ON 7/19/2022 THEY LOWERED THE WATER LEVEL BELOW THE DAVIS DAM TO HALF A UNIT FROM EIGHT AM TO THREE PM. FULL RIVER FLOW IS FIVE UNITS. THE REASON FOR THE LOW WATER LEVEL WAS TO TRY AND KILL THE EGGS THAT ARE LAID BY THE CADDIS FLY IN HOPES TO DRAMATICALLY REDUCE THE POPULATION.

Mismanaged for over 50 years.. the once proud river is just a trickle.. history repeats itself...like the salton sea. And the not so great salt lake. anymore.

I would have looked for treasures. I saw that the carp are still there. Thanks for sharing. What a fun date. I've been going there since the 80's. My guess is the flies will still be there. Some years are worse than others for all sorts of insects depending on humidity.

Visited back in 1994 and the Colorado River was still mighty. Doesn’t even make it to the Gulf of California. They are running out of water. Dumb idea to build a town in the middle of a desert.

It's other states getting most of the water. Clark County uses about 1.5 of the water recycling back a great portion of the water used. Fascinating how little Nevada does get.

ppl dont know what mark twain actually means. it means mark the twain. his name isnt actually mark twain. i lived out there for years used to go up from the davis dam all the way to parker. I have never seen a man walk across that river thats insane. when i was a kid me and my dad with observers with his large boat actually found way to traverse down the river in a fiberglass boat. but it certainly is no easy journey. we did it a few times and one time lost a prop. I did it on a jetski like 5 years ago and thought i was gonna lose my sh theres that super shallow point over there with giant boulders. the water had to have been moving easily 15 mph at that particular spot. boulders everywhere. almost nowhere to go. I cant stand that river anymore. i got two boats and its just too hectic.

maybe all this bounty was enough and remained so for the longest time ... maybe things only fell apart when we assumed it couldn't possibly end.

We're seeing what they can 'afford' to let go. I've been there and it is shocking but the flow is being managed.

@@jsroadpilot I'll ask if he remembers the name. He is 83 now, still driving and going to the gym 4 days a week. In all of his years working there he drove a 66 Charger or possibly a while Cadillac with red interior, but not often. That was my mother's car. He spoke often of a Dan Fraser and Felipe Cruse. When I was growing up, they were all master electrician's. In the 90s he designed the new ignition rods the plant switched to using.

@@jsroadpilot It actually wasn't in very good shape tell 2000 or so. He had I'd restored after retirement. But he doesn't drive it often any longer. My mother prefers he drives the XLR, it's also older, but has a lot more safety features than the 66.

I grew up between Vegas and loughlin in the 80s and 90s. I've definitely seen it lower than this. My father ran the power plant back in the day before retirement in the early 2000s before it was decommissioned.

If the lakes are so low why do they let so much out downstream?
@JonathanKRousso
@JonathanKRousso 2 года назад
Look up the Salton Sea in California. That would be why. For a lake to maintain a healthy eco system, it has to have a certain amount of intake and output of water or else the water becomes stagnant and depletes the oxygen from the water causing massive fish kills and then domino effects for environmental and health risks from there.... Eventually the water would become toxic and poisonous.
@josephs8364
@josephs8364 2 года назад
@@JonathanKRousso they could cut the output in half for awhile and it still be fine. They do it all the time for lakes out east
@JonathanKRousso
@JonathanKRousso 2 года назад
@@josephs8364 Yes but there's many more variables at play. In the east and south, you have moisture in the air, trees and vegetation, the ground. Not so much in the southwest. Shut off the outflow any more, the river would just dry and evaporate before it reaches any more destinations. They're not gonna close it until the lake is almost down to the original Colorado River. Remember, neither that dam or lake was supposed to be there to begin with. Nature will always eventually take it back. Instead of messing with nature, they can always stop building massive cities where basic resources are scarce 🤷‍♂️

Why aren’t you people out there demanding that your government come up with a solution? I mean they have enough of your money, there are things to try, just because you can’t think of any doesn’t mean there is not an answer, how about California star building desalination plants up and down there vast coastline? That would be massive, they use 45 percent of all that water. So come on do something, demand help.
@croftjeepnxxx
@croftjeepnxxx 2 года назад
It is best to check the bureau of reclamation dam water release info they have on their website if you are going out on the river or leaving a boat at any of the docks overnight. Usually, the levels are down in the early morning often until around noon and goes up again to maximum at 4 or 5 PM and back down low hours later. They cut it to half on those Caddis Fly days but even on regular days it can be too low to run a boat or Jet ski without really looking out for obstacles.
