 20 years in Utah. I can't imagine volunteering to become a mentor family and discovering convicted criminals will be brought on my property to case my home and raise the prospect of another Elizabeth Smart kidnapping or other criminal incident. The tiny home concept is good. It should be developed. It should not involve criminal risk to families who are generous enough to open their lives and homes to helping people. That is an unfortunate combination that might kill the whole program. No one wants potentially violent criminals in their back yard with power tools scouting out entry points and security vulnerability. So sad for the tiny home development concept that they didn't have more common sense. I have to wonder why this Utah tiny home development organization did not choose to approach builders like Wright Sheds or even Tough Shed Recreational buildings to build these tiny home plans. I looked at their plans years ago. They are reputable and offer durable, integrated structures that easily convert to residential code. I don't have any association with either company. I would hope they use employees who are *not* criminals. It is pretty appalling if helping means potential criminal attacks on the helpers.

Some of these ideas are very costly! Perhaps not for the people in them, but certainly for the community at large. Especially that last project seems to throw money away, like it is nothing! I bet a lot of tax dollars go there. That could have been a lot more affordable and still nice.
@karld1791

How is a tiny home community better than a multistory apartment building? A taller building could have more units in a smaller space. That’d be more units for the price of the land. It could be closer to jobs and schools and such. Maybe the tiny homes would be cheaper to build. If the land is expensive the apartment building is probably a better use of the land. So tiny home communities will probably be further from jobs requiring more cars and driving which also cost the residents.
@katydid2877
@katydid2877 Год назад
I was thinking they’re trying to get away from the “projects” concept. Projects within cities are often prone to drug and gang activity, and other crimes. Lots of places to slip away, hide, hide from security or police, etc. Having your own space is way better than that and easier to provide security, if needed. Maybe they provide a shuttle bus that gets people to jobs or public transportation hubs.
@tennesseeterri
@tennesseeterri 5 месяцев назад
Apt. Buildings cost tons to build. Add in elevators, fire suppression, etc. Tiny homes done properly won't cost a lot and would be homier. Tiny home village would be like a little neighborhood with opportunities to garden in your own little yard/patio. Creates a sense of community.
@karld1791
@karld1791 5 месяцев назад
@@tennesseeterri I can see how tiny homes would be cheaper to build than an apartment per unit. Though they’d have to be on larger and cheaper land to match the units in a taller apartment. That’s usually further from jobs and public transit so tiny homes could help house people though it wouldn’t make it easier for them to work.

Not all communities for poor people. This is amazing for those who qualify. Often many of those can’t pass the background. But are good people. Sadly their background prevents them from getting help. They’re for people who also want to reduce their footprint and have realized having all that space and paying for everything about those spaces and not using so much of it nor needing it…smart people to me.

Are there any communities that are either already built or will be built in the future that are bigger than 400 sq ft here in USA? ( I prefer something around 650+ sq ft) as for a small home. I currently reside here in Vegas. I have been here since October of 2021 beginning in Henderson then having moved out from my sister's Home (residing in a Casita) which I did not care for; Personality conflict with her husband. I am now in an Apt and will be moving to another location due to 1) Overall Costs 2) Tenant conflicts (I basically can't do much without someone complaining about who and what I am as a solo female who has been working UBER EATS and recently signed up to be a Lyft Driver. I enjoy cycling/camping but the tenants who often GOSSIP about me; They basically go nowhere and do next to nothing. This is what I have been running from for years; I took of my father for about three years and he too gradually did not allow me to do much too. I was basically his prisoner. The same thing as had resided in my sister's Casita; her husband is somewhat of a Controlling person. I could not do much either without him complaining. All what I do as for leisure activity to enjoy life a little is also very cost effective....versus the wealthy OMG! They cost everyone a lot because of their excessive insatiable need of their type of entertainment or personal fancies! I would really rather invest in a small home that I can afford rather than wasting all my hard earned money into renting :( Any advice?

Sure sounds good program. What if you are disabled by illness. I do have accountant degree . So I can contribute my skills. I am in a home with severe mold. Landlord won't make repairs and I habe a no fault eviction need to be out in month. No were to go. On disability from the big c. Need more no info . Please help me obtain a worker to help me obtain all requirements to start in low income programs. Thank you

?? You want feedback but only positive? I'll honor your request but it is unfortunate because you're actually off to a good start that could become great if you ever decide you're ready to hear constructive criticism, i.e., things I did not like or think that you could improve. Thanks for the info about low income tiny houses. My curiosity is piqued.

No indoor tours. How do you inspire people to go there? Thumbs down for that reason.
