Your method worked perfectly for me. Using Morel lifters and pushrods from Cam Motion with .135" wall. Upgraded rockers, too. Thank you, sir.

For my st2126lsr's, with the lifter on the base circle, I r&r'ed my adj pr checker in the hole until I found 0 lash, measured with digital caliper, and added 35 thou. Repeat for all other pr's. Then, I tried to group the lengths into smaller groups and ordered from Manton.

There are different ways to go about checking for proper preload. I just choose to do it this way to load the lifter and spring and make sure different cylinders measure the same. Also making sure to account for change in tolerance once the engine is warm.

I’ve been told that you can’t use this method with shaft rockers.

Unsure about shaft style rockers. Certain rockers or springs aren’t rated for higher lift cams so might be along those same lines. I would think shaft rockers will have a spec for cam lift and or lifter preload but I’ve never used them.

@@semi-prosgarage yup, I ended up finding zero lash and adding the recommended pre-load from Johnson when I ordered all mine. Time consuming for sure but those Johnson’s have a very fine window like you said.

@@660garage9 yes they make some of the best lifters on the market imo. A lot of the guys I know use them and make good power and spin their motors 8k rpm without issue. I’ve always had a habit of going on the bigger end of the scale as far as tolerances etc.
