Low Thyroid symptoms can be common or uncommon. Most people know that low thyroid can lead to fatigue, weight gain, and constipation. Many people (and some doctors) have never heard of the uncommon signs and symptoms of low thyroid I talk about at the end of this video.
Don't let your hypothyroidism be missed or misdiagnosed because you and your doctor are not aware of the more uncommon symptoms of low thyroid. This video will help a lot; it might even help your friend.

@Heather Anne I had Grave's disease and made it 18 years before doc pushed to kill my thyroid. And, I would rather deal with Graves symptoms than the hypo symptoms I've had for 6 years now. The levothyroxine did nothing so they had to put me on Synthroid, which costs way too much even with insurance.

My advice for anybody with thyroid issues is eliminate the carbs. Doesn't matter whether hypo or hyper, carbs hurt you. I went to what I called the caveman diet. The only vegetables that don't seem to upset my body are root veggies like onions, carrots, garlic, and potatoes (boiled or baked).

This was a reminder to my own situation with a low functioning thyroid. When I was 40, I suffered an attack which I thought was a severe sore throat and didn't follow up on it right away with a doctor. Over a year later I was still dealing with minor sore throat and ear issues and finally got it checked out. In the meantime the symptoms of low thyroid (feeling cold, achy, depression) also appeared but I failed to recognize them. Long story short, I got medical help and was put on thyroxin. In my mid forties I went to a nutritional consultant where I was advised to immediately remove processed foods, sugar, wheat and gluten rich grains and as much dairy from my diet as possible (excepting fermented products like yogurt). Have pretty much followed as closely as possible to this regimen although I do treat myself to ice cream or a piece of cake for special occasions. And here are the results -- my thyroid came back to more normal function so I could quit taking the thyroxin. Which proves to me that food can play a large role in our well-being. In my 70's now and my last blood test showed even higher thyroid function than before. I wish I could have had access to your excellent videos when I was younger, but thankfully you are helping many others now.

After years of doctors telling me there is nothing wrong with me, to learn to “deal with the aches and pains”, not knowing why I get daily headaches and memory loss, or why I’m tired all the time, I’ve finally been diagnosed with an extremely under-active thyroid. How it went unnoticed for so long, I have no idea. But I’ve experienced so many of these symptoms. My new doctor kept telling me “you like a healthy person” & then noticed a goiter. I’m just happy I’m finally being treated so I can start to feel like myself again.

@@marge3477 I had to go to a functional medicine doctor and pay out of pocket to get the proper tests done. That's the only way to get 2 hrs of a doctor's time to explain everything, all out of pocket, no insurance coverage . A functional medicine doctor finds the root cause of your disease not a family doctor, they even test your DNA and permeable gut or "leaky gut" until they find your cause. I get away from endocrinologist, they don't know anything.

They are nausea, irritability, orange palms and swollen and painful lymph nodes around the neck. @NessaHavoc

I encourage people to go get a second opinion if they can. My mother was diagnosed with Hashimoto's hypothyroidism which is an autoimmune disease, after almost 5 years of misdiagnosis. They readily chalked it all up to her being obese. The reason being that her TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) was within normal range. There are other tests though like T4 and T3 which is what the thyroid itself produces. Those were low but no one looked further because her basic TSH was fine. TSH is released by the pituitary gland, which meant she had a functioning pituitary gland but not a functioning thyroid. There was also a test where they detected and measured antibodies that were attacking her thyroid. So listen to your gut, and don't let them dust your symptoms under a rug.

I’ve watched this because I was curious. I’m hypothyroid and menopausal. ( premature) The hypothyroid symptoms I have now compared to before being properly diagnosed are way more subtile and takes me longer to realize I’m off. The muscle weakness, actually more like pain/soreness, body stiffness it sneaks up on you, I even have constipation, which I never had before, the extra face dryness it’s weird too, sometimes the heels get cracked, my legs itch so bad, and I do get swelling in my legs and face puffy/eyes, gain weight that creeps in quickly with no changes in eating habits. I take all the supplements in the world and iodine etc. My brain takes longer to put the symptoms together! Great video! As I am writing I’m going through one of these episodes where I have to increase my dose. I have a very narrow therapeutic index and that doesn’t help either. I can only tolerate one kind of desiccated thyroid and compounded. I’ve only experienced hyper symptoms once when I started mercury chelation, I’ve lowered my dose to 1/3 since that, and I feel it with Armour, my body seems to take it too fast and I can’t keep even with it. It’s great to have awareness of the many ways we all experience symptoms.

Amen brother. I use a western philosophy MD for my in-network internist but control my thyroid through a naturalist PA who really knows what blood lab work to order to interpret and monitor my hypothyroidism. She's the one that recognized my T3 and T4 responded independently to naturethroid and levothyroxine; i take both to get proper levels of T3, T4. She's amazing in how she reads the different blood lab indicators, translates to lay language and provides natural, logical health habits to keep it in balance--not simply "up the dose" or prescribe another pharmaceutical to mask various symptoms. She's not against pharma, just relies on it as a last measure. Dr Berry you are what the West needs in real healthcare. My PAs and your battles are convincing a blind, numb public conditioned to search for another pill to swallow without listening to to myriad side effects that will bring you back for another pill. Keep preaching, PLEASE! We're listening. May God continue blessing you and those who listen to your wisdom.

One of my doctors were a little less bad. But after going to two other doctors, he was the only one that checked my thyroid. My TSH was low and my T4 Free was normal. My diagnosis was a normal thyroid. The sad thing about him and the other two doctors, they never said but lets try some more testing to see why you feel so bad. They all just ignored it and even after returning to each of them with the same symptoms none ever thought to do more testing. I am now on doctor number 4. He is treating me for arthritis but I still am not well. My dad had a piece of his thyroid removed but he doesn't remember why. My maternal grandmother passed away from thyroid cancer. Awesome video. This was very informative. I have almost everything he named. I have been diagnosed since I was 20 years old and I am now 43. I do take Levothyroxine for my Hypothyroidism. It is very important to take the medication everyday. I learned this the hard way, I stopped taking my medication for about 2 months and one night I woke up having blurred vission, I felt Hot Tingling all over my body, I felt I could not breathe, I had palpitations, I thought i was going to die. My family called the ambulance and when they were examining me they thought I was on drugs because my eye pupils were wide and would not shrink under light, of course I was not doing any drugs this was just something else happening to my body. When I was examined at the emergency room my sugar levels were very high and my blood pressure was very elevated as well. They treated my sugar and my blood pressure but for some reason nothing was working. There were 4 doctors trying things to help me, when the blood test came back they saw that my Thyroids were out of wack. When they treated my thyroids everything else just calmed down. Let me tell you it was the worst night of my life and ever since I have not missed taking my Levothyroxine. I thought I would share that because some people don't think thyroid problems are not that serious.

Hi, I'm so glad you're well, my wife and myself have Hypothyroidism, it has been a nightmare. We have been experiencing, muscle and joint pain, small nerve neuropathy in our feet as well, our blood sugar and pressure had been extremely high. We were both having a hard time with concentration, terrible brain fog. We are just starting the Levothyroxine and I was wondering how long does it start to help? We really need some hope, lol.

Have been on Levothyroxine for over two years now. The numbers have consistently read within normal range with every three month check. However, I'm still having hypo symptoms! Some even worse now than before I started taking Levothyroxine. It really gets frustrating! I tell my doc that I'm still feeling ALL of these symptoms and he looks at me and says, "Well your thyroid numbers are showing within normal range"... Well, then Why do I still feel so lousy with many of these symptoms? Thank you, Dr.Berry. Your videos are always informational and straight to the point. 👍💗

Wow! I have every one (except maybe one) of the more unusual symptoms. Odd. I wonder if I need to move to Tennessee to become one of your patients. So far I've been tested about 10 times for this, but never the more 'extra' tests. I look forward to learning more from you! Thanks to you, and to God, for God's leading me to you. He always shows me stuff on RU-vid that have changed my life. Weird. Is God in charge of RU-vid algorhythms?

Spot on! I have a lot of those symptoms for yrs!! Last year's blood test finally showed low thyroid and doc gave me medication after 3 months got re-tested and it was high and he took me off the medication. I was finally feeling well and I was so upset when he told me to stop it, he totally disregarded how I felt. I've lost all faith in doctors and here I am miserable again.

I love this! I suspected that I’ve had hypothyroidism for years, but because my bloodwork shows I was in the “normal” range they discounted it. I was finally diagnosed in February, along with severely low testosterone, so we are in the process of getting my hormones leveled out.

I had to ask for tyroid blood test.they came back normal..one doctor told me throid tests had to sent to a special state lab.which was never done.. about a year ago I got a nodule in my throat,, have good and bad days. Now I have been reading a lot zbout the thyroid

This has happened to me too. Symptoms for years but tested normal and I was going so I was still searching for years, ended up having severe symptoms last few weeks I thought it was a heart attack. Thyroid Sensitive Hormone tested In the 8s at the ER and when re tested this week it went to the 9s and my testosterone was tested low a few years ago. I was wondering what the cause of it was.

Wonderful, informative video! An underactive/low thyroid is commonly caused by an autoimmune disease called hashimotos. It's important that your Dr checks for antibodies also. The uncommon list of symptoms is endless. It's crazy that the little butterfly gland can cause you so much grief. It's awful and relentless.

Thank You! I was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism, so I started my journey by being proactive at home in order to turn things around. I’ve been experiencing symptoms including losing all the fat in my body every 10 yrs, hair loss & clumping, breast swelled up like a football, restless leg syndrome, numbness, tingling, feeling like ice blocks to the point where I had drink hot water asap right to restless nights bc I feel like I stopped breathing so I jump up & my blood pressure spikes, then when I go to the hospital to be tested, everything’s fine! I’m so over this roller coaster, I’m praying that by the time I see the dr, I won’t have to take medication for the rest of my life.

Almost 61, no Thyroid as radiated 20 years ago, had VSG in MX so lost 120 lbs 6 yrs ago & kept it off w/Keto. I am 3 weeks into Carnivore which long term is not for me BUT works well for a cut, yes you can gain weight on Keto! So hard to find someone that will give me anything but modern thyroid meds in Michigan.

Mine is caused because I live down river from the Hanford Nuclear plant! I spent all summer water skiing on the Columbia River! So I’m sure I drank gallons of that water! I do have a cyst in my thyroid, so I take 0.05 mg pill each morning! The reason it’s so weak, is because I started having panic attacks after I was taking the regular thyroid pill they start you out on! They were way too strong for me! I’ve been on the pills for over 20 years now. I did just notice the ones I’m taking now are Not the natural thyroid! I have no idea how long I’ve been on this kind, but I will be contacting my Dr & getting this fixed ASAP! Anyway, I do have a lot of these symptoms! I’m actually surprised! I will be asking my doc for the complete test, as well! Thank you so much, Dr Barry!❤️
