Years later I re-listen to this. Im from Denmark but worked in London for almost two years. I took the tube each morning from hammersmith to paddington. Driving by Grenfelll. I remember seeing the burning building. Children died!! I did not connect or understand while watching in the tube. Today, years later, I feel ashamed that I just went to work, a few miles from where people were dying. RIP

Switch on subtitles/captions, I find that a good way to get a jist of what is being said. Surprisingly the arabic sounds really good, peaceful in a way. Maybe this is true arabic (as it was a language before islam) and the ones ive seen in some islamic scholars speak are just said with hate and rage. or maybe its just said by an angel. lol

This is devastatingly powerful. Compare and contrast with the Simon Cowell charity cover of Bridge over Troubled Water. While that clearly has a role, a sincere intent and will help by raising money, it also reduces the situation to something very safe and familiar - Red Nose Day tears. Meanwhile Lowkey uses humane and tender melodies to tell us about a still burning anger and a community in real pain. The lyric on "blood on your hands, ashes on your grave" - here sung so incredibly beautifully - is utterly unflinchingly brutal. Incredible work.

I live in the north of England and feel a kinship for all my brothers and sisters who are suffering still a year on from the tragic events at Grenfell flats nr Chelsea London I think the most depressing part of this heartbreaking tragedy is it should never of happened, the tenants had reported the fire dangers and were ignored. Unless I am mistaken the only reason the building had been coated in that highly flammable cladding was so the rich fucks across the way had a tidy view. I am so grateful to people from the community who all showed such generosity towards their neighbours and lets face it the Government couldn't care less about the victims the ones we lost and the survivors who needed help and thankfully the local people showed their humanity towards their brothers and sisters and as a humanist I just love when we realised we have over seven billion brothers and sisters around the world and only our love for each other can protect us from those who preach hate like Mcdonald Trump so I have a message for my Muslim friends, عيد سعيد لأشقائي وشقيقاتي المسلمين eyd saeid li'ashqayiy washaqiqati almuslimin, I hope I got the translation right and for my English friends have a nice weekend.

[Intro: Lowkey] The night our eyes changed Rooms where, love was made and un-made in a flash of the night Rooms where, memories drowned in fumes of poison Rooms where, futures were planned and the imagination of children built castles in the sky Rooms where, both the extraordinary and the mundane were lived Become forever tortured graves of ash Oh you political class, so serve out to corporate power [Chorus: Mai Khalil & Lowkey] Did they die, or us? Did they die, or us? Did they die, for us? Ghosts of Grenfell still calling for justice Now hear 'em, now hear 'em scream Did they die, or us? Did they die, or us? Did they die, for us? This corporate manslaughter will haunt you Now hear 'em scream [Verse 1: Lowkey] Words can not express Please allow me to begin though 1:30am heard the shouting from my window People crying in the street Watchin' the burning of their kinfolk Grenfell Tower, now historically a symbol People reaching, from their windows Screaming, for their lives Pleading, with the cries Tryna reason with the skies Dale youth birthed champions Comparison is clear though That every single person in the building was a hero So don't judge our tired eyes in these trying times 'Cause we be breathing in cyanide, the entire night They say Yasin saw the fire and he ran inside Who'd thought that would be the site where he and his family died The street is like a graveyard, tombstones lurching over us Those shouting out to their windows, now wish they never woke them up Wouldn't hope your worst enemy to go in this position Now it's flowers for the dead and printed posters for the missing, come home [Chorus: Mai Khalil & Lowkey] Did they die, or us? Did they die, or us? Did they die, for us? Ghosts of Grenfell still calling for justice Now hear 'em, now hear 'em scream Did they die, or us? Did they die, or us? Did they die, for us? This corporate manslaughter will haunt you Now hear 'em scream [Verse 2: Lowkey] I see trauma in the faces of all those that witnessed this Innocence in the faces of all those on the missing list See hopes unfulfilled Ambitions never achieved No I'm not the only one that sees the dead in my dreams Strive for the bravery of Yasin, artistic gift of Khadija Every person, a unique blessing to never be repeated Strive for the loyalty of siblings that stayed behind with their parents Pray that every loved one lost can somehow make an appearance We are, calling like the last conversations with their dearest Until we face, what they face we will never know what fear is We are, calling for survivors rehoused in the best place Not to be left sleeping in the West Way for 10 days We're, calling for arrests made and debts paid In true numbers known for the families that kept faith We're, calling for safety in homes of love They are immortalised forever, the only ghosts are us I wonder [Chorus: Mai Khalil & Lowkey] Did they die, or us? Did they die, or us? Did they die, for us? Ghosts of Grenfell still calling for justice Now hear 'em, now hear 'em scream Did they die, or us? Did they die, or us? Did they die, for us? This corporate manslaughter will haunt you Now hear 'em scream [Bridge: Mai Khalil (Arabic)] Olooli win arooh Nas a'am tehtere'a fe sa'at sahoor Ahess ennee be alam tanee Ahess ennee be alam tanee Olooli win arooh Nas a'am tehtere'a fe sa'at sahoor Ahess ennee be alam tanee Ahess ennee be alam tanee [Speech: Lowkey & Various Voices] To whom it may concern, at the Queen's royal borough of Kensington in Chelsea. This is such a powerful work of art. It moves me every single time I hear it (more times that I can count). It doesn’t need to reach millions of views to be significant. Since the dawn of time, people that made history, made it starting small, but their cause resonated over time. This will be heard, this will matter, the lives lost to “corporate manslaughter” will be served justice, if not by man today, certainly by Allah (S) at some point. Lot’s of love for the Grenfell community 💚

This is just stunning work: given that the 18.5 million pounds raised for Grenfell has been reserved by the great and good who have decided to mange the Grenfell fund away from the people for whom it was raised, when it should be immediately given to the survivors for mortgages, secure homes and compensation without question or assessment. Treating everyone the same: realising that the ideology that people who live in social housing are inferior beings also justified the idea of not building more council houses from the proceeds of council house sales. Anathema to the market economy that the conservative government idealised in the 1980's 90's and even the first labour government in 1997 didn't realise how important that social contract over housing was and is. Have some insight politicians and realise that your myths of superiority are just that and when the chips are down for you, you're just like everyone else, just like people who live in social housing and try to understand how they can make a decent way of life with some hope and a future where they live well and prosper.

Okay we need to get this up there in the millions to the official artist-endorsement one. Whose up for this? We could start a trend on Twitter or just try to make this vital. This is more meaningful and MUCH NEEDED than a song that doesn't call this what it is: corporate manslaughter. #neverforgetgrenfell #accountabilityNOW this is already off the media's agenda, we need to make people know that a couple of celebrities feeling 'sad' over this won't be enough to sweep this under the rug.

Beautiful tribute. Lowkey fully went in and the singer Mai Khalil has the voice of an angel. Big up to you both and everyone else involved. May the souls of the departed find eternal peace and blessings.

Watching this a year to the day after it happened, and I can’t help but cry for all the people lost who shouldn’t have been... "They are immortalised forever and we are the Ghosts" hits so hard, and the names of the people claimed... it’s wrong. It should not have happened. And the people who caused this should pay in blood for every life lost!!!

Lowkey = un-sung hero of current UK rap!...always has been. Is there anywhere we can buy this song? This song should have been 'number 1' for months and months and months....

GreatestAlive29 theyre people who are missing still from grenfell, presumed dead no bodies found tho

GreatestAlive29 the first one who he names was declared dead at the end of July. An artistic black lady who was friends with MP David Lamy is also mentioned in the list and she was known to have died early. I think it is a mix of missing and known?

JeL101086 potentially but there was way more deaths than mentioned, I believe the song was written quite a while ago that's all

Qamar Zaman that's because the bodies turned into ashes and it mixed with all the burned rubble so apparently they could tell what was what

So very sad indeed. Nothing happens without the permission of Allah, there is a Divine Wisdom we cannot comprehend. He is the Best of Planners...Khair In•Shaa•Allah they are all martyrs now. Those responsible will pay the price either in this life or the next.

Yo its crazy how you can be a Hip Hop head and miss stuff of this quality and drive. Lowkey is dope I know i'm late to the party it seems but dang beautiful, spot on, filler free, Hip Hop delivered like a Profit ignoring all fear and focused without Mercer for the corrupt. My America basically was killed after WW2 when we decided to never shift from a wartime economy to a peacetime economy. A standing army of world conquest proportions will always find an enemy and these days the weapons used on either side of any battle the U.S. is involved in or not were sold buy the U.S. That said hip hop like Lowkey coming from the UK and other seedlings I have watched develop from the Hip hop style and skill to now the final evolution Power to the People and a mechanism to expose oppressive people, laws or cultures. The world got a lot of its Rockmusic from the UK and i think we finally got ya back for the gift. Be free, Be real, Be love Thank you LOWKEY

Zaigham Abass they took a classic song and put stormzy and other zionsist controlled artists on for money gain, lowkey gets money from tours not album sales so the message is clear profit making off death. Lowkey is like a messenger to the people :)

Josh Jadey lowkey gets money from album sales too, doesn't he have music on iTunes ???
@joshjadey6825
@joshjadey6825 7 лет назад
Franklin Freshman to call something an album you have to have a certain amount of songs, usually it's an e.p if it's 6 or less tracks. Not sure if he makes money from itunes or youtube but my point is he isn't commercially making money from his music he isn't in the music industry have you heard "my soul" the artists who made money and claimed it was for charity I mean please Lord Rothchild runs all charity and benefits from them, when they faked the terror attack in London how many artists promoted there new albums and have brought out songs? Not to mention that slag ariana grande who claims to be for children when she is clearly an adult artist who might I add poses for 18+ calendars, she also signs about making deals with the devil clearly satanic agenda and little children are subjected to her shit no thanks. Sorry about rant just putting my point across.
