www.motorcyclet... In this video, a response to a request to see low speed maneuvering on a sport bike, we explore how to master low speed motorcycle control on a sport bike using clutch-throttle-rear brake control, counterweighting, and tear dropping. Even though steering range of motion may be limited on a sport bike, it is still possible to make tight u-turns.
For riders who want to improve their skills and have total control of their motorcycle at slow speeds, register for a course or private instruction today at MotorcycleTraining.com!
------------------------------------------
Hey gang, Bill from TEAM Arizona back again. Huge thanks to all those viewers who watched our four part series on low speed maneuvering.
We received several requests asking us to demonstrate low speed turns on a sport bike. In this video, RiderCoach Jill will show you how to whip that sport bike in and around tight spaces.
Shout out to Eladio Garcia. He asked us to demonstrate low speed turns on a sport bike and we're happy to accommodate. If you have any video requests or comments, please place them in the comment section below.
Let's get started. RiderCoach Jill is at our Gilbert, Arizona, Training Headquarters where she will be riding one of our training sport bikes. Now Jill has never ridden this particular training bike, so she will take some time to secure that clutch-throttle-rear brake relationship in a straight line.
Eventually, she practices those very same elements while turning the handlebars in a weave.
Compared to other types of bikes, sport bikes differ due to their steering range of motion, so it is important to test those limits while steering the handlebars in a weave.
While the steering range of motion for sport bikes is typically less compared to other types of bikes, that fact shouldn't prevent us from operating a sport bike competently at low speeds.
The core fundamentals on slow tight turns is the same for all bikes. And don't forget, when you're practicing these techniques, take some rests so your bike can cool down to prevent your clutch from overheating.
Once Jill finishes her rest, she switches to practicing the counterweighting technique. As we showed in previous videos, leaning the bike is necessary to scribe a smaller arc.
To counteract the bike from falling inward, Jill moves her weight to the outside of the turn. She practices going in a circle, adjusting her counterweight, as she makes progressively tighter circles.
Once comfortable with her body positioning while counterweighting, Jill moves to practice tear dropping. Tear dropping is an effective way to destabilize the motorcycle to turn it efficiently. As you can see, Jill is easily making 20' u-turns after just a brief familiarization period with the motorcycle.
Of course, all that practice is about translating those skills into real world success. Watch as Jill proficiently completes a u-turn on her CBR and then easily snakes her way through a parking lot thanks to practicing these valuable techniques.
Thanks again for watching. If you liked the video, give it a thumbs up. If you want to see more, hit that subscribe button and check out our other videos. Be safe and have fun out there everyone!

As a sport bike rider, I know if takes practice and counter weight to pull off some of these maneuvers. Even after riding for over 30 years, I love what I've learned through the advanced rider courses that I've taken at TEAM AZ... and looking forward to more.

The intro said ‘ a sports bike with aggressive geometry’ I don’t dispute the skills on show here, but those seem like very high and generous clip ons to me. Just saying
@TeamArizona1
@TeamArizona1 4 года назад
And yet these bikes are used in racing applications. And when we consider the wide gamut of motorcycles, sport bikes as a category are considered to have aggressive handling geometry (versus cruisers, tourers, dual purpose, etc). It seems possible you were only considering geometry within the sports bike category solely?

Any tips on learning these skills on a heavier sport bike? Other than lots of practice. I've been riding a 300 and felt comfortable doing low speeds turns, u-turns, etc. Just got a 1000 sport bike and besides the extra weight the center of gravity feels much higher.
@TeamArizona1
@TeamArizona1 2 года назад
Great question. The fundamentals all remain the same as the laws of physics don't change. You may consider working on the following: clutch/throttle/rear brake coordination, where you place your vision, and counterweighting more aggressively (moving your body further to the outside, including sliding your outside knee forward so you can rotate your hips more). Otherwise, we recommend reaching out to a local training organization for additional training. Tough to beat well-timed feedback from a trained professional in a safe environment.

When you feel your rpms go too low, pull in the clutch, downshift, and ease off the clutch. This is how I started it in March when I got my cbr300r. Practice it in a parking lot(try going to 3rd and shifting down to 2nd) It’s really all about being as smooth as possible with everything

@@anidiotinaracingcar4874 While ergonomics, bike size, and chassis geometry may require the rider to make different levels of input energy, the techniques apply all the same. Whether Jill was on her CBR600 or our training sportbike, she was easily able to u-turn her bike within a 20' space. And we are betting she could do the same on any Ducati.

Not sure if we could disagree more with your statement about slipping the clutch. It is a control that we can and should master to be able to control our vehicle at slow speed. Threshold braking is one of the pillars of motorcycling, and without braking fidelity, we could make a hash of our stop. That's why we initially focused on the concept of braking fidelity in this video you previously watched: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qb4GnuOwCmA.html

Not being combative but that sounds like an excuse to us, considering she performed the technique on a CBR600RR. These techniques are universal. If you feel so inclined, however, stop on in and we will do it on your S1000rr.

the thumbnail is a CBR600rr, not the bike used for the demo. if you want your channel to be credible, my advise would be to actually demonstrate your claims with the cbr600rr in the thumbnail, otherwise you come across as another person thats all talk/fake. I wish to see someone do it so I can see where I need to improve (if I need to improve) as I struggle make a very tight U turn in the same radius as I can on my wife's cb250, many people claim it can be done, still yet to see it done a supersports
