In this video we take you on our journey of the LS swapped Jeep and the the Dana 35 rear end! We knew it was weak and yes we blew it up!
General specifications. The Dana 35 (as well as the AMC-15) is found in a wide variety of vehicles. The most common Dana 35 applications are as a rear axle in the Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler, and Jeep Comanche and as a front axle in the Ford Explorer and Ford Ranger
Ford first used the 8.8 axle in 1983 model year trucks and is still in production for the Ford Ranger and Ford F-Series. It was also used in the Ford SUVs until Independent suspension replaced the solid axle. Ring, pinion and carrier all remained between the solid axle and independent rear suspension.
It was also used in V8 equipped Mustangs from 1986 to the 2014 model years; and all Mustang models from 2011-2014

East coast gear supply has an entire swap kit they sell, it’s what I bought and made this swap painless and easy and could still have an e brake for cheap.

Another good option is the V6 Toyota 8” from a 2wd truck.

Ahh yes! Good point. This 8.8 was easily accessible and it had disc brakes and the perfect gear ratio for the jeep. Couldn’t pass it up!

LS swap and you didn't upgrade the axle? And why spend all that money on the engine and cheap out on the axle. Ford 8.8 my rear end. lol, see what I did there. Dana 60 at the very least. Minuimum.

Do you think the stock yj axle will hold up to everyday LS swap and not donuts. Thinking of doing a LS on my 92 and axles later

No it doesn’t. I just put a gen 3 5.3 in a 1993 yj and the axels broke. The torque is too much not only for the diff but the axel itself

Do you think the danna 44 could handle 400whp I’m running 35s on my jk , I don’t think in my scenario I would benefit from the 8.8 since they are so similar , thank you in advance

Yeah my 8.8 is probably good for around 6-700hp but you’d benefit from a Dana 60.
