You can't make this stuff up if you wanted to! The XR3135 tractor has went dead more than 25 times per day since we got it back from the mechanic shop. Some days close to 100 times!!! You can't make this up. We show the error codes and the hours on this LS XR3135 tractor as it happens.

Unlike previous generation engines these engines will not tolerate running at low RPM for work Duty Cycles. In order for the regen system to work properly these engines have to be ran at a high RPMs with a definite load on the engine in order to create higher temperatures for the engine regen system to work properly. In other words no Putt-Putt around the homestead. Keep engine RPM up high, and if ground speed is too fast choose a lower gear.

Please forgive if this has already been covered: Appears to me that, at Regen, the tractor is not being run at 2000 RPM which, I believe, is the required R's to bring the engine up to sufficient temperature for the Regen function to operate. It is also apparent that the machine is generally run at VERY low RPM (basically, the Turtle setting on the hand throttle control), hence engine is trying to run cold. Obviously, this comment only covers a part of what you are dealing with. That said, you first need t be able to keep the tractor engine running at top efficiency of all the rest doesn't matter.
@THEjasonTDI
@THEjasonTDI 5 лет назад
As the owner of a German Diesel shop I can see a few things. One, the DPF is trying to regen, You need to let it do its thing. Not turn the RPM down or shut it off. Next, fuel tank is chronically low. Why? It's horribly bad for it. That can starve the high pressure fuel pump and injectors, damaging them. If you run these modern common rail systems out of fuel a few times you will destroy them. Check the fuel filter for plugging. Also look for shiny metal. That's the pump coming apart. The only solution for this is to replace everything and clean the tank and lines of the debris. The fuel rail screen can plug and cause the stalling, too. I don't know what filter system they use but I'd be putting a remote 2 micron system on it without a doubt. It's clearly stalling when it demands more fuel and loads up.

I once owned a 1980 Volkswagen Rabbit diesel that I was able to drive for about 5 minutes before it would go dead, just like your tractor. Watching this video reminded me of my old car so much. I tried to fix that car for about a month, to no avail. I even swapped out the entire injector to see if that was the problem. It wasn't. I had no idea what was wrong. One day, my father asked me to listen for the sound of bubbles in the fuel tank, right after the car shut off. I drove it, it shut off, and I listened for the bubbles. I actually heard them. I told my father and he informed me that the "in tank" fuel filter was clogged. What was happening was, as the injector sucked the diesel fuel from the tank, a negative pressure would be created in the fuel line. The engine would burn what fuel there was in the line, but once the negative pressure was too much for the injector to pull, the car would shut off. After I waited for a few minutes, I'd be able to start the car again, no problem. To fix the issue, I pulled out the back seat and removed the small cover that was on top of the fuel tank. I used a tool that looked like a screwdriver to pull out a cylinder shaped filter that had a very fine screen on it. It was totally gummed up from all the dirty diesel fuel the car used through the years. I used a turkey baster to suck out all the dirt that settled down at the bottom of the tank and I cleaned the filter. Apparently, it was allowing just enough fuel through to let the car run for only a few minutes. After I cleaned that filter, I never had a problem again.

In the spirit of goodwill toward a customer who has stated several times he really likes the tractor but doesn't like the problem, I believe it would benefit LS greatly (at least among farmers and homesteaders) to replace the current tractor with a new one and put customer satisfaction above the $$$ for a change.
@jdb48
@jdb48 5 лет назад
By listening to the engine at periodic rpm's, through out the video, it seems to me it could be a bad injection pump. It knocks and raps like it starves for fuel. Injection pumps tend to be very expensive to rebuild or replace. Also after this much time the injectors, most likely, have been damaged. That would explain why you would always get it back in an un-usable condition.

Danny thanks for being transparent and your willingness to share your struggles with this particular tractor. I own a 4wd 32 horse Cub Cadet/Yanmar with front end loader...basically a rebadged John Deere. The tractor is a little smaller than I like an sometimes just doesn't have the ooomph that I need. However, it does well for what it is designed to do. With all of that being said I was contemplating making a purchase of a larger tractor and you guess it....LS was the manufacturer I was looking at. Some of what was guiding me in that direction was the fact you had chosen one. Now that you have shared all of these negative but very honest reviews I have completely put LS out of the running for a future purchase. It looks like John Deere and Kubota are back on the menu of choice. Take care my Brother and I hope all works our for you and Miss Wanda.

I had a 55 hp LS tractor. (in the thumbnail) My dealer was 125 miles away, and I was in the Colorado mountains, so it wasn't easy to to get it to them to work on. It was in the shop 4 times in the first 2 years for similar issues. They finally got it fixed after trying all sorts of things and excuses. If I remember correctly what finally fixed it was a sensor that was close to the fuel pump and may have had something to do with fuel pressure, but it has been long enough ago that I can't remember for sure. My life and work circumstances changed so I had to get rid of the tractor. I'm glad to be rid of it. I don't have much good to say about the tier 4 machines, LS or otherwise. I think the epa has ruined things for diesel manufacturers and consequently their patrons. I still own a 12 year old Kioti 30 hp gear drive tractor with a small back hoe. It always starts and runs and hasn't given me a lick of trouble since I bought it new. No smog crap, just the basics. Runs a long time on a tank of gas and does everything I have asked of it. Hope they will take that lemon back from you. You seem much more patient that I was.

Every time I see your videos there are different fault codes on the dash. Not one consistent one but many different ones. Your problems seem like it may stem from poor grounds. I have seen many pieces of equipment that I work on with grounds that are attached and then painted over. What happens is the paint will get in between the ground wire and the part it is bolted to causing high resistance between the connection which will cause a lot of different problems that happen randomly and typically will get worse as the piece of equipment ages and heats up. You may want to see if LS has a service bulletin out for this issue. I have seen other manufactures come out with similar bulletins. The fix is to simply remove the grounds clean the connections, remove the paint at the grounding points and reinstall. If you have had the wiring harness replaced but the problem is still there it may be due to the fact that they didn't clean the ground points before reinstalling the new harness and just bolted the ground right back over the painted ground point.

@@edmeeks6066, Older tractors fuel systems are different. With this tractor and most other diesel trucks and tractors, if you run the fuel system dry, which is what would happen if the pickup in the tank was blocked, the only way to get them restarted in to prime the system. Same thing he had to do when he changed the fuel filters on this tractor.
@edmeeks6066
@edmeeks6066 5 лет назад
@@calvinh.8882 I've dealt with a lot of older machines and you do have to Prime them. The older diesels that I've dealt with have the old rotary style injection pump and either have a boost pump that is mechanical on the engine or they have a boost pump that is electrical somewhere in the system prior to the injection pump. So you're either priming them by filling the fuel filter and bleeding injectors or by the mechanical pump or the electrical pump priming them. A rag that obstructing and covering the inlet on the fuel tank would not completely run the system dry but would cut the fuel back enough that the engine would not run. There would still be fuel in the line and if he had an electric boost pump which the he probably does, then that could very well be his problem the boost pump then would go ahead and give the necessary fuel up to the injection pump. His problem may very well be his boost pump intermittently working.

I'm a grain farmer in Indiana. Your videos are very interesting. I really hope you can get the tractor fixed or the bulk of your investment back. My brother (35HP) my Dad (70HP) and myself (45HP) had Three small New Holland utility tractors we used on the farm and Never had a problem over a 10 year period. Five years ago we all traded for Kubota products and are very happy with no issues. The regen on my dads tractor has worked perfect. My 5740 Kubota had 400 hrs when I traded for it and now has 1000 hrs. never had a problem. I think you would be more satisfied with a very nice low hour used pre Regen Tractor from New Holland, Kubota, John Deere or Case. Seems like the LS, Branson, Montana, Kioti, products can have some issues. I'm assume they have all made some good and some bad. The Regen is what's causing most of the problems with modern tractors. I have the same tractor. Like it for all the same reasons you pointed out, PLUS it is so much more heavy duty then others I've looked at, and I'm a Deere guy. But also had the same problems you are having, exactly. Found out a couple things is the grounds at the battery to chassis and another ground under the dash by the fuse block had paint under them. Cleaned just like someone before me said. The stalling was fixed unless it went to long to regen. Then twice to the dealer and it turned out we just were not doing the regen correctly and long enough. If it shuts off or is shut off in the middle of a regen it may fault and needs to continue to regen when started again. Best to get the rpm to 2k and let it run, get an iced tea and a cookie or two and watch it do its thing. Dealer told us about it when we bought it but I didn't think it was so critical. Worst part like most equipment now days is it has to go back to the dealer to have the code reset and clear the memory. Like some before me said, keep the rpm up when using it in lower gears and it will regen less, but let it completely regen. Also there is a switch to cancel regen like when you cannot let it or hit two switches at once to make it regen such as at the end of a day so it can do it hot. Since we have done the correct order of regen, there have been no problems. Sometimes just hit the regen when you don't need it for a cycle and before you shut it off. Hope this helps you a little. Again, I just really like everything else about this tractor.

At 13:45 check the fuel gauge. Looks pretty low. I wouldn't expect that fuel gauge to be too accurate. It seems like the fuel pump resets when the key is turned off. You are out of fuel. On uneven terrain the tractor dies. The fuel shifted in the tank away from the pickup causing the engine to die.

Found a couple comments like this on Tractorbynet: ( F11 code is the sensors on the DPS not reading properly and sending the CPU false readings. Basically there is a patch for the software that must be installed. This will make the sensors communicate properly with the CPU. We have had 1 4100 series LS do this. After downloading the patch and installing it to the tractors CPU we ran it through several forced regens with no issue.....). Another person said they had the same problem and it took a 30 min. computer download to fix it. But that may not be the same problem as you're having. I do like the features on that tractor. Hope you can get it fixed or they cooperate on a replacement. Wish you the best

Maybe give it some throttle! Regens are not a bad thing just cleaning itself out. If you kept a decent rpm while working it, it would keep the exhaust hot enough to burn the carbon off

I have a LS tractor and cant say anything but good about it. Dealer service and was great. Some of the New Holland Tractors are made by LS. Do you research and you will find that LS has a great reputation. This one guys issue could happen to any tractor that you buy no matter who it was made by. All of these compact tractors are made in Korea or Japan. None are made in America including John Deere. Do your research folks. Don't bash because this guy has had a bad experience with his tractor. Wake Up America. LS Tractors are as good as any other tractor on the market.

This one or this model may be the problem, along with incompetent service dept. I purchased a LS XR4145 cab tractor a year ago. It has ran flawless doing a re-gen about every 50 hours. I wanted to stay with a local dealer which left me with choices of LS, Kubota, New Holland, MF & Mahindra. No interest in JD. Mine is cab with 4-in-1 loader and backhoe. I originally wanted a Kubota and priced with same options but had to added for rear remotes, Mahindra had rear remotes. Kubota was $16k more and Mahindra was $14k more. Every mahindra on the lot was rusting and all plastics fading, salesman said we will touch that up. A new tractor sitting in the rain on the lot for a month rusting?

@@4gauge10 - Most people I know with JD tractors and/or mowers complain about the time spent at the shop. If I wanted to pay a ridiculous price for a tractor, it would be a Kubota. I sold previous tractor 5 years ago, was moving to the coast and didn't imagine it would be needed. It was a 1998 New Holland, built like a tank. I worked that tractor hard, sometimes should have used a small track loader or dozer instead. I serviced it, sold it with 2400 hours and it never made a trip to the shop. Didn't go with a NH this time because they are ridiculously priced and (LS) builds the NH compact tractors. So I would have paid well over $10k more for the same tractor with NH emblems instead of LS.

Kubota had and has the same issues with their 3350 model. Lots of online information about it and it still isn't fixed. It isn't a model issue so much as a Tier 4 issue. Running high rpms for an extended period using more fuel in order to create less emissions makes typical government sense.

It appears after watching the video, the seat safety switch may be losing contact when you bounce. That's shutting down the engine. When you are in neutral, you don't have to be in the seat. So... if your mechanic is driving across a smooth parking lot, they may not ever duplicate the problem. The mechanic needs to come to your homestead and see your operating conditions to determine if the safety switch in the seat needs to be replaced or adjusted. Good Luck!

I really like the added no-cost features that tractor has, but I couldn't/wouldn't put up with that constant shutting off when trying to work. You have more patience than me! When you got the tractor I was considering purchasing one as well. However now I'm looking for a good used 1968 Ford 3000! At least they run, no computer and implements are easy to find. I did see a video a couple of days ago where another homestead had the same tractor and actually had not had any issues. I'll see if I can find that video and post a link.

I'm not a tractor mechanic, but big trucks need to be at full normal operating temperature in order for the regeneration to work correctly. I've noticed it's always running on the cool side. At this point, the regen filter is completely clogged and without the computer shut down it will trash pistons. It's been my experience that prolonged low engine speeds will destroy a regen engine in trucks. I would assume it's not good for a tractor period. My suggestion is either get rid of it, or find a illegal delete kit and reprogramer. They should have changed that DPF day one. It was faulty from the factory.

Danny, a couple things that have helped me with my Kioti with the new diesel emissions controls. Use ONLY better filtered on-road diesel. Off-road is just too dirty. Keep the throttle, not the foot feed, at 2000 RPMs at all times to keep the emission filters free of junk. Control speed with gearing/brakes. Creeping an emission controlled tractor will cause what you are experiencing. Be sure to pre-heat fuel with glow plug when cold and let the tractor warm up before driving.

Wow Danny that tractor has a nice shade of blue to it. That’s about all I can say about it. That is Insane that it’s been in the shop that many times and over such a long period of time and it still has the same problems. It seems like the issue would be electrical but maybe the throttle cable is bad in some way and/or the fuel filter needs changed. I do know that on trucks with the new fuel regen this has been a problem with them too. If the regen doesn’t register with the computer it will go into limp mode or can kill the truck. Possibly a sensor as I had a pickup that left me stranded late at night on the side of the highway in the winter. It was a faulty sensor that said the exhaust was too hot and killed the engine. If you haven’t looked those error codes up in the owners manual or tried to google them I would do so. I hope you can get this resolved and if you do and end up keeping this tractor I think I would tell LS to put a new starter on it. That’s a lot of cranking on a tractor that low of hours. Good luck and I’ll see if I can leave LS an email for you.

However, it don't have, A COMPUTER or any of the silly ridicules problems you are having. It will also out work your tractor, and has remained reliable for the past 40 years of it's life. No plastic, no circuit board and no worries, the Frond end loader is stout and will pick up your tractor, maybe. The only reason I mention this is because I hate to see people spend a fortune on these new tractors only to be disappointed and broke done more than they work.

Dan, you have been more patient than any one person should. We pay good money for these work machines, expecting them to work when needed. But technology is not our friend anymore, especially with computers at the heart. Tractors at one time (pre-computer) were reliable, hardworking machines that would last a lifetime, especially if regularly maintained. This LS XR3135 from what I see, appears to be a good tractor mechanically, but has a "Lemon" computer. LS should have replaced the computer after their second visit. If problems reoccurred, a new XR3135 should have been offered, or money back. Now you have two major problems, one, it's unreliable, two, LS or LS dealer is showing they are not a good company, and not willing to stand behind their product. These are work machines, and if don't work when needed, are worthless. Being extremely patient and understanding to this company is not working. Time for action my friend! I wish you all the best.

My goodness, I'm so sorry you are going through this. Perhaps you should start sending them a bill for having used you for a guinea pig or test subject for their equipment. I would have lost it y now!! On a side note, I remember having a lawn tractor that when I believe the oil tilted to a certain degree going over rough terrain it would register that it was low and shut the engine off. Bet it would be a great tractor if all the computer gizmo stuff wasn't there. My thought and prayers are with y'all.

so every time you are having problems with it just dying on you the fuel gauge says your on empty. you may want to add some fuel. I know from experience when the fuel is that low if you are turning or going up or down hill the pickup tube will not be able to pick up fuel.

F11 error from what I found indicates bad ground. I also found that there was a service bulletin to the dealers telling them that paint on ground points causes this problem. They were to scape and remove any paint near specified ground points. Personally I would want my money back and go to another dealer.
