In this video I get cracking on repairing the lower B post of the 1969 Triumph Spitfire. I remove some old metal, and actually put some new metal on! Big steps!

Hi Steve you are doing a great job. I restored my mk3 spitfire which took me 2 years I also resprayed it taking it back to bare metal, I still have my Spitfire 23 years later. Take your time. An old mechanic told me once ( Spend time now save time later). Keep up the good work it will be worth it in the end, that blue is an unusual colour not seen that before Kev🇬🇧👍

Hey Kevin! Thank you for the words of confidence and support. 2 years is pretty decent for a project of that scale! I hope that I can get things done in time to possibly lay paint on the the body either this winter or next winter. Our winters in Florida are ideal for laying paint without a professional booth. So fingers crossed I can be in it at the 1 or 2 year mark. But we shall see!

Thanks Mike! It’s an uphill battle all the way, but I’m enjoying all of it.

@@StevesProjectCarGarage you've got a lot of intestinal fortitude. Positive thinking will continue to get you through.

I appreciate that. I really didn’t have much of a choice. I wasn’t about to let this classic die on my watch.

Thank you Steve! The previous owner really did a hack job on this car. I really hope that I am able to do better than they did. The magnet really helps, I would recommend them to anyone.

@@StevesProjectCarGarage One thing i would recommend you use is Copper weld spray, i put it on everything, and wire wheel off were i'm about to weld, protect's the bare steel between the welds from rusting
@StevesProjectCarGarage

I have a zinc weld through primer that I just got. I’ll have to use that next time.
@stevesgarage1976
@stevesgarage1976 3 года назад
@@StevesProjectCarGarage yeah that's a good product, only difference between Zinc and the Copper as i beleive is the Copper has a higher heat tolerance, going off my research

@@stevesgarage1976 ahhh that does make sense. Are you using a Direct to Metal primer right over everything after you weld in a new piece? I bought a rattle can of some 2k epoxy primer but it say that the pot life is only 24 hours after being activated. So I was going to hold off using painting some until I’m ready to do a large section.

Invest in a Dremel tool, makes the tight spots easier.
@StevesProjectCarGarage
@StevesProjectCarGarage 3 года назад
Thanks for the recommendation. I was thinking about a die grinder but a rotary tool like a Dremel makes more sense. Next on my tool purchase list!!
@stevesgarage1976

@@StevesProjectCarGarage i have to agree, i went though 3 Dremels until i saw reason and bought a Die Grinder, you just got the watch the speed as not to snap the bit's, but yes Dremels are great but not for every day use

@@StevesProjectCarGarage Rather than a Dremel consider a Foredam style grinder. HF has an inexpensive on that will do the job. www.harborfreight.com/search?q=flexible%20shaft%20grinder/carver%20rotary%20tool. A Dremel is a little light for some of the stuff you are going to need it for in the future. This tool can use 1/4 shaft tools and has much more power. Quality bits are available from places like RioGrande.com. Trust me, you are going to need the extra power on stuff you are going to run into.

Hi Steve from NZ. Great job. If you need motivation have a look at my Spitfire on my Channel. It was a lot worse than yours when I started restoring it.

Going through your videos from start to finish. You were performing a resurrection, not a restoration!

Thank you very much. You really are not wrong, this thing will have had every nut and bolt touched by the time I’m done.
