Loved this! I'm a preschool teacher and we give kids papers that have something printed on 1 side to draw on the other side during free time in the afternoons. We also save tiny scraps of papers when we cut something out in case we need to cut something small 😅 also, ever since starting this job I've been saving up weird stuff and trash "just in case we need it for crafts" 🤣

I love how authentic and real you are! I thought I was the only one doing weird stuff to be sustainable but turns out there's another weirdo saving this planet😂❤ I do stuff like use old socks with holes as a washcloths to wash my bathroom surfaces and use avocados that can't be eaten anymore as hair masks

Blankets/sheets: You can also turn them into fabric yarn to crochet/knit/braid into rugs. I also took several of the old blankets, torn pillows and stuffing and a bunch of inherited yarn and turned it into a giant floor pouf for our living room.

I mostly hang my laundry outside to air dry in the summer, but during the winter I hang them in a corner in my living room. I do use the dryer for bulkier items like towels, sheets, etc. because this allows me to throw all these items together in one wash and dry them together as well. Also, my living room is almost like a patio. It has a glass roof and glass doors, so during the day, I keep the roof uncovered and it works like a greenhouse naturally increasing the temperature of the space. Lastly, I keep the dehumidifier close to the drying rack and you cannot imagine how much faster the clothes dry.

You can also use the water from your shower, just put a bucket in the shower with you, it doesn't catch all the water but it will catch a lot of it. I lived in Cape Town, South Africa when they had the worst draught in their recorded history so we had we all had to do as much as possible to save and reuse water. I'm glad that you mentioned saving water, it always seems to be forgotten, but it's truly pivotal for life. All Cape Townians have water saving tricks 😉👍.

I have a garden and I have been using the big collard leaves as paper plates. It works well and I just compost the leaf when I'm done.

I immediately put my phone on ultra low power mode after watching! I do this every night before i sleep, but it never occurred to me to do this during my waking hours especially when I'm working away in my laptop anyways. Thanks for this very great reminder :D

Look around in your neighbourhood on garbage/recycling day for free plastic plant pots, I didn't need any this year, but next year I will. Save seeds from your garden, ask people for cuttings or seeds. Our library has a seed library -- free seeds.

Another tip, you can use laundry lint as cotton swabs for removing nail polish! Warning for the coconut oil, it may cause breakouts so make sure to patch test. Oil molecules are larger than pores so it can clog pores

JAR TIP: I repurpose jars from food to store loads of things but I thought they were ugly so using acrylic paint I already had, I painted them and then hot glued some of my friends old Disney Tsum Tsums on to the top as she didn’t want them anymore… now I have some ADORABLE Disney themed jars for storing all my bits and pieces and they were FREE!

I LOVE brócoli so much I usually always snack on the stem whilst I’m cooking my meal. Or if it’s going to be a meal with mash potato I’ll boil the stem with the potato and mash it in to make my mash potato a little more nutritious

I asked the vendor at the farmers market if cauliflower stems are edible and she told me she wouldn't eat them, but eat them!! Roast, raw, any which way. The leaves are great for sandwiches too

I visited Vietnam a while back and that's how they would flush the toilet. Pouring water in the hole manually, the the same thing the water tank does essentially. It's a good hack if your water tank breaks. Whenever I shower, as I'm waiting for it to warm up to jump in, I leave a bucket underneath to collect the cold water. I use it for my plants.

Eating at home more often can create less waste, using a reusable water bottle and making sure it's filled before going outside helps. I still drink Starbucks and I always make sure to bring my reusable coffee cup with me so I save 10 cents overtime and save plastic. Use bread ends as bread crumbs or flip it over and make a sandwich out of it. I use my old t shirts as rags to clean my bathroom floors. I save all my spaghetti sauce glass jars and use them as storage containers or water cups if I feel like it. My partner flushes once a day kind of gross cause it can leave a dirty ring near the hole of the toliet I've been trying to do it too since I pee way too much. Thanks for all the great tips. I love your previous videos I'm glad you're still making videos! Last tip join your local "Buy Nothing" group I got an airfryer for free from another member since it was sitting in their garage. You can post stuff to give away or get free stuff from others.

I do DIY a lot. Last time I bought moisturiser was what? 8 years ago? Flushing the toilet with bath water is so common here in Ghana. Water is a very precious resource so we have no choice but to maximise the water that you do have. I currently do this with my baby's bath water. I use it to hand wash his cloth diapers before they go into the machine so I don't have to do pre-wash and I wash on cold.

I have done the method of reusing water to flush my toilets before but with dirty mop water when my boyfriend insisted using the disposable mops. I've also tried to collect said mop water from my shower when I took a shower... that was a little challenging but I gave it a try. Something I've been striving to do and I've been learning is repurposing recyclables for things. For example, I will cut the flat part of the side of milk cartons (I buy almond milk in cartons) and use them as mini cutting boards so when I'm in a rush I don't have to break out my big ass cutting board just to chop up an apple or bread or something, and they are quicker to clean.

Hi! I don’t compost my veggies because I don’t want rats hanging around… but I know a few places with chickens and I take my scraps there! I Google first whether chickens can eat the scraps 👍

I’m currently painting an old chest of drawers instead of buying new. I’m using an old soup can for water (chalk paint likes a little going over with a wet brush) and using a box salad (i know 😭) lid to pour the paint on. I save some plastic berry containers to hold embroidery floss. They’re the perfect size. I pulled a T-shirt out of the rag pile to wear while I paint. Haha

Also wanted to add that if someone has kids, I save the plastic cup applesauce come in (only bought them a few times, and now I can just buy applesauce in big jars) and when my kids want a snack at home (from the largest container of that snack i can find) I put them in the little cups or applesauce. I also will use them to hold sides and ketchup in my bento lunches in the containers they can fit I . On the same note I buy vegan cream cheese, I remove the labels and they work to hold snacks in lunches, I use them a ton in my kids lunches.

Thanks for the video! I'm going to try cider vinegar next time I core apples. :) But regarding jars, I do occasionally have to purchase new canning jars. For storage, I reuse jars. But around this time of year, I can a lot of jellies, jams, salsas, and pickles to give as gifts and store to use throughout the year. If I can find canning jars at the thrift store, I scoop them up, but always need to be careful that they don't have any cracks or chips around the rim that could make for a poor seal when canning. Just a caveat, depending on what people are using their jars for.

Good tips.. I am guilty lately of not composting my toilet paper rolls sigh. I plan to get a bucket to put on the porch to put these small items in and take to my compost bin. Something I try to do when theres a good sale.. Classico uses mason jars for their spaghetti sauce and they can be reused for Canning (the bigger jars). So when there is a good price I buy them and reuse the jar for canning. I just canned spicy pickled cauliflower this week using one of those jars. When one of my canning jars gets a chip in it it's no longer safe for canning but perfect for storing dry food items in such as pasta noodles.. I take spaghetti noodles break them in half and put in my jars ( I am super proactive about not leaving food out for mice to get in to or any other pest). Anna In Ohio

I turn a t shirt inside out and wear it when painting, so I don't wreck the design on the other side. I keep my absolutely nastiest trousers and use them for mucky jobs, I don't mend them or add buttons, I just use a big safety pin to keep them from falling down.

I reuse jars all the time, but do be aware that you need a real Mason jar if you want to use it for pressure canning. But otherwise, any jar can do the job of a jar. I never salt my pasta water, mainly because I'm trying to reduce sodium, but you have to be a real foodie to tell the difference. I use homemade deodorant. I hope it works. These are all good tips.

I want to mention, goodwill does take fabric scraps and destroyed clothing for recycling as well. They bulk sell it to other countries that reuse it for items in less regulated markets. If you live in a hot climate you can use the sun to make your yogurt. I do this in Arizona. Also who doesn't save their jars? The only ones I've had to buy at goodwill were the huge mason jars (sometimes you just need 20oz of storage).

I separate trash from recycling every week before putting the bins out for pickup. Kitchen trash, of course, will go out as is, but my chairside waste paper basket and the bathroom trash warrant a few minutes of sorting. It's then that I cut off the clean backs pf envelopes to use as scratch paper. Save a few trees, save a little collection-truck diesel fuel and pollution, never buy scratch pads again. I'm old, so am not willing to sit down in the tub anymore (because getting back up is not a given at this stage in life!), so I collect the shower water in a bucket under the spigot while waiting for it to heat up. No sense letting a perfectly good resource go down the drain. I use it for flushing, a habit I developed 45 years ago during a massive Northern California drought.

In my bathroom, I have a garbage pail and a green cart (compost) pail. I just repurposed a metal watering pail to hold the bathroom compost. Toilet paper rolls, hair, and tissues* go in the green cart pail until I take it to the garage to put in the larger green cart for curbside pickup (every Wednesday). *Im not living alone right now, so Kleenex is still predominantly used in the house.

it depends on the type, some aren't bad to eat. If it's a small spot I just cut it off, I don't eat the mold!

One of my favorite things I've replaced plastic with are my wool dryer balls for laundry! I'm not spending money on gross laundry sheets that shed microplastic everywhere, if I want a scent I can use essential oils, and the kind I bought from Free The Ocean look like penguins! 😄

Regarding the low power mode in phones: One thing you can do is set your screen to go off after e.g. 2min of no touches, whatever time is best for you. I've found this helpful, it lowers the battery usage easily. I believe this option can be found in any smartphone.

I'm honestly always nervous to put paper that isn't cardboard into the recycle. I'm afraid it'll just get wet from other people >.< and so I have a tone of paper that needs to be recycled just sitting in my house ^^;

I used to save bath water for flushing purposes, it works really well. The place we live now only has a shower so we cannot save water. If there's a good way to catch any shower water I'd like to know 🙂

Use a bucket! :D put it in the shower and catch the cold water (because it usually does take some time before the hot water comes)

I saw on tv a guy would shower with a plastic bin next to him to catch the water for flushing, not sure how practical that is though

You can eat banana peels, cauliflower leaves, carrot tops, radish greens, and tomato leaves. You can get 2 cups of tea from a tea bag.

@@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist I don’t know if you have ever seen really old cookbooks but my grandparents had some. They had a whole section on what to do with scraps from an extra cup of coffee at breakfast to watermelon rinds to corn husks, they had a use. Food waste was never an issue before ww2.

What my mom uses to do was collect the cold water from the shower in a bucket and turn the water to the toilet off so she could just dump the bucket from the shower directly into the take to use that to flush!

I don't reuse my bath water, but when I take a bath, I stay a looonnngggg time, to make sure I did not use this water for nothing. Since I work from home and am all alone all day, I flush every other time when I go to the bathroom. I also use corn starch as dry shampoo. We keep all the peanut butter jars, to store food, and ice cream plastic containers, to store our compost. I dump kitty litter in an old plastic container and empty it in the trash once a week, instead of using a plastic bag every day. I can't use a single moisturizer or coconut oil on my skin, since it's sensitive and doesn't react well to some ingredients, but I buy the biggest bottles and fill small silicone tubes for hand cream, instead of buying small sizes to carry with me. That's about it! 🤪
