This repair worked, not because the oil bypass valve was replaced but because the oil pressure limit valve was, the aluminum housin of the piston was worn and possibly the piston itself, added to a possible spring wear, leaded to a iddle low oil pressure .
Thanks for the effort. You'll notice the set screw not far from the thermostat housing. If you remove that set screw, you can fill through the radiator and the air will leave the head through the set screw port. Much easier than removing the thermostat. Also, if you spray the engine compartment with purple power degreaser, then rinse with a hose, you will have a much cleaner work environment, and less stuff to get inside the engine and all over your hands. :)
The bypass valve bypasses the FILTER if the filter gets clogged and protects the engine, if it's bypassing when it shouldn't, it won't show as a low oil pressure reading, though if the filter is clogged then you could have a bit lower pressure The relief valve seat being worn could be a problem on a lot of high mileage trucks
A bad injected can and will leak by the piston cylinder there oil passages thru the valve train and stops into your crank case so it’s not a myth it’s a real thing I promise you that! But great video and super appreciative of the videos!
I just did this on my 03 cummins I had no oil pressure on start up. Had to give it throttle to bring up the pressure then it was fine. Rook it apart and did both gaskets and the oil pressure relief valve. Hopefully it fixed it!
Interesting but the brass valve you replaced is the oil filter bypass it opens if the filter gets plugged up or restricts the flow. It wont effect oil pressure it just bypasses the filter. The steel piston with the aluminum seat in the cover is the pressure relief valve replacing the cover fixed the leak past the valve and i guess more heat meant thinner oil and it leaked off more pressure. go buy a lottery ticket you lucked out. 99 times out of 100 its main or cam bearing clearances that cause the drop off of oil pressure when it warms up.
It’s been a while since your comment but we have a ISL9 It’s doing the same thing as this truck but it has just below 40k miles Think the bearings still the cause or should go for the oil cooler housing?
I cant figure mine out. Oil pressure was checked woth a guage and it's normal, but drops to zero and back up erratically for some reason. Swapped out the oil pressure sensor and pigtail, but to no avail. I might try this.
i am having a delay in building oil pressure (approx 5 seconds). My engine knocks until it gets the oil pressure. Do you think these valves are not closing fully? 98.5 cummins
Another thing I meant to say is Power Driven diesel sells a oil pump from a 8.3 that’s been milled down to fit in the 5.9 block and flows 42% more oil! You would have to get he common rail pick up tube because it’s 1 inch and bigger than the gen 1 and 2!
Injector copper washers is where the diesel will leak from and can cause higher level on the oil dipstick (Dilution) !! leaks can occur too from the diesel spill line over the injectors! This WILL cause oil dilution too ;)
Just replaced injectors on my 01 after getting a lot of fuel in the oil. Started her and she ran great, 60psi on dash at cold start. Once up to temp she was right below 40 cruising at 60mph and then at the stop light she was right above the lower left mark… truck had fresh t4 rotella in it and dipstick was good before starting. Parked her at the restaurant and came back out and checked oil level and she was below the limit by a lot. Friend thinks that after sitting for a month I drained out more than 3 gallons. Gonna hook up a gauge to the oil supply on the housing and check from there when she’s cold and warm. Hoping it’s just the sending unit maybe. Any suggestions?
If it leaked oil while sitting it would be on the ground. Check the antifreeze Oil can mix with coolant. The oil has to be going somewhere. I don't know how many miles but bad rings can cause fuel to go in to the oil and burn a lot of oil.
Quick question for you also how do you make these video clips I'm trying to put together my own video blog and I'm trying to learn how to do this type of stuff I know how to put like a video on RU-vid but I don't know how to add all these extra features
I have a Chrysler 300C I change the oil pump switch I changed the oil pump connectors PVC valve crankshaft sensor and my oil light is still on they changed the oil switch three times in the engine light is still on I'm starting to think it might be my oil pump any suggestions
@@Glennfix what year is your truck? I'm getting ready to put the valve in a 1998 12 valve. My pressure doesn't vary as much as yours with temp but I did swap the sending unit and it looks to run 10 at idle warm and 20 at 2,000 rpms warm.
@@Glennfix Since mine is marine engine and im living in NYC and not somewhere in Alaska i consider that having this relief valve is big mistake nothing else thats why i put cooler back without it. My engine is 2004 but i have also the other 6bta which is 1999 and there is no such a thing relief valve in cooler housing)
@2:52 Uhhhh..... .... Broken o-rings on an injector can cause 3% fuel dilution in a heavy-duty 14L semi-truck-tractor engine within a week.... That's enough loss of lubricity to cause where on bearing surfaces and oil pump gears... I'm just notifying....
